Exchanging/Upgrading AMEX Rewards Universal Orlando Tickets for Annual Pass

I'm going to be in Orlando for one day next week and have 3 day park to park tickets for a trip in January. Was thinking of upgrading 2 of the tickets to an annual pass to be able to visit Universal on that one day. I called guest services but they can't tell me how much the ticket would be valued for (which in my opinion is ridiculous but what can I do about it).

I had been planning to do a day at Disney since I have 2 old tickets from 2001 with one unexpired day left on them. But honestly, I think I'd prefer to do Universal instead. But I don't want to do it without knowing how much it's going to cost me. for each ticket.

It shouldn't be too hard to figure out go to universals website and look at the gate prices for your 3 day park to park tickets and then go to the page that has the AP rates (not sure which one you want Power pass or preferred).

I'm not sure if they'll get Universal's full retail price back. It might depend on what discounted price (if any) they bought their tickets for from UT? I'm assuming that anyone not buying directly from Universal is doing so because it's cheaper than their retail price.

If they get full retail price back and bought them for a discount from UT, then that would be awesome!

I am doing the same thing-using points to cover park tickets for some teenagers-and when I called Universal, she told me no problem, that they were upgradable. We will be there in June.

We just did this in August. We got a ticket from AMEX rewards for my husband and upgraded to an annual pass inside the park. I called Universal beforehand to see if this would be an issue and they assured me everything would be fine. I was still nervous, but everything worked like a charm.

Have fun!
OK, I just redeemed AmEx points for 3 tickets. All 3 tickets have my name. There was nowhere to put the name of anyone else. They have a barcode and it's supposed to be the actual ticket. Will my DH, DS, and DD be able to go through the gates, or do we have to exchange the tickets for a ticket with *their* names on it? TIA!

I am dealing with the same issue regarding AmEx reward tickets. I did speak to Universal and was told, as long as you have a drivers license or photo ID you will be fine. If you go to the ticket gate first, they can change the names on the tickets for you. She could not tell me what the value of my ticket would be without scanning them. I was told to go to guest services in the park to have my tickets scanned for value and see about the upgrade. Hope that helps a little. We will be visiting in July and I will post my experience with trying to upgrade.

I wound up calling on Friday, and I received the same response you did, so I feel a little more reassured. I was told that if I go to Guest Services outside the park with my ID, they should be able to put my kids' and DH's name on the tickets. My plan is to do that first, then go through the gates so they tickets can be bridged, and (hopefully) upgrade later that day. I'm going in a couple of weeks, so I'll post my experience.

I am a complete newbie when it comes to traveling to Orlando. I’m currently trying to use American Express membership reward points to purchase tickets to Universal in Orlando. The issue that has come up is that the primary account holder is my mother, we share the same last name and address, and her name will be the one that is printed on the tickets/vouchers My question is whether the tickets come as actual tickets? Or as a voucher? That was the question that couldn’t be answer to me by either American Express or universal! I will be traveling from Texas so my mom won’t be with me and I’m trying to make sure that I’m going to be able to get into the park!

It's been over a year, so my memory is a little fuzzy, but I think we got an e-certificate from "working advantage" that I was able to exchange at the resort's ticket desk (Hard Rock) for an actual ticket with my DH's, DS's and DD's names. This was for DH, DS, and DD. I had purchased an AP online so I could book an AP rate. I think that as long as you have this e-Cert printed, you will not have any problems. I don't know if there is now a place to enter their name. The problem that I had a year ago is that there was nowhere to enter their names and all 3 tickets had my name in them.

that’s my main concern, that the certificate will my mother’s name on it and i won’t be able to swap it out.....i’m very nervous to just try without hearing from someone that’s at least been successful in this predicament before! thank you for the vote of confidence though!
