Every Wish That We Put Into Motion.... (comments welcome!)

The asics were a bust. I need a half-size bigger, and the volume (vertically) in the toe box is too low. As a "toe lifter" they just aren't going to work, even with a larger size.

I'm going to head into Fleet Feet tomorrow to get fitted (again) and try on everything they suggest. When I originally got fitted they had me try on some Ghosts and I very, very much did not like them. But it's been 4 years now, and I have to figure something out. I'm a little intrigued by the glycerine max, and I might be able to get them on a discount from *a source.* Of course, I have to drive to the further-away and significantly less convenient location to try that shoe on and I do NOT care for the color they carry in the store, and I'll end up having to order them anyway if they even work.

I have very wide feet, high arches, and a high instep (the top of my foot running up to my ankle is very "tall"). I also tend to lift up the big toe of each foot when I run for some reason. But I clench up my other toes.

Anyway, don't know if that's similar. I wear Brooks Adrenalines. Previously Ghosts, but I felt like my knees preferred the "stability" shoe. I also tend to wear my shoes pretty loose compared to what a lot of people like, probably because of the high instep issue - I always feel like shoes are too tight up there, so I just don't tie them tightly.

I have a pair of glycerine 22s being delivered tomorrow. I tried on about 4 different shoes at fleet feet today, and those felt the best. There were also a pair of Karhu(?) that felt pretty good but I liked the squish of the glycerines more. We will see if they work out.

He semi-jokingly mentioned that I could get expedited shipping for $5 and I declined it because I’ve always gotten my shoes within 3 days. My order was confirmed at 11:46, labeled for shipping/ready for pickup at 1:47, and I got a FedEx notice they they’ll be delivered tomorrow at 3:32 this afternoon. So fingers crossed they don’t make everything hurt.

New shoes were……different. Aside from the whole issue where I can’t lace them with a heel lock, they feel a lot different underfoot than I’m used to. Not good different. Not bad different. Just odd different.

I will be sending my pcp a note tomorrow asking for a PT referral for the ongoing issue with my Achilles. I tried to go for 4mi today and cut it back from 20/30 to walk-only at about the 2mi mark again because it just hurt too much. It’s so frustrating, and I’m sure I’ll end up spending $$$$ to do calf raises.

Well that was a pleasant surprise! Called to schedule with the PT's office this morning and they're able to get me in tomorrow morning! I'll have to be on top of things with DD and have her at school as soon as they open to let kids in for the day to make it on time, but this sure beats the "we can get you in next month" that I was expecting!

PT confirmed my suspicions and said Achilles tendinopathy. He scraped my calves (OUCH!) and had me do calf raises on a step (*sigh*) and I'm supposed to do 3 sets of 15 1-2x a day. I go back next week and it looks like I'm scheduled 2x a week for a little bit. I asked about running, after making it clear that *running* is the thing that really aggravates things the most and he said something to the effect of "will you keep running if it hurts?" No. I'll run until it hurts and then walk. "OK, well maybe don't do that then and just do a lot of walking instead. You'll still keep your endurance, but hopefully not stretch out how long we have to treat it."

So there we have it. No running for a little big. That makes me a little nervous on the shoe side of things since most shoes I can walk in without issue, but running causes various aches in my legs in most of the new/different shoe models I've tried. So fingers crossed PT helps clear some of that up.
