I am calendar looking again...;)

Epcot closes at 7pm, world showcase open until 9pm.

Haven't been to epcot, what is World showcase? :rotfl:

Ohhh, Is that the drinking thing?

(You'll have to pardon me if I am wrong again, I am so a newbie here, lol)

Epcot is divided into two sections, the World Showcase and Future World. Generally speaking, Future World opens two hours before the World Showcase.

Well, there's more to do than drink, but people have been known to "drink around the world". They have exhibits from different countries, a couple rides (including the new Three Caballeros ride in Mexico), and plenty of shopping! :teeth:

(And yes, booze from different countries too lol)

and live entertainment..

and many attractions in future world remain open until 9/9:30 anyway.

LOL I feel like an idiot.
I knew I had heard something about drinking. :lmao:

One more question here, I called to ask for the illuminations times for our time there and all week it is at 9pm, the park closing hours are at 7pm though. How does that work, would we have to stick around after the regular park closed or would this be when the world showcase came in handy?

:)

Illuminations is in the World Showcase portion of the Park.

Some attractions in future world close at 7 (Spaceship Earth, Energy, Innovantions, Immagination - I think). The remainder of the park- the most popular areas of Future World and the entire World Showcase (which as stated above had rides, characters meetings, movies, great places for food, performance groups, and shopping, as well as kidcot stops for the little ones) stays open until 9. Illuminations takes place in the World Showcase Lagoon- the world showcase surrounds this body of water. There is plenty to do while waiting for Illuminations- as i siad only some of the attractions close.

For your information the the World Showcase doesn't open until 11am.

To give you some perspective - the World Showcase is the "back half" of Epcot. To walk around the entire lake is a full mile, so it's large and there is plenty to do. We spent 18 hours there on a New Year's Eve once and STILL didn't see and do everything in the park.

Hi, Siobhan -

Think of Epcot as a giant "Figure 8". The bottom circle represents Future World - it's where you'll enter the park, etc. Spaceship Earth is at the front of the park ( the "big golf ball",) and all of the rides are in various pavillions that essentially curve around the sides of the "8" - Ellen's Universe of Energy, Mission Spce and Test Track on the left hand side, and The Seas with Nemo, The Land and Imagination on the right. There's a great fountain in the middle, as well as 2 Innoventions buildings, shops and restaurants.

Then there's a sort of "connecting" walkway, and you get to the top half of the "8". In the center of that part of the 8 is water - that's where Illuminations is staged each night. Around the 8 are all the countries. If you think of that top part as a clock, the country of Mexico is at about 7:00, and Canada is at about 5:00, with Norway, China, Germany, Italy, America, Japan, Morocco, France, and England all the way around - America is in the middle at about 12 noon.

Usually the "front" part of Epcot opens at 9:00am and the countries don't open until 11:00am. The front part closes at 7:00pm, although many of the big rides now stay open unitl 9:00 or even 9:30pm. The back part closes at 9:00pm but Illuminations begins at 9:00pm, so all the peole who are still shopping and eating in the restaurants come out and watch the fireworks before they leave the park.

Hope that helps clear it up for you, and that I didn't confuse you more!!!

Think of it this way... Epcot effectively is "open" from 9 AM until 9 PM. From 9 AM until 11 AM only Future World attractions (in the front 1/2 of the park) are open. The World Showcase (back half of Epcot) is roped off. From 11 AM until 7 PM ALL of the attractions in FW and WS are open. At 7 PM the attractions in FW (except for possibly the most popular ones) close, but the area remains open to guests. This means that from 11 AM onward you can walk around anywhere in Epcot you'd like. From 7 PM to 9 PM, the only "attractions" open (except as noted above in FW) are the countries in WS. At 9 PM, Illuminations starts in the back 1/2 of the park.

Spaceship Earth is one of the FW attractions that does NOT close at 7pm.

The other FW attractions that stay open every night until IllumiNations begins include Soarin', Mission: Space, Test Track, and (sometimes) The Seas with Nemo and Friends.

Unless you are staying at an Epcot resort. Then WS is the "front" of the park. ;)
Expect Caribbean Beach. Even though it's an Epcot Resort, it is the only one of the Epcot Resorts where the only way to get there is by bus and so those guests do not go by boat threw World Showcase like guests who stay at the Boardwalk, Yacht, Beach Club, Swan and Dolphin.
