We leave for Disney World on a Saturday with Sunwing, out of Toront's Pearson International Airport. Our flight leaves at 6:30am. We have heard that Sunwing closes it's counters an hour and a half before the departure time. Does anyone know if this is true? What time do you suggest we get to the airport for?

Thank you, Suzanne

We just returned this past sunday flew sunwing. Great airline. We did arrive at the airport 2 hours before our flight and still had plenty of time. I don't know about the gate closer thing but don't leave yourself to tight for time the last thing you want is to feel is rushed on your vacation. Have a great trip I know we did !!!

How did you find SunWing compared to Air Canada or WestJet? I know that you get a breakfast and a lunch on the way back. With the early flight time, you are at Disney before the other airlines have left Toronto.

Thank you Delta! Did your flight leave at 6:30am? My DSIL who is travelling with us, just got her ticket info in the mail today. First thing she did was call me to say it says be there three hours ahead of time! Since the flight leaves at 6:30am, that is 3:30am!! That seems way too early for me. Does that make sense to you? DId your ticket information say that time frame on it?

Thanks for your help! Oh, how was the food??

2 hours is more than enough time

My understanding of international flights is that you MUST be at the gate at least 2 hours prior to departure. With that in mind, the closing of the counter makes perfect sense.

Do remember at Pearson customs doesn't open until 5:15 5:30, so there is a huge lineup at customs prior to it opening. It does go quite quickly, but be ready for it even if are there at 3:30.

Thanks for the tip on customs. I guess I just thought it was open a lot earlier than that! Now I can see why you need to be early.

Do you clear U.S. customs at Pearson when you fly with Sunwing?
How roomy are the seats? Any better than Air Transat or Skyservice?

For flying to MCO you will pre-clear US customs in Toronto and when you get to MCO you don't have to worry about re-clearing.

Yes, US customs opens @ 05:30 here in Pearson but usually there isn't much delay. Most of the flights don't leave till 08:00 with very minimal flights leaving between 06:30 and 07:00 due to noise abatement procedures prior to 06:30.

If you are going during a weekday you will have a bit of business travellers but they clear very quickly as most don't have checked baggage and go right through. If you have lots of baggage you may be delayed a bit as you have to carry this through all the way to screening. So make sure you have all your documents ready and all your bags packed neatly incase you get pulled into secondary and you should be fine. I would recommend arriving three hours prior to flight time as this will allow you to check-in, grab breakfast, clear customs, get to the gate and you don't have to rush and can remain calm.

I have flown alot of airlines and sunwing is no better or worse then any other. My 9 year old hated the food but on such a short flight it didn't really matter. The did serve westerns on the way down and sandwiches on our way home since it was closer to lunch when we flying home the food to me was just okay.

Evening everyone. I sent an email to Sunwing about the check in time and this was their answer,

"Please be advised that the check in counter opens 3 hours before departure and closes 1 hour before departure.

Failure to arrive at the check in counter on time, will result in being denied boarding."

So, that means the check in counter closes at 5:30am so we need to be there between 4am and 4:30am. That should be enough.

Thanks for everyone's input. I appreciate it. Have a great night!
