Esim question

So I do a lot of international travel and always use an esim. Our last trip we were on a river cruise and the esim worked the whole time cruising or in port. I mean we were always very close to land the whole time so I wasn't surprised there. We will be on the Treasure in a few weeks and I am wondering if I buy a Caribbean esim will it work in port on the ship? Will we be close enough to towers that would allow it to connect. I realize it will not work out at sea but thought I would see if anyone else has had any experience with this. The specific cruiseship esims are much more expensive. I say "no big deal" but my husband just wants to occasionally be able to check email and surf the net randomly. Any thoughts are most appreciated!

The ship turns off the Cellular at Sea while in port so as long as the esim says it's good at whatever port you are in, it will work. You may experience issues if you are at a tender port as you may be just far away enough away, depending on how far the nearest tower is.

With Verizon's most current plan structure I added 'all the time international' voice/msg/data for $10 a month vs US only unlimited .....

I haven't used a eSim, but I have used my cellular phone on the T-Mobile network while onboard at ports in the Caribbean. The signal is stronger in some ports than in others, but it always worked. Of course, you can get off the ship if you really need access and it's not working well onboard -- most of the ports we visited had coffee shops with WiFi.

As I am in Canada I continue to be quite jealous of the affordability of US cell plans. I do have CAN/US data share in my plan so that’s good but looking for other alternatives. That looks like a fantastic option you have there.

Yes, it should work when you're in port. I do find sometimes the metal of the ship blocks the signal a bit, so if you're not connecting (but you think you should be) go out on your verandah or go out to the open decks and it should work.
