every been reported on ebay?

i have to laugh at it because it's so stupid but i was reported on ebay today and i'm wondering what happens.

i asked a seller

"Will you ship to Toronto, Canada?"

and he replied

"Can't you read? No."

then i replied

"Obviously you're an a. Considering lots of people don't put other countries in their shipping but do so it was a simple question"


then forgot about it until i received this email from him today

"Your message was reported to Ebay. Every other message I will get from you will be reported too."


i have to laugh because it just proves that he is an a and i'm in turn reporting his email to even things up but what happens?

anyone know?

I think that people should be more courteous in emails. Further, I believe in the I'm rubber and you're glue theory which would suggest that if someone called someone a name, such as a <bleep>, then they are being one. Finally, I don't buy into the theory that if someone is rude to you that you have to be rude back.

Keep in mind that going around the word filter for "bad words" will get you reported here on the DIS.

you are not allowed to go around the filters so when you typed ** instead of the word you could in trouble.

I have never been reported, but I would be very surprised if a single complaint for an infraction like this resulted in any response from eBay. Imagine how many they get every day...

That's still bypassing the word filter. Believe it or not you're better off just typing the word and letting the filter do its job rather than abbreviating it with asterisks or just the first letter of the word.

I would imagine that if you're reported to eBay too many times then your privileges on eBay to buy or sell would be suspended or revoked. The seller had some needless attitude in his response to your question, but I don't think insulting the seller really helped matters.

I doubt that the eBay people would take as seriously someone reporting an e-mail or message that said "you've been reported" as they would a message with a personal insult.

If it were me, I'd let it go. If that seller takes that attitude with potential buyers asking questions, either his attitude will change or he won't last long on eBay.

The way eBay is these days? First they'll yank all your money out of your Paypal account.. Then they'll call every one of your neighbors and tell them you have a "potty mouth".. They will have your driver's license suspended and put a "boot" on your car.. They will report you for insurance fraud.. They'll send the IRS after you.. And then when they're done doing all of that, they'll come to your house and take away your first-born..

I wouldn't give it a second thought..

Don't worry about it. It was an honest question and didn't deserve the jerky response. Granted your response wasn't warranted either. Best to find another seller for that item you were wanting.

It amazes me how rude people can be to potential customers. I recently had a similar experience. It was a silver cuff bracelet and the picture was very blurry but it looked like it might have some scuffs on it. So I wrote her and asked if it had any scuffs on it and she answered me with "I said it's USED which means it has been worn. It has some scuffs because when silver is worn it gets scuffs." I SO wanted to write her back and tell her that I am fully aware of what "used" means, but things can be used and still be in good condition -- most people mention the condition in the listing and "used" is not the condition. And that it might have been a good idea to mention the scuffs in the listing and/or use a clear picture. But I decided it just wasn't worth it.

Back when the bidder was always visible I had a seller contact me and berate me for bidding on the other auction when hers had no bids.

She was really rude! And used some non-Dis language. I let her know it was because she only offered shipping to the States, in hind-sight I should have probably reported her.

The scary part was the item was readily available in the States, but not at all internationally. She just saw people putting the item up for auction and didn't bother to think why they might be paying 2x for something she picked up at her corner store

I wouldn't worry because I reported an ebayer who scammed me out of $75 and they did absolutely nothing.
