How does the rope drop process work if you stay at one of the resorts where you enter from the World Showcase end? Does it put you at a disadvantage to the people entering through the front gates when your goal is to get to Test Track or Soarin'?

It depends. If they let you in at the same exact time you'll likely be at Soarin before the main gate. On the other hand, getting in at the same time, main entrance is faster to TT and FEA.

Also the change that main entrance gets let in slightly before WS entrance. So you might be at a slight disadvantage, but not enough to go out of your way for transportation to the front of the park if it's an easy walk or boat ride to the International Gateway entrance

You are at a disadvantage for sure when heading to TT or Soarin, but only if you plan on being at the front of the tapstiles at the main entrance instead of WS. So if you really want to take full advantage of RD, Uber to the main entrance 1 hour before park opening. I know that's an inconvenience so you have to weigh if this is worth it or if you want to just maybe wait an additional 10-15 mins in line for these attractions by just using WS entrance.

Definitely read that EASYWDW post...He was almost at a disadvantage going to FEA as well. They make you go left to UK instead of right towards France.

That's because WS past France is closed until 11, I believe.

We stayed at Yacht Club recently and did RD at Epcot. We went through the international gateway entrance about 20-25 minutes before opening and they allowed us in. It took about five minutes to walk up into future world. There, we were held with the rest of the crowd by the Character Spot/Fountain area. We then rope dropped Soarin and eased our way through the crowds as the CM led us up to The Land Pavilion. We were in the second group allowed to board. I don't think it puts you at a disadvantage at all. I would just plan to arrive early to get into the area where the hold the people headed to either Soarin or TT

According to EasyWDW it is hit or miss with them allowing IG crowds to enter early. He did mention that he had heard about people being let in early but it was not done when he was there this month.
