Excessive Room Checks?

It really shouldn’t. The security check is complete theater, conducted by housekeepers and rent a cops, not actual law enforcement, that’s why other hotels don’t bother with it to this rigid degree. Expensive with little payoff. They make sure a room is entered every couple days and go about their business. The absolute only thing this accomplishes is asset protection for Disney. If they see you trashed the room they can kick you out sooner to minimize some of the damage.
I think the "theatrical" act deters certain criminals from staying at Disney. People with things to hide are less likely to stay at hotels with strict daily checks. It's a good prevention measure.

Is it though? If you have drugs they could be stashed somewhere they'd never find it. Firearms? Could be in drawers or suitcases. They peek around but are they really accomplishing what they are trying to do? A better way would be to enact something similar to cruise terminals or airport security upon check-in to the resort. Walk through detectors and scan the luggage on arrival. Stop this charade of "security" room-checks.

Just because one thinks it's a charade is it? Unless someone can prove either way it works or doesn't(not someones opinon), the rule is they check the room.

We don't know what clues, signs, etc..they're looking for.

Please don't see this as blaming the victim, but what did you do differently to incur such excessive security room checks? Everyone is saying that Disney is short on staff, yet they were spending a lot of manpower on you.

@lowlight

I do care and so do others that's why several of us have offered workable solutions to avoid anyone barging into a guest's room while they are showering or during other intimate activities. I even shared how we deal with the Security lock when other members of our party are out of the room.

Where you went wrong was telling everyone else they shouldn't care either, and should just latch the door.

Oops a bad assumption on your part concerning me being wrong or telling anyone that they should not care.

You might want to try a little self reflection before making sweeping assumptions and attributing views concerning another member. I never went wrong and you may be miserable about that. We just have different views on ways to manage something that we can't control.

A little something known as issue mitigation. We can't expect Disney to customize their room visits to our individual situational schedules when they are managing 30,000+ rooms.

Dave

No Disney resort has 4 groups stopping by once or 4 times per day.

I would take this new poster's comments with a big grain of salt.

Dave

I am still stuck on why guests can't use the Security locks during intimate activities like showering. That's why I have a hard time with these Day 1 posters starting yet another Room Check thread with claims of literally about 4 visits per day...

Dave

Then you should expect mousekeeping or a room check. Seriously you can't lock the door for 10-15 minutes for your shower? We do it all the time. If members of the party are out they just wait the short time until they get a text saying the room is unlocked.

Dave

What would you care if you are in the shower. However if you or your children are napping that's a major impact. But as a reminder the privacy latch you mention is really a security latch to prevent anyone from walking in on an occupied room.

Dave

That's correct I would not care since they could not walk into the room or the shower as has been posted a number of times in this tread.

This post of yours was aggressive and you made it a personal attack even as you rapped it in fake sugar and spice.

Ok..have a good one Dave006.

I switched my room on check-in at Beach Club from a Juliet balcony to a patio since it was my 50th Birthday. Oh how sneaky of me!

I don't know if we've been lucky but in the seven plus stays since they've enacted the policy, we've never had more than a visit a day. I understand it can be an annoying, but I've been in the travel industry for over twenty years and am saddened to report that yes, we've come to this. I have several coworkers who are based in Vegas, many are still traumatized and "waiting" for it to happen again. My advice, deadbolt your door the second you enter your room, regardless of where you are staying. If you are showering and your door is opened the deadbolt will save a lot of embarrassment with both parties. Giving you ample time to get presentable. Trust me, most of the "cast members" are as uncomfortable with the room checks as are you. Until this crazy world does a complete turnaround safety for everyone is a top priority. I will happily take a room check as added security for my family. I have not always liked the changes at WDW but this is one I welcome. It's one reason we continue to pay the inflated prices and visit. I like the sense of security I feel when I drive through the "magic" gates. Yes, bad things do happen at Disney but considering the number of rooms rented on a daily basis and the number of people entering the parks they do a pretty good job of keeping it safe.
I agree with all of this and feel Disney made me a better traveler because of it. Keep my room organized so they can freshen it up, don't forget to take room occupied sign off when we leave... When it comes to security though, I think they need to get tougher about non resort guests roaming the pools and lingering in the monorail resorts. It has started to make me nervous as a guest walking around with my kids at the pool etc.

I recently had a learning experience in a grocery store parking lot.
As I walked from my car to the entrance a big guy got out of his big 4 door SUV and exclaimed He was just thinking about me and gave me a big hug. Fortunately for me the Grocery attendant was just approaching to collect the shopping carts … I grabbed one of the carts and followed him into the store!
I talked to manager the next day & told the person He was probably my hero to thank him .
They want me to file a police report but zi do not want my address or phone number on public record …
I also recently went to MCO to make sure my teenage relative traveling alone made it thru security.,, This is inside every bathroom stall : I have learned that hand signal
Human Trafficking is real & real serious .
I will never park far from entrance of any store ever again !

Which means they are likely not looking for those things. They are looking for things that are out in the open, that are in bathrooms ... and sometimes they are looking at the guests.

I was thinking the same thing @focusondisney what Gift Card are you getting?

Dave

For a gift card under the door, I’ll shower with the curtain, door, and windows open.

I don’t know my price exactly, but it’s less than that.

I understand a daily room check but we just got back from a stay at Beach Club and it was SUPER annoying. First knock after being in the room 15 minutes. "Housekeeping need any more toilet paper, soap, towels?" No thank you. Second knock... Timeshare salesman for Riviera. "Hi I want to give you a Free Gift". Here is a special gift just for you a Riviera keepsake and information on how you can make a magical stay year after year". No thank you. Security "Room Check, may I come in". It was literally about 4 times per day and just nuts. Like I said I know a few bad apples have spoiled it for everyone but there has got to be a better way. We did a split stay and while we were at Boulder Ridge DVC we were trying to stay out of the heat and just go out in the late afternoons. Security would come completely into the room and spoke to us/questioned our plans etc. I would go through finger printing, a lie detector test and a full background check vs having to be disturbed on my vacation like this. My Husband and I are now discussing staying off property to have a less intrustive experience at our resort.
My sister had a weird experience this past week at the Grand Floridian too. She switched rooms one day and they knocked to do a room check like an he after she got the new room. She basically told them no and that she had just gotten to the room and they did eventually leave without really entering but I agree there has to be a better way.

Lol...wow we would never lock our family members/roommates out of our rooms while we shower. - Also NO one in my family takes a 10-15 min. start to finish shower. Certainly glad you found simething that works for you, however it is not reasonable to expect this to be the "answer" for everyone else.

So it seems that changing rooms after going to your initially assigned room may be a triggering factor. Makes sense given that you entered one room and then changed to enter another. I'd imagine that the room you entered is also thoroughly searched (though you'd never know that part).

Even better reason to visit the front desk (which yes, you CAN do even if you've done online check in) to see if your assigned room meets your standards.
