Epipen on planes

We are traveling to WDW from NJ next month. We now need to carry with us an epipen for DS. It's in its original box with the pharmacy's label on it.

Do we need to bring anything more with us to get it through security at the airport? Do we need to pull it out of our travel bag as we go through screening?

I searched TSA's web site & found nothing

Different TSA agents have told me different things. Some have said it's not necessary to pull epi pens out, while others say it's mandatory. I've stopped asking and simply pull them out and put them in the bin. It saves the risk of them showing up in the x-ray as something suspicious and having a TSA agent pull my whole carry-on bag apart and be submitted to other unpleasantries.

We have been travelling with DH's epipen for a number of years. We keep it in its storage tube, having discarded the box--the storage tube does have the prescription attached to it. It does not have to go in the 3-1-1 plastic bag. Since we travel to a number of different countries, we also have a form letter signed by DH's doctor stating that the epipen is required due to life-threatening allergies. We have never been questioned about carrying the epipen (many years ago we were questioned in the Caribbean, but this was before we had the epipen -- we then had the same prescription in a syringe).

For years I have traveled with the pen. My MO: I have the pharmicist attach a RRX label directly on the pen and I throwaway the box. I place the pen in the grey box for xray at security checkpoint.

Good question, I have one too for bee stings. I think I'll put it in my checked luggage until we get there. No bees in MN right now.

Please don't stick it in your checked luggage. Never put medication in your checked luggage. What if it is lost or delayed?

Exactly. Or there's a bee in the destination airport terminal. It does happen. Never, ever, ever pack prescription meds in checked luggage. Too many things could happen to it. Not only could your luggage get lost or delayed, airport security goes through checked luggage. Things sometimes don't get put back in your luggage through carelessness or theft.

In addition to the allergies that require the Epipen for my granddaughter, she has asthma as does her father. My daughter put the epipen, 2 inhalers and the nebulizer in back pack that was her carry on. At the security check point she told them what was in the bag and they pulled her and the bag aside. They were most interested in the nebulizer but there were no issues with taking anything on the plane.

Good point, but I don't have a severe allergy. I had a reaction years ago for some odd reason...then a few years went by and I got nailed twice in one summer and nothing happened...just a precaution, but I will put it in my carry on just in case...

I carry a epi pen and have never taken it out of my carry on. It does have the pharmacy label on it. I also bring a note that I have to have it on the plane with me. Michelle
