Ever been stuck in an elevator?

My daughter spent from 11:48pm - 12:58am last night trapped between the 6th and 5th floor of her apartment building together with three other friends. They were returning from a late night food run.

The fire department ended up prying open the doors and pulling them up to the 6th floor.

At least none of them had to go to the bathroom before getting stuck. They just sat on the floor and had a picnic while they waited.

I was once stuck in an elevator at the library for an hour. Prior to getting a new book and prior to smartphones.

I saw someone have a complete meltdown while she was stuck on an elevator. The doors were cracked open and it was between floors. That elevator was always breaking down. Just one example of why the funding for HBCUs was SORELY needed. Thanks to those who finally provided it!

Depends on what you mean by an elevator. I got stuck on ToT at DCA once. I believe the vertical shaft system was made by Otis Elevator. Might have been for 8 minutes. I got a good look at the shaft, and it had a ton of details (to look old) even though one normally would see it just flash by. The prerecorded message about waiting patiently was in a horror movie style voice. Once we were back at the loading station, we were all given the opportunity to ride immediately or get off. I think a couple of people declined.

No, and I'd like to keep it that way. I hate elevators and I'm terrified of getting stuck on one. Fortunately I don't have to use them very often, but when I do I try to make sure that I'm not hungry/thirsty/have to pee before I get on one.

I have also only been stuck on the ToT. Didn't get sucked into another dimension though, unfortunately.

Yes, once. I started experiencing some feelings of claustrophobia too which made it extra fun. I don’t know exactly how long it was, but it was a decent amount of time, and whatever it was, it definitely felt a lot longer! Fortunately my son was in there with me, as it made me hold it together so he wouldn’t be frightened.

Yes, more than once at work many years ago. Very short period of time. Once though, I was stuck for more than an hour. I also had to walk down 22 flights twice :scared:

Sorry that happened to your daughter!

I never have, but I am certain that if I ever am I will have waited too long to go to the bathroom before I even get on the elevator.

I feel exactly the same way. I always make sure I have an empty bladder, full bottle of water and fully charged cell phone before I get on one. It helps.

Yes, in a hotel. We decided to go up to the restaurant/observation level on like the 32nd floor or something and when we got up there, the door never opened. We just sat there. The help buttons didn't work. We sat there for 15 minutes and it felt like forever as I kept expecting us to drop to our deaths at any second. I hate elevators.

Never been stuck in one and hope I never am - it's one of my fears. I've had nightmares of falling in elevators. I think I've watched too many cheesy movies.
