Epcot's Tree lighting ceremony??

I have read that this is something not to be missed but can't find a whole lot of info about what happens. Is this a big thing or does it take 5 minutes? I'm not sure how much time to allot for this. We are planning next Christmas because I am obsessive with details, lol. We've already made reservations for the Spirit of Aloha for 8pm one of our nights. If we stayed at Epcot til the 6pm tree lighting, would we have ample time to return to the Poly via monorail for the 8pm show?

I watched the tree lighting ceremony at Epcot last month, and it was about 15-20 long. It was really cute.

We were told it was 'shmaltzy". And then my dd, 10, was getting tired and said..."Do we have to stay for it? I'm so tired!!" Well, as we were leaving WS, we saw a ton of people waiting by the tree. The crowd went all the way down the area back to Future World!!! We stayed to see what would happen. The characters, and there were a lot of 'em, came out onto the stage with WS CM's and sang songs and did a whole act. It was really quite cute. DD was happy she had stayed. Told me that I was making some really 'good choices'!!!

Another thumbs up for the Tree Lighting. I liked how they tied in the different countries to the show. The tree and archway are beautiful!
You should have plenty of time to get back to the Poly. The show would be over by 6:20. Even counting on crowds to slow you down, you should easily be on the monorail well before 7:00. Once on the monorail, its a short ride(maybe 10 minutes) to the TTC, where you can get off and walk right to the Poly, probably a 5 minute walk. Enjoy!
