Ever booked more than you needed?

I was just "visiting" WDW by looking at pictures of villas. Some of them looked wonderful! I was just wondering if you have booked for your family a villa that was more than you needed for your group? I know that to admit this, you were probably keeping another family from what they really might have needed, but when I look at OKW grand villas, my family of 3 would love the experience of staying in one! For us it would be a total waste of points, but oh, the thought of a grand villa!!!!
I suppose that when we book a 1 BR, it could be considered a villa too large for our family, but we can never go back to a studio after the space of the 1BR. Any thoughts? Diane

They're your points to use as you see fit; no reason to feel guilty (IMHO).

We booked a 1BR for just the two of us - me and DH... reasoning? So he could stay up late and watch TV and I could go to sleep. (night owl vs early bird!)

Pretty lame reason - but I since the first vacation in a 1BR I have felt that's the way all vacations should be! (Unless we have a 2 BR that is!) :cool1:

There are those out there that feel that one should not book unless you are pretty certain you will use it. Some feel it is inappropriate to book at 11 months with the idea of changing over at 7 months. Some feel booking time you may or may not want is wrong. Or maybe you book a 2 BR and a 1 BR because you don't know who's going. In all of these cases I'd say use your points for your advantage and don't worry about it.

I always plan to book a one bedroom instead of a studio for myself, because a studio just feels like a hotel room but a one bedroom feels GREAT!!!! And I am addicted to those bathtubs! Sorry if I am supposed to feel like I snatched a one bedroom away from some deserving family - but I have no regrets!!!!!

In Aug. last year, we booked a 2BR and 2 studios, BWV std. view for our upcoming 4th of July trip. Planned to have a full group of 16 :crowded: Last month about half backed out and I cancelled one of the studios. Plans change, but like Dean mentioned, they are our points to do with as we're allowed. I'm kinda glad things have worked out. Now we'll have more room to breathe :cloud9:

Our first stay (just DW and I) was in a studio - after that, I can see us preferring a 1BR. It's just so much not.like.a.hotel.room than a studio. However, if we're staying with another couple in a 2BR, we have no problem taking the 'studio' side - we still have the kitchen, etc.

I think you book what you want - they're your points and you're on vacation!

Enjoy that grand villa for me!

DH and I always book a 1BR now. It just feels more like "home" over a studio. Of course, some might consider it wasting points, but those folks might also think that booking a room that holds 4 for only 2 people (studio and 1BR) is overbooking. Once, about 8 years ago, we booked a 2BR for DS, DH, and me. ITA that it'd be fun to try out a GV just once.

We had a GV at OKW for 5 Dec 27,2003-Jan1 2004. We started out with between 7 and 9 people coming and ended up with 5. It was marvelous - No one slept in the living room and with 4 bathrooms what can I say - The guides in the salesroom at BW when we stopped in to see the SSR models wanted to know who was crazy enough to use that many points for so few people and then wanted to know what time the party was. It was fun and I don't feel guilty -just lucky that I was able to have the points to do that at the time.

We usually have only 3 people in a 2 bedroom, and I do not think I am "hogging" a 2 bedroom unit. Why shouldn't we have enough real bedrooms for one couple and one guest? OKW has two beds in the 2nd bedroom, but our adult offspring (one male and one female) don't care to share a bedroom, so I can see doing a GV for just 4 of us if they both decide to travel at the same time. Next January we will have a 2 bedroom though, because we weren't sure both will come.

I would have never thought that anyone would consider booking a 1BR for 2 people "over-booking". Now a 2BR would, but not a 1BR. IMO that's why we bought into DVC - to get accomodations that are better than what we could get if we were just staying at a hotel room. There are other features of the 1BR that make it preferable for 2 people other than the larger size - the nice bath, the laundry and being able to cook in your kitchen. I know when staying at HHI - we will always get at least a 1BR, even if it is just my DW and myself.

ITA! We have only stayed in a studio twice for the two of us, and then only for a night. We much prefer the 1 bedroom for the two of us and 2 bedroom if we number 3 or more. We certainly HAVE put 8 in the 2 bedroom, but only when we didn't have enough points left to do a GV.

Actually, I wouldn't even consider a 2 BR for two people "overbooking". I probably would share the king bed if one of my DDs were with me, but otherwise it's much nicer to have the 2nd bedroom for a guest. For instance, if I took my best friend I would get the master BR and she would get the 2nd BR. I wouldn't make anyone sleep on the pull-out - I know they are probably super comfortable now but I have vivid memories of our childhood sleeper sofa, and all I can say is never again!!!!

Hey, don't feel bad-that's the main reason we book the one bedroom, too-and so that DH can watch his sports all the time and I can watch the DVC and happenings at WDW channels.

When DW and I are going by ourselves, we go for 1BR. We like having the full kitchen and the jet tub. When our 16 yo DS comes with us, we try to book a 2 BR. Have you ever tried to get a teenager out of the bathroom? Thank goodness we only have a son!

Yeah, we bring our kids now obviously, and don't mind much staying all on top of each other, but that's because we're family and they're little. That's how we're comfortable, but I think it's perfectly reasonable to put a guest in their own room, or your own kids for that matter as long as you have the points and that's what you want to do.

I know that when my husband and I come without the kids (someday a long time from now!) we'll still probably get the one bedroom because of the laundry ad kitchen and because it's just so darn comfortable. We're on vacation, and that's one of the reasons we decided to buy.

After reading the above about the 1 bdrm now I am wondering if on our first trip home I have made a mistake for myself, DH and 5 year of DS to stay in a studio. We were hoping to use less points this year to enable us next year to stay in a bigger place. I know I would rather stay in a 1 bedroom. I guess I better hurry up and decide. We've already got reservations end of Oct. for a studio at SSR.

If you're comfortable all in the same hotel room usually, I wouldn't worry about it. The studios are just like nice, big hotels rooms with a kitchenette. We would have been perfectly fine there with one child, and even with two. Now that it's three (welcome baby boy!) it'd be a bit much. Please don't flame me over occupancy issues! I've already followed that thread...

Our upcoming stay, at OKW, is in a GV, and there's only four of us going. I didn't think twice about booking it. My DD is bringing her boyfriend, and the GV works the best for us. We all will have our own bedroom.
As a matter of fact, I transferred my points to a friend, who has OKW as her "home" so I could get it at the 11 month mark.
When it's just DH and I, we always book a 1 BR.
