Excessive Room Checks?

Oh yea that did not work out so well since many guests forgot to remove the DND sign to get their room cleaned and then complained when their room was not serviced all day and mousekeeping had left for the day. And it made checkout day very confusing since many guests left with the DND sign still on the door when they left the resort. So guess what door knocking was required as new guests wanted their room ready early.

I enjoyed the old style DND signs that had a Please clean message on the reverse side. However even that was ruined by children that ran the hallways turning the room hang tags around or swapping on different doors.

There is simply no perfect solution that meets all needs or requirements.

What would you care if you are in the shower. However if you or your children are napping that's a major impact. But as a reminder the privacy latch you mention is really a security latch to prevent anyone from walking in on an occupied room.

This only works great with trained Guests. How many guests forget this handy feature. So does RCL just not clean or service the room if the Magnet is not on the door? I don't think so.

Dave you have asserted your position on this post as Chief Disney Know-it-All.
No one is personally challenging you here.
Yet you consistently have to go point by point on why we are all wrong and you are always right.
As they say in the South - BLESS YOUR HEART!
Peace fellow Disney Brother. Please. PEACE! :)

I am not dissing Disney here or challenging their current room check Security policy.
Simply stating what happened to us on a recent vacation.
I'm sure they can come up with a cool solution that will work mostly for everyone.
I'm sure they could make it as simple as when your magic band leaves the room they assume you are gone.
Who knows. Maybe they will get a solution together that will make everyone happy.

Are you saying that you wouldn't care if you were in the shower and someone is pounding on the door with their metal thing-y making an echoing racket? Plus, they push the door open as far as it will go, so how are you supposed to even get out of the shower to dress in private? And yes, we have been awoken from a nap by them banging on the door *and* I have had a shower interrupted. Even if you use the latch, it's a PITB.

For me, the most frustrating thing is that Disney has massive amounts of data on everyone that has ever visited. They know if a villa is occupied by a family who bought into DVC 10 years ago, have visited 15 times since then, and they can see all of their park tickets and dining reservations. And we all know, and Disney knows too, that doing a “security check” of this room, hammering on the door while the kids are napping or Grandma is showering, is a complete and utter waste of time. And yet they do it anyway. Baffling.

It's not the room-checks per say. It's the fact that we were disturbed 4 times in one day starting at Beach Club Resort. Then full walk-in security checks each day of our stay at Boulder Ridge DVC. Read my email again, Someone going door-to-door to sell DVC's? Is that really neccessary? Housekeeping and a security check coming right when we had *just* checked into our room and were starting our vacation. *This is my final post responding to people who say it's no big deal, what's the big deal etc. Tell that to people who have been walked in on while changing, while in the shower etc. I have never found this to happen at other resorts outside the Disney bubble- EVER!
I don't think they are going door to door to "sell" Disney. I think what happened is that the room was supposed to be empty, but you said you did a room change. The person was probably putting the Riviera posters in empty or currently unoccupied rooms, as others have said they often receive them in the room. They always knock first to make sure the room is empty (so they were following policy). And you probably surprised the CM by opening the door, I bet he/she did not expect you to do that. So, in the situation, they handed you the poster instead of leaving it in the room. Again, as others have said, if showering or changing, flip the latch so no one can enter.

That's correct I would not care since they could not walk into the room or the shower as has been posted a number of times in this tread.

Now you’re giving Disney’s IT & resort management way too much credit. Yes the computer system somewhere has all that information. I would bet serious money the poor front line sometimes security/ sometimes housekeeping CM who’s paid to do security checks never gets that info. No way Disney IT has it together enough to flag reservations as requiring differing levels of security checks.

Actually no you don't know my position or opinion. This is a general discussion. I never once said anyone was or is wrong by sharing a comment on this public thread.

This post of yours was aggressive and you made it a personal attack even as you rapped it in fake sugar and spice. That's how topics on this subject often end.
So have a Great Disney Day... :charac2:

Hadn’t thought of that, but you’re probably right. Great theory

MANY years ago I worked front desk (where I started) at a Disney resort. We would put cards or other small amenities in Guest rooms, hopefully prior to their arrival. But sometimes, a Guest would check in while we were doing the deliveries, so it can happen. We had to knock at least twice, and loudly, before entering any room. Sometimes we were ignored, that was always interesting....

So DVC salespeople have a universal key to access Guest Rooms before guests check in??
They can! They would sign out a master key, all key card entries are electronically tracked. So if anything ever came up, security can run a lock interrogation to see what key was used to enter the room (or MB). How do you think housekeepers or maintenance enter rooms?

I knew housekeepers and maintenance can enter rooms with a master key. I did not know that DVC salespeople can enter the rooms! That's a surprise to me!

Regarding the daily room checks, on the threads I have seen child trafficking/guns/illegal activity is mentioned often. Hadn't really considered those - I assumed these checks have become standard across the industry because of the overdose crisis.

In other words, I just assumed they're making sure, to but it bluntly, no one has passed away.

What say you Dave, do you agree to take all of our room checks? Next time they knock, I'm gonna tell em to put this one on your tab.
I'm with Dave, you can add them to my tab. I could care less if they knock on my door.

OK. My hope is that you can take that one for the team in the future.
Sure we have had no issues as we are not in the room 11 AM - 5 PM easy peasy.

Sure since we know that Disney can locate me after all they have my Disney related history since 1972 (oh wait that was paper...) but with the upcoming MB+ Satellite AI model they will be able to trace all of us from Space.

This will allow housekeeping, maintenance, security, and last but not least the ever present DVC Salesperson that is not really a DVC Salesperson but a CM Runner delivering all those legacy free gifts to resort rooms
Have a magical Disney Day... :charac2::offtopic:
