Ever had swimmer's ear when....

you haven't been swimming? My husband got the worst earache this weekend, and the area under his ear got all swollen. He went to the Dr. yesterday and was told he has swimmer's ear. Now, he hasn't even walked past a pool let alone been in one all summer. I'm assuming it's from taking showers, but I just thought it was odd. Anyone ever hear of this?

Yes, my ds had swimmer's ear one winter from taking a bath.

I've always heard you can get it that way. Unfortunately, we've been dealing with it from too much swimming. My youngest dd has it bad. I thought she was over it, but a week and a half later it is back. So we are on another round of drops. I should own stock in Cipro this summer!

I get swimmer's ear from the shower. The first time I got it I didn't believe the doctor when he said it was from the shower. When I got it again - I became a believer. I've showered with earplugs for years now and haven't gotten it again.

We use a product called Swim Dry to dry out the kids ears when they are in the pool or shower. I actually had a doctor tell me I could use alcohol or vodka instead. Personally, I can think of a lot of other things to do with my vodka.

Yes my DS gets this & he has to put drops in his ear after showering to prevent it happening again. He is a swimmmer also, which is where he first got it, but the doctor said that you can even get it from showering.

The water gets in the ear canal & doesn't dry out & so therefore an infection occurs.

The best thing to do if you're prone to swimmer's ear is to dry the inside of your ear with a blow dryer. A blow dryer on warm will also help relieve the pain of swimmer's ear.

Thanks guys. You know, just when you think you're over worrying about ear infections from your kid, your husband comes along.
I think I'll go out and get those drops that dry the ear after if he does get another one, as not showering is not an option!

I used to get swimmer's ear all the time when I was a kid. My Mom (being the good Italian Mom that she was), would put warm olive oil in my ears. Believe it or not....it worked.
