Ergo baby carrier

Does anyone use the Ergo carrier if so what do you think? I have just ordered on for DD.

We love our ERGO. We used it a lot last summer when DD was between the ages of 12-18 months. We even brought it to Disney with us when we knew we wouldn't be in the park long.

She loves to be on DH's back because he is so tall. She would rather be in the front with me when sleepy though.

I think it does one thing VERY VERY well.
Carrying a bigger baby or toddler on your back. You can do front, hip and carry smaller babies, but there are other carriers that do that better.
This is my DH's and everyone else's favorite carrier - it's simple and appeals to the masses.
We are bring the ergo and several other carriers with us to WDW - I wouldn't even bring a stroller but my MIL wants us to bring one so that they can go and have a grandma day.

We used an Ergo (actually two) when we adopted twins in China and it was a godsend. So much easier than maneuvering a stroller through crowded sidewalks and across clogged streets. You don't say how old your DD is and that will make a difference. Ours were 12 months and 18 lbs. at the time. A couple of observations from a week and a half of intensive use:

1. The Ergo was incredibly comfortable and the hip strap distributed the weight nicely. No back problems at all.
2. Getting the girls in a front carry position was a piece of cake. I disagree with the PP that the Ergo is not well suited for the front carry position although may have meant for an infant . . . this may be true as I don't have any experience.
3. Getting them in a back carry was tough without assistance, particularly since they were unable to grab me around the neck and hold on.
4. They get really hot. I mean really, really hot. It was in the upper 50s (F) and shirts were drenched where there was body contact. I'm sure all carriers are like this.

I'm a big fan and it's a lot easier to maneuver with a sling than with a stroller. My only concern with a back carry at WDW is that you can't shield your child from getting bumped which will happen in the crowds there. Very easy to do this with a front carry but it's a little tougher on the back for a full day.

I just wanted to say that the front carry is really easy to do, and it does do a ok job with kiddos who aren't too big or too small.
There was a 4 or 5 month age range when I got into the front carry

I'm just nit picking the Ergo, a Mei Tai would be my first choice for a front carry - I'm not doing much of that lately with a toddler though!!

Thanks for all the info guys cant wait until it arrives! Will make life easier for me! DD is only 5 weeks but I know someone who used it on a 2 wk old.

We bought an Ergo for DD when we went to Europe - she was about 2 years old and I knew there were places that we wouldn't be able to use the stroller and she wouldn't want to walk.

I didn't want one of those HUGE backpack things so this was perfect! It was easy to get her in a back carry because she was old enough to put her arms around my neck and swing herself in there.

No worries, I've been trying to figure out how to wear two Ergos at once so one girl can be in front and one in back. It's a bit of a challenge!

Oh I know a mom who's done this actually - she did prefer to use a wrap or MT on the front after the Ergo was on. That way you can loop the strap though the Ergo shoulder. I will see if she's got any pictures of it.

I liked my Ergo a lot when DD was smaller. Now that she is fully mobile, she won't stand for being carried like that. Sometimes I miss the good old days. -

We also have one and love it. I agree with whoever said that it carries a bigger toddler in it very well - on a recent trip DH wore our almost 5 year old on his back! She's only about 30 pounds, but still.

I 100% agree with Jessica. I don't have an Ergo but have a Beco which is similar. This type of carrier is an excellent back carrier. It is by far the absolute most comfy back carrier around.

It is not as wonderful (IMO) for a front carry. I much prefer a mei tai for front carries. I don't like how the big thick waist band fits in the front carry. It's also not what I would choose for a newborn. I prefer a ring sling for a newborn. However, some like this is a front carrier so it should work fine for you. Just make sure if you use it with a tiny baby you use the infant insert.

LOVE the Ergo!! We bought our first one when DD1 was 8 months old. I wish I had discovered it when she was about 3 months though! We used it a ton with her. That's the only way I got my housework done LOL!

DD2 is not as into it. She will ride on occasion, but she prefers to be in the stroller or carried. But I still love the Ergo and highly recommend it.

Yay - we love our ergo, it's just one of the many different carriers we own.

I'm not so keen on it for back carries - but that is due to my funny body shape I can't get it to stop gaping due to my sway back. I do still front carry Em who's 16mths. My sister wears it comfortably for back carries though

But I fixed that by buying a patapum haha - I now have an ergo, patapum, 2 meitais, 2 wraps, a sling and have plans to make a ring sling
