Peppermint. Any other flavor would be like eating M&Ms and finding out they are Skittles.

How prepared are you for Christmas, Halloween, and the other upcoming holidays? Do you already have certain plans?

For Halloween i already have the candy/gum and will decorate Oct. 1st.

For Christmas I am not ready yet, but should have my shopping done soon and i always decorate Thanksgiving night.

We'll pull out the yard decorations and such a week or so before Halloween and I'll buy all the candy the weekend before.

Thanksgiving every year is spent in Cardwell, Missouri. It is essentially a family reunion every year at a community hall. Someone provides a few turkeys and hams and everyone brings some sort of dish. I never have to do the big Thanksgiving dinner. A little travel, visit, eat everyone's food, and back home.

I'm already planning what gifts to buy the girls this year. Now that they're older they get one "big" gift and gift cards and money. It's not like it used to be with the big tree surrounded by presents. We'll do Christmas dinner as usual and enjoy being home together.

With the kids grown, we don't do Halloween since we don't get trick or treaters.

We usually eat Thanksgiving Dinner at my parent's house with me cooking the turkey at home, cutting it up and taking it over there.

For Christmas, I've gotten to where I don't buy anything until December.

For Halloween, my kids have their costumes, and I have something to add into the bags that my son will pass out to his classmates.

For Thanksgiving no plans yet, but I think we will have an early dinner.

For Christmas, been shopping all year long, and getting alot of things done for Christmas swaps/advent swaps :santa:.

Christmas...not at all! I try to be done shopping by Thanksgiving, tho. STill need to finish the boys' xstitched stockings.

Halloween...youngest DS might still go Trick or Treating, and we live in a development, so we get lots of kids. But I won't do anything til a few weeks before. This is the first year in a long time that we won't be at WDW in Oct so I'll get to decorate!

THanksgiving...usually here but nothing I can plan yet.

So my daughter is going to get braces. Have you had them or know anyone that did? If so, any recommendations on things she is not able to eat other then chewing gum, and sticky candies... any care suggestions? I am sure her ortho. will give us info. as well.

Never had them and don't know anybody that has/had them either.

Carol had them in middle school. It was hard for her to play her clarinet sometimes. I think anything sticky would be a no-no, including fruit rollups and stuff like that. Though I remember Carol chewing gum sometimes. There is a brand that you can chew, maybe Freedent?, I'm not sure but it doesn't stick like the others do.

Hurting will be the biggest deal plus any stray pieces of wire that ends up sticking out. Make sure Shayla tells them that there is something poking her or you will be making an unplanned trip to the orthodontist.

One thing fun will be the different colored rubber bands. Carol had fun choosing colors for different times of the year. Some aren't very complimentary though. ;)

All 3 boys have had/have braces. Really crunchy things like pretzels and popcorn were on our list, as well as sticky things. They did eat them, tho. :rolleyes1

They really hurt at first and when they tighten them, so she'll probably want some soft foods for a day or two when she gets them on.

Care--flossing is hard and I got them sonic toothbrushes to try to give them as much help as possible.

DD Heather has them and hoping to get them off this year. She just does exactly what the ortho told her to do. She pays particular attention to the area around the gums and uses these little brushes in between the braces, and brushes really well. She doesn't want scarring on her teeth. The ortho will show you that.

Thank you for all the tips everyone. I don't want to scare her, but did give her the tips that you folks gave. Worried about her pain :( and if anyone will be mean to her about having them.
