Recycle: Bottles, cans, plastics, and green waste. We have a food recycling program in our city, but found that the local pests kept getting into the container so I stopped it for a while, but may try it again in the next couple of weeks.
Reuse: I've got some really great tote bags that are made of recycled banners that I got from the city works yard. They compact down to nothing and I use both of them all the time, and it cuts down on the amount of plastic bags I bring home. In fact I use them so much that it's cut it back by 75 to 80%.
Reduce: We use Energystar appliances when replacing old ones, our washer uses a 1/4 water of what a normal one would use. I am a light Nazi and am constantly turning off lights. We are on a water meter, and are careful about our water usage, despite the kids being water hogs. Energy efficient light bulbs. And try to keep the amount of chemicals used in the house to a minimum. We don't use pesticides, in fact they are banned in our city for lawns.
