Everthing you wanted to know about Uber/Lyft at WDW

Just got back from our 5 night stay at Wilderness Lodge and thought I post an update.

#1 This was our 5th Disneyworld Trip. Usually once we got on the "magical express" bus after airport arrival it would get going shortly after. This time we sat on bus for 30 minutes before the bus headed to resorts even though nobody got on the bus after us. We might consider uber or another car service to and from airport next time but would still is magical express for our luggage.

#2 Wilderness Lodge is MUCH better than Port Orleans Riverside. We loved that even rooms farthest from lobby were only a 5 minute walk. Rooms were cleaner/nicer too. Also liked that WL is a hotel unlike Port Orleans Riverside which is like a huge motel (doors opening to outside.)

#2 Wilderness Lodge had big LCD Screens at the hotel bus stop showing (in real time) when buses for parks or Disney springs would arrive. This was a HUGE perk. I had not seen it at other resorts but I'm not sure if it's just WL.

#3 The buses to parks arrived promptly at WL and were typically only a 12-13 minute ride to the parks. We found out that the first bus of the day for each park (aprox 1 hour b4 opening) would go from resort straight to park. If you caught bus later in morning it would stop at another resort before taking you to park.

#3 We took boat rides directly to magic kingdom and for Chef Mickeys we took boat ride directly to Contemporary. The boat rides lasted 5-10 minutes. It was awesome and not having to fold the stroller and get on crowded bus after a late night at Magic was sweet. Taking the boat back to WL was sweet too.

#4. On the first night we ate at whispering Canyon. Very loud and silly but the food was VERY good.

#5 The heat was terrible. Would never go back in September.

#6- uber family was often unavailable.
This makes me nervous as we planned on using Uber Family. Will regular Uber, Lyft, or Years driver still take you if you have a 3 years old?

Never heard of Years, but Uber or Lyft drivers can refuse to take a child under 4 without a car seat, or a child 4-5 without a booster seat.

A lot of the time when UberFamily is unavailable, if you wait 10 or 15 minutes one will pop up. You can also try checking UberXL; there may be an XL driver in the area with a car seat who is not accepting UberX requests.

I think most Mears taxis still carry car seats, so you can fall back on them.

I met Mears! Thanks!

I want to take Uber from CSR to Royal Caribbean at Port Canaveral late morning of 10/16. Then from Port to a WDW water park the morning of 10/23, followed by a trip to MCO that afternoon. Questions:

Are Uber drivers willing to do the longer trips?
Is there a problem with drop off or pickup at port?

You don't schedule Uber. You just call for it when you are ready to leave.

There is an option where you can pre-schedule an uber now.. it was added around end of august.. Can be handy for some things (like getting to an airport/train station) but I haven't tried it.

Yes, it is working now, but be careful with it:

As I understand it, the driver can arrive anywhere within a 15 minute window. If you don't meet the driver within 5 minutes of arrival, you can be cancelled and charged the standard $5 cancellation fee.

I got pinged earlier this week at about 4:30, and when I arrived I phoned the rider who said she meant to request it at 5:30, and had cancelled the request. I try to be reasonable so I waived the fee, but if I hadn't made contact and the cancellation didn't go thru she would've been out $5.

Thanks for the heads up. I think we'll stick with on demand. That's worked very well for us

Hi guys,

I'm new to Uber at WDW, but would love to try it to get from Caribbean Beach to the Contemporary for a 5:45 PM Chef Mickey's ADR. We'll need a car seat since our son is 2 1/2. Is this even worth it, or would the wait for an Uber XL with child seat or Uber Family be prohibitive? Is there a way to specify on Uber XL that we need a car seat? For such a short ride I'd be fine with him just being in a booster, but I don't know if they are even allowed to do that. He's a pretty big 2 1/2 year old.

Early indications/weather patterns show that it's going to be HOT while we're there, and the idea of getting into a car and dropped off right at the Contemporary rather dealing the buses and the waiting and the walking with a toddler and a pregnant woman sound great.

Thanks!

Will you have your own booster? Not sure anything but Uber Family is an option without your own seat. Technically they are not supposed to pick you up if you have a child that is required to be in a car seat by law.
A taxi may be an option for you though. An Uber/Lyft driver is not exempt from the rules like a Taxi driver is. At least as I understand it they can pick you up and it's the parent that will be fined, not the driver, if you were to be stopped.

Thanks! I've used Uber XL before that has had a car seat, but not in WDW. I don't remember how we went about making sure the XL driver had a car seat. We were in NYC so EVERYTHING was available :-) I think we'll just request an Uber Family with plenty of time to spare to get to our ADR.

Hopefully the drivers here will chime in but as I understand it in FL, only Uber Family has a car seat, and there is an upcharge for it. So you have to request Family from the get go.
And in FL Uber Family is only in some areas, not as wide spread as it sounds like it in in NYC.

Thanks again! I'll watch for any posts from drivers. Again, it's not like it's absolutely necessary to have one - worst case we can bus to the MK and walk or monorail to the Contemporary. I don't think I'd feel comfortable using a taxi without a car seat, bc it's not like we can't get into a car accident just bc we're in WDW :-)

We normally have a car rental during our trips but have decided against a rental for our upcoming trip next month. I would like to do a grocery/beer/wine run after we check-in but not sure if I should just cab it, Uber or just Garden Grocer. We have never used GG nor have we ever used Uber so not sure the best way to go. Any thoughts?

Most likely the cheapest method is to Uber/Lyft, shop for yourself and then Uber/Lyft back.
But, your time matters too. So personally I'd price out what I want with GG and see if it feels like a figure you'd be comfortable paying. If it is, let them do it. If not, go the Uber/Lyft route.
Personally, we've just done GG so we didin't have to fool with it ourselves.

Perfect...that's what I'll do.

Thanks so much!

It doesn't show up as Uber Family in the app.

At the bottom of the request screen, there's a list of available options. If car seats are available in the area of your pickup, they will show up as "UberX + Car Seat" and "UberXL + Car Seat." In Orlando, they are available in the tourist corridor, running roughly from the resort area SW of WDW up thru I-Drive to Universal, and also specifically at the Florida Mall.

Availability varies; at times you may have to wait a while until one is available to request. They'll still be listed on the request screen, but the ETA will say "Not Available."

Unless you really really have to use Uber to get from CBR to CR you can easily take the bus from CBR to MK and just use the walkway from MK to get to CR. That is if you don't mind the walk itself. Yes it will take a little longer but it will save you some money.

Shouldnt be a problem. Just be aware that coming back from Port Canaveral is more expensive since they have higher rates over there. (PC is about 60 miles from wdw)

Are Uber fares cheaper or about the same as a taxi? Just trying to figure out the advantages of one over the other.
