Erg...fasting for colonoscopy

Does no one use the pills for prep anymore? I'm having it done in a few weeks and was offered my choice. 5yrs ago I had my first one n took the pills.

Keep lots of reading material in the bathroom - you'll be spending a lot of time there :)

TMI, but my wife's only comment when I had mine done this year was that I didn't spend any more time than normal in the bathroom.:lmao:

.

And i saw on another thread that some people say to drink the stuff cold, it helps a little.

It may help the taste, but next time I'm not going to chill it. 3/4 of the way through drinking that gallon I was shivering, and I am never cold.

Best wishes Minkydog. My turn is next week. The thing I dread the most is not eating solid food for a whole day. Good luck & please let us know how you...uh...come out;)

I highly suggest using baby wipes! Trust me, you will be RAW! DD12 (celiac) and I have both had them and never want to have to do them again.

Never had that issue. I had no injuries or side effects at all. (And I still have the color photos they gave me to prove it)

Actually I have heard from other guys that the procedure just wasn't that big of a deal. Most guys I know are wimps about pain (including me!) so I'm wondering if people in general get a bit too worked up about it. I'm sure it's not as pleasant as a Dole Whip at WDW, but perhaps the fear factor could be scaled down a bit.:confused3

Well, the prep is different, but the procedure was a 30 minute nap.....followed by a huge meal!

today must be a popular day for colonoscopies...DD's is in about an hour. She slept in as long as she could yesterday to avoid the hunger...about 2 pm! She used a straw as well for the chilled drano prep. Here's hoping all those going in for this *fun* precedure receives the answers they are hoping for!

I had my first one in September and was offered the option of liquid or pills. I took, I think it was 32 pills, 4 every 15 minutes with 8 oz of water each time. I slept through the procedure. The only discomfort was some bad gas pains for a few hours after the test.

Count me as someone who prefers this to a mammogram or other "female" test.

I swear our bodies are worse than cars, so many parts to keep tuned up :lmao:

Well, so far so good. I was supposed to drink the second half of the solution this a.m. but when I opened the fridge to get the container it dropped to the floor and shattered. I called the doctor and he feels like it will be okay. This might be TMI, but "everything" is pretty clear now. Nothing is raw and believe it or not, I'm still "going". Scheduled for 1pm. I'm pretty hungry.

So late lunch/early dinner around 3-4? Or maybe just a little ice cream break?:)

and for those that feel it is OK to put off a screening colonoscopy, a reminder from Dr Oz.....unfortunately I had the same dx as him so I go back in 5 years. I think I will make it 3, by choice.
(good luck all of you prepping today or soon!)

Maybe some kind of snack. DD18 is making dinner tonight, so i don't want to be full. But then again, the last time she made a new recipe for dinner we didn't eat until 8:30. My blood sugar dropped enough that I had to get a sandwich about an hour before the food was ready.

we are back...DD results are normal which is good physically, but no answers for her issues. Enjoy your dinner Minkydog and hope all goes well.

UPDATE--Everything worked out well. Pictures are remarkably clear, considering that i only drank 1/2 the solution. Anesthesia (propofal) worked very well and was easy to wake up afterward. The doctor says all looks clean, so i'm good for another 7 years. :thumbsup2

DD18 made a shrimp alfredo for supper, which was yum yum! And I was glad to get it because i have been STARVING!

Shrimp Alfredo sounds delicious! Glad you have this experience (ahem) behind you.:)

Finfan- Hope your DD can find a solution to problems, but glad the procedure went ok.
