Everybody Wants to be a WISH Cat (or dog, or goose, etc...) - October 2016 WISH Challenge

What do you do to feel like a swan on days you feel more like a goose?

I'm really bad about wallowing when I feel like a goose. So I usually pull up my progress pics and look at where I started. The unhappy, miserable look on my face. And I scroll through and slowly see my expression change to see how happy I was. And even though I'm a few pounds heavier now than my last progression picture it helps to put it in perspective that I've been much bigger and I'll get back down again.

-----

Last night I took a rest day and it just KILLED my productivity! I ended up making not great eating choices (I was starving all day long) and laying on the couch til bedtime. So clearly working out right after work is the key to me being an effective adult human lol. Unfortunately, tonight I have choir so I don't have time to work out. But I also don't have time to eat lots of bad food. Anything to keep me occupied! And then it'll be Friday and I'll be able to work out and get right back on track.

The QOTD was important for me because I weighed myself this morning (bad idea after a bad night) and even though when I looked in the mirror I felt good when I saw that number it tanked my mood. So this QOTD was a good reminder to keep on and to look at those progress pics!

I am pretty good at thinking I look different when I am not looking in a mirror or a picture. I tend to think most of the time that I am thin and at least taller then I am. So I guess I am good at imagining I look good. On the days that no matter what I do I feel like a goose there is not much I can do. It is usually a bad day to start with. Like today. I woke up in a bad mood, have a headache and just in general don't feel good. I am pretty sure I picked up a cold from the kids. It is not bad but bad enough to feel blah.

**********

Yesterday I did not get my steps in but I was only like 1,000 off but I stayed with in my calories. I spent most of yesterday and today reading the forum on the boards about the hurricane and watching the weather. I am far way up her in Ohio but very concerned on family and friends in the path. All are in South Carolina or Georgia. I also tend to get caught up with this stuff and want to know what is happening. I tend worry about this stuff.

To all of you in the area please stay safe. I will be keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. Please update us when you can on how you are doing.

I couldn't start my weight loss until I did something about how I feel. I bought clothes that fit well. It seem silly to buy nice clothes when you plan to loose but you have to feel good right now so you are able to believe in yourself. I got my hair done. I said I will use basic makeup daily. I felt little better and it made it possible for me to get the "I can do this" feeling

Act confident and you will feel confident

Can I join? I was a member of one of these threads a long time ago and I enjoyed it!

Welcome back!! Of course you are welcome! Nice to have you joining us again!!

This hurricane looks so scary! They are not common around and it appears Florida governor and the state is well geared to deal with it, and are not taking any chances. I would worry too, but if he does what he is asked to do (evacuate when told to) he will be ok.
I wonder why would people not leave now for few days? Unless they are unable to due to lack of transport/funds but they should be able to get to shelter today. My thoughts are with all that are along Matthews path, in Us and not.

I have a friend in South Carolina who hasn't evacuated because they have three large dogs and were concerned about finding a place to evacuate to that would allow the dogs. They chose to "shelter-in-place" instead.... but I am worried about her!

October 6 - Question of the Day

Although O'Malley is being sarcastic with the Gabble's, they are flattered nonetheless.
They certainly could see themselves as swans!

The way you see yourself is also a powerful tool in your journey to a healthier you.

Some studies have even suggested the more you accept yourself the way you are, the more likely you are to lose weight!

But life is life -- sometimes we feel like a goose and sometimes we feel like a swan.

What do you do to feel like a swan on days you feel more like a goose?

Agree with others who have said.... take care of OTHER things... like hair, make-up, nails... and TRYING to find clothing that you feel "pretty" in (although at my highest weight that was pretty much impossible). Getting in a good workout helps me too.... because I KNOW that I am working toward actually BEING that swan! BTW, fabulous question!!!!

Or as I call it "Fake it til you make it!" :D

Hey friends.... I "volunteered" to cover the office during lunch and was rewarded with quiet phones so here I am! Beautiful day here, but I cannot help thinking about all of you in the line of the hurricane, or those whose vacation plans are trashed due to the parks and airports closing! >:(

DH is due home from Atlanta tomorrow, but as he is flying NORTH and out of the hurricane zone, I have a feeling it won't be a problem.

Gotta dash!............P

In my minds eye I am a swan when in reality I am more goose like, so this struggle is real every time I see myself in the mirror, or even more painfully in a photo. But it isn't just weight, it's age as well. What do I do about it? Well, hmmm... I've often joked about being on the eternal search for the lipstick that will change my life. And in the past I would probably go buy a new lipstick or other cosmetic, thinking something new will lead me back to swan-ville, but I really haven't bought very many cosmetics lately. I'm really struggling with what I do now to shift my mindset... I'm going to have to ponder on this a while longer.

Hope all in the path of the hurricane are battened down and stay safe. Yesterday I read that Disney was evacuating FT Wilderness campground... pretty scary stuff. You are all in my thoughts.

Last night I realized that the week was running out and I had better get going on my at-home-Pilates if I was going to make goal of doing it 4 times a week. In class we warm up by working on our feet, so I started that way last night and what a difference, I feel like I have new feet this morning. I have always slept better the days I have an evening class, and I found that to be true last night as well, even after doing just a couple simple things. This'll inspire me to do more than just 4 days.

I have team I work with based in Tampa plus few friends that relocated but they seem to be out of the danger right now. However I have grown to love how kind any Floridan people I met on my holidays and I can't think of anything else today at all. I hope your friend is safe, and her dogs too.

it's a worry

Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers guys!

The latest storm models show that we are getting a category 4 up here so we are at least heading to my in-laws, they are a little further inland. We might go to my aunts in western South Carolina, since all of the hotels are booked for hundreds of miles, if they order us to evacuate. I have been busy trying to get all of our important papers together and the kids packed. Now I am going to work on getting anything that I can't replace put away.

Stay safe @Lady Marie!!!

To everyone in storm areas (@Lady Marie and @MommaoffherRocker and others!) - be safe. We're thinking of you :)

What do you do to feel like a swan on days you feel more like a goose?

It's been more goose days than swan days most recently. But i take a step back and try to throw on something that makes me feel more 'swan-like' and some make up. It's mostly just in my head really... but it can be hard to break that thought process.

Great question! I really like your reply @HappyGrape - I think I will incorporate some of it by next week. I've never been a big makeup wearer, but I think I'm going to go get some this weekend and start back with wearing just a bit. I've been feeling tired and frumpy lately and I do think this might help! A simple idea to at least try anyway!

Also, as strange as this may sound, I find myself feeling more like a swan when other things in my life aare "clicking" along with my eating plan working out. Last night I spend about an hour working on DS's room with him to clear out some stuff that just didn't need to be in there any longer. Seeing the big box of stuff to take to charity makes me feel better about his room, good about helping someone else hopefully and just better in general. DH would love it if I'd do a small project every day! Our house isn't terribly cluttered, but it can always use some "help"! It feels overwhelming sometimes, but I just have to remember that every little bit helps.

This is a really big idea HappyGrape... thanks for sharing it. I love fashion but end up settling for the cheapest stuff, that I don't love, so I'm at least not naked. It's such a challenge to find what I like in my size that I'm always settling and thinking "when I lose the weight I'll get really nice stuff". But part of the slow-clothing mindset is to be thoughtful and not to settle and to not buy junk, so that's helping me to shift and think about doing the best for where/who I am right now.

ski_mom... this is also a good point: feeling like a goose can be tied to non-physical things going on in our lives. I sure do feel better about myself when there aren't dirty dishes in the sink or vacuuming that needs to be done.

Hi all. We've settled into my in laws house and nothing much is going on yet so I'm getting while the getting is good with the power haha

The storm projection shows it's moving a little east so possibly less of an impact for us. The hardest part of all of this is just not knowing if or when it will be bad.

That's great you have those pictures as resources for inspiration!

Yes love it! Mind over matter to help it to be reality

Or as I call it "Fake it til you make it!" :D

Lol! I was thinking the exact thing!

Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers guys!

Stay safe @Lady Marie!!!

You too!

That doesn't sound strange at all. Some say that our minds manifest themselves in our living spaces. If everything is clicking with your eating and working out and your home, then that is definitely grounds for feeling swan like :-)

LadyMarie, sorry I didn't mention you in my thinking for people impacted by the storm comments! Of course you are also in my thoughts, stay safe!

@Lady Marie and @MommaoffherRocker I hope you will be safe and that your houses will get through this without any damage!!

Over the last years I have been a regular on the cruise boards here on the DIS (it is funny how over time my hang outs here on the DIS changed form Theme Parks to Resorts to Transportation to Trip Reports and now Cruise Line...). The hurricane has been such a big topic there because of the ships being affected. There are people on the Dream and Fantasy right now that have their cars parked in that parking structure directly at the port. If a category 4 storm goes through Port Canaveral, you do not want to think what might happen to their cars. And there is nothing they can do about it...

My BF is at least in relative safety, nowhere near the coast. But he was supposed to drive to his mother tomorrow and that is not going to work and she is now on her own (in a safer part of Florida as well). All really upsetting. It really puts my weather unhappiness totally into place.

Just finished a run and feel great! This doing some kind of activity every day (with one rest day) is really good for me. And I feel that being forced to do different things to not put too much stress on my foot really is good for me, too!

QOTD:
I think @HappyGrape is totally right. I am doing the worst with losing weight and staying active when I don't take care of myself. Just taking the time to make sure that my hair looks good and that there is some make up makes such a difference. I am very basic with make up, just foundation (still am so upset that Benefit discontinued my favorite foundation!!!), mascara, a little bit of powder rouge and a lip gloss and it makes such a difference!

@Oneanne I totally hear you on not wanting to spend money on nice clothes when you are at a size that you don't want to stay at. But have you considered of maybe just getting things changed once you have lost the weight? There ought to be places that can make the necessary alterations. I am not talking about a whole wardrobe, but maybe one or two really nice things?

What do you do to feel like a swan on days you feel more like a goose?

Yes definitely more goose these days - same as many of you I colour my hair, style it, throw on some make-up!

Jumping in again to quickly say hello and answer the question. I will be near a computer until about noon today. We are closing down and boarding up our store at that time. Yeesh! This is crazy down here y'all! I got some perspective last night as I walked around the house packing away things that are irreplaceable just in case. We are a few blacks off of the evacuation zone, but our windows are from when our building was built (during the 1970's), and we are up high, so I don't 100% trust that they won't bust and leave me with a soaked mess to come back too..... unlikely, but I'd rather be safe than sorry! We are going out to DH's parents who have impact windows to ride out the storm.

I just don't know where I would start I would have boxes and boxes of photos with me!

So I guess I am good at imagining I look good

I tend to do this too - then reality hits me.

haha - you and me both!

Hi all - I just did my first paddling morning! the water was so flat - it was fantastic and I am now feeling full of energy! I have to dash I have an early meeting. But to all of my friends in the path of the storm STAY SAFE!!! :grouphug:

But part of the slow-clothing mindset is to be thoughtful and not to settle and to not buy junk, so that's helping me to shift and think about doing the best for where/who I am right now.

I feel you on this one - I went through 2 wardrobe overhauls in the course of my weight loss.
If you're open to Lularoe, you can buy One Size leggings that'll fit you from a 2-12 or Tall/Curvey from 14-22 (don't know what size you are), but that way they'll work with you as you shrink. I find their skirts are generous and I enjoy the fact that the clothing doesn't hang weird...

So we are lucky in that it's not going to be nearly as bad as we were all anticipating. I thought we would have lost power by now but here I am!

Hoping it stays like this and just brushes the coast and doesn't affect the parks too much.

Thoughts and prayers for those of you still anticipating the storm up your way!

LadyMarie, sorry I didn't mention you in my thinking for people impacted by the storm comments! Of course you are also in my thoughts, stay safe!

No biggie! I know it's hard to keep track of where we are all from!

My BF is at least in relative safety, nowhere near the coast. But he was supposed to drive to his mother tomorrow and that is not going to work and she is now on her own (in a safer part of Florida as well). All really upsetting. It really puts my weather unhappiness totally into place.

Glad to hear your BF is not looking ata direct hit!

I just don't know where I would start I would have boxes and boxes of photos with me!

Seriously that's what I did-threw all the photos that I don't have in digital format somewhere in a big suitcase that I've been taking with me. I feel a little foolish now, but I couldn't have known last night so better to have them and not need them!

I second the Lularoe leggings. So soft and crazy how one pair can fit such a range of sizes!

Fairly off-topic, I'll admit, and absolutely not intended to be a shop plug - but I just wanted to let everyone know that this weekend, a group of 65 Disney-inspired small shops are all donating 15% of their total profits from October 7 at 12:01am to October 9 at 11:59pm to the American Red Cross to aide those impacted by Hurricane Matthew. If anyone is interested in seeing some of the shops participating, all of them are tagged in the "We're Fundraising for Hurricane Relief" photo on my Instagram account - @craftiest_place_on_earth. On Monday we'll announce the grand total we're donating between the 65 of us.

Well that is some good news :-) I saw that they closed WDW and cancelled one of the Halloween Party Nights but better to keep staff and visitors safe.
