Ever seen someone change a baby diaper on a dining/picnic table at WDW?

I will confess to changing my son's wet (not poopy) diaper in his stroller and even on the ground at WDW, but never on a table. We only do that because, as my husband likes to say, changing our son is like wrestling a baby alligator! All hands on deck to change a 14 month old's diaper.

I'm sure people posted about us during our trip to MGM. It took at least four adults to change a diaper. One to "hold him down," one to distract him, one to actually change him and the fourth to get rid of the used diaper while the "diaper changer" is trying to snap his onesie, sing songs to him, and put the paci back in his mouth!

How is a 14 month old stronger than so many adults????? He never ceases to amaze me.

If for some reason I absolutely HAD to use a table, I would treat it the same way I treat any foreign surface (floor/bathroom fold-down things...) I use as a changing table -- I would wipe it off both before and after changing PLUS use a changing pad.

Ditto on DaisyDuck... I carry handwipes and antibacterial gel everywhere with me. We are actually bringing a can of Lysol with us to use in our room this year. You never know who's been there before you or what they were doing!! This is so repulsive! :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2:

Luckily I've never seen it and I never want to. On a bench / in your lap facing a wall is OK (I would prefer bathroom, but i can live) but on a table? EWW!

All of these stories are exactly why I carry a travel pack of Clorox wipes w/ me when we go to WDW. I wipe down every table before we sit to eat. :sad2:

Me too! My husband thinks I am weird sometimes, but after I showed him this thread, I do believe he has a whole new respect for his germophobe wife! I started packing the wipes when my DS was an infant, because those changing tables are too nasty for words sometimes...and I just kept packing them. Never leave home without them!

We saw diaper changes being done out in the open TWICE this past week at WDW!! Once was on a bench leaving the Gorilla section on the Africa walking trail. You have to walk by this bench to continue on the trail. When we rounded the corner the poop smell just smacked us all in the face. DISGUSTING!! We don't want to smell your kids "mess", and we REALLY don't want to see it! The other time was in the MK on a bench out in front of everyone passing by over in the Dumbo/Carousel vacinity.

:confused3 I just don't get it. I would never change a diaper out in the open like that. :sad2:

OK, I don't really care if I see someone changing their child's diaper out in the open (I mean, they should attempt to be discreet, but I know that there are sometimes "diaper emergencies" :scared: and they can't make it to a private spot), but it is NEVER ok to change your child's diaper on a surface where people eat!!! Someone could get seriously sick

Absolutely. I think that if you can't get to a restroom, or if there is a huge line ect. Changing in a stroller or on a bench discreetly is ok. Definitely NOT where anyone is going to eat. sometimes things happen and you just can't wait to find a restroom, but there is always some alternative to on the table.

Yep. A diaper got changed right next to us in the Riverside Mill food court. On the table, a few days into our very first WDW trip. The woman doing the changing got mad at me because I was staring at her!

I had wrestlers for kids too, and had to change them on the ground. No changing tables for them! I always brought a large changing pad and plenty of wipes. I also always packed several large Ziploc bags for disposal. If I didn't want to smell it, I was sure no one else would either! ;)

33% of respondents have seen this at WDW. Ughhh ... I had hoped the # would be much lower.

Feces at the table is disgusting and unacceptable. It also speaks volumes about the sort of person who deliberately and wrecklessly puts it there. "Feces containing my DNA is special, and should be welcomed upon this and every dining table. My feces is icecream, whereas yours is unsanitary and smells bad."

I have read all these posts from people who have seen this be done; I am wondering if anyone has SAID anything to these people??? I, myself, might be at a loss for words in this situation. I don't have a problem gently confronting someone who is doing something blatantly wrong, but how do you find the words to address THIS calmy? So seriously, what would someone say upon watching this be done, or what has been said?

I did. When the "lady" who was changing her kids diaper on the table at Riverside Mill gave me a dirty look for staring at her, she also said loudly "A little privacy please!" And I said, just as loudly as she did, "You can have all the privacy you want if you change that diaper in the bathroom - it's right behind you!" Then I went to find a CM.

I don't know if anything happened after that, we left and she was still exclaiming about "the nerve of some people."

Uggh... want to apologize. I just realized I made an attempt to hijack this thread! Sorry!! To keep it at the original post, maybe I will start a new thread... Sorry for not being very magical... had poopy diaper/table on the brain :crazy2: :lmao:

It really amazes me how disrespectful and selfish people are when it comes to this issue, but then again, as humans, we are very selfish.

Living so close to the parks and going so often, exposes you to a lot of the ignorances going on in this country and the world, I hate to say it. I have seen some things that I'm not even going to go into in this thread, but yes, I have seen women changing their babies diapers on tables, benches, brick walls, in strollers, etc. I really feel that all of these are incredibly unsanitary and inconsiderate. I feel the only appropriate place to change a babies diaper is in the restroom on the changing station. If you keep some kind of baby wipe with you, you can sanitize it before you use it, but I'm sorry, I do not want to see other people changing diapers in public. Ironically, I always see this happen not even 10 feet from a bathroom. I do have strong opinions about this issue and I do not mean to insult anyone, honestly. This issue is not just a disney world thing, I see it everywhere in my everyday life.

I guess I just don't see how it's more convenient to change a diaper on a bench when the bathroom is just a few footsteps away? Or how sanitary it could be to change a babies diaper in his/her stroller? I do not have kids, but I know that when I do, I hope I still have the common decency to take other people into consideration.

Sorry! END RANT! lol

I don't think we have seen one changed on a table, but I did see a woman lay her child down on the ground at the boat dock at MK's entrance. We were going to ride the boat to the Poly and she just laid her kid down on the ground and changed the diaper right there!

BTW, I never like changing the girls diapers on the changing table. I would take them to the restroom and change it standing up. I got real good at that:lmao: and it helps that my Mom would go with us to help. I don't think there is anything wrong with changing a diaper in a stroller either, especially if you are in the restroom and away from anywhere that people eat, lol.

Yes, I think it's gross to change a baby's diaper on a picnic table (and would never do it). But if you think about it, it's probably no more unsanitary than the birds that fly overhead and poop on the tables (the seating area by Flame Tree come to mind particularly).

People with kids really are not doing this out of spite..if you have kids you will have noticed what condition baby changing table are in. Most times they are too small and your baby risks falling off, they are too worn and there is fear it will fall off the wall, there are no security straps, they are being used at the time, you have other kids on tow...a million reasons why a parent chooses not to use a baby changing table that people without babies would just not understand.
Yes I agree the table top changing is very un sanitary but I have changed my baby in his stroller, under trees on the ground...on benches at the zoo for too many reasons I care to mention and if it really bothers people I only have one thing to say to them... life is too short and you really should be getting on with yours. Untill you are in that similar position please dont judge.
p.s. Disney is no different..on two occasions I went to change my baby it was just a solid counter to change him on with no security straps or nothing.
One false move and he would have rolled onto the floor...that was the day that I took him outside of the restrooms and lay him on the ground and apparently offended the masses with my selfishness for wanting to keep my baby safe...many apologies for that!!!!!!!

It would never occur to me to use a dining table to change my dd diaper. WOW! While at Disney, I always take advantage of the Baby Care Centers or the family restrooms. Even though on this last trip of mine, we got a dirty look after we came out of the family restrooms, from one lady who was specifically waiting for that restroom. The worst I have personally have done over at WDW was on NYE over Epcot, I changed my dd in her stroller that we brought from home. The lines to any restroom and baby care centers were toooooo long. But we did put her wet diaper inside a diaper bag (those they sell over at babies r us) and disposed of it properly and used proper hand sanitation.

I was at McDonalds this week and a woman in the Playplace area changed both of her twins on the top of the table! I was stunned! When she changed the first one I was disgusted but when she took the second one out and changed it too I was appalled! I was there with a big group of mom's and we all watched and talked about where else she could have done that. I have changed my kids in the floor board of my car if there was not a place to change them.

I am not offended when people change babies on the ground, in a stroller or places where people are not eating. I don't have kids yet but I realize that sometimes you do what you gotta do.

But, notice that I said "babies"...i would find it more offensive if you were changing your 4-5 year old out in public. I have known parents that were lax in toilet training their kid(talking about healthy normal kids) and figured it was just easier doing the diaper thing...babies poops just aren't as nasty to me. A bigger kid poops like an adult and I don't need to see or smell that.

I think obviously, using a private area is best but sometimes that's not possible. But, take your dirty diapers with you please and don't use a table in a dining area.
