Epcot nations

Are the nations in a certain order for a reason? I know the American Adventure is where it is for a reason, but how about the others?

1) Actually, American Adventure wasn't supposed to be where it is.
2) That location was designed to be a huge fountain.
3) The original 1977 plans called for very different countries to be side-by-side.
4) This way the differences were stark and stood out.
6) Plus, the original plans called for 20 countries, and NOT including the USA.

NOTE: Some say that Canada and Mexico were placed because they are immediately next to the USA, but this had no bearing on their placement. As an example, Canada and UK were planned to be approx 90º to each other and there was no pavilion for USA.

NOTE2: Since a pavilion is paid for by folks not associated with Disney, don't look for a new country soon. New countries are estimated at $75-$150 million, not counting the $5-$10 million annual operating costs. As most are aware, only Morocco is sponsored by a country. The others are paid for by private companies and/or tourist bureaus.

Yes, Disney gets sponsorship and participant fees from some of the pavilions. Some of the restaurants are operated by Disney and some are operated by outside companies who, of course, pay Disney for the privilege.

However, it's not accurate to say "The others are paid for by private companies and/or tourist bureaus." Disney tries to make money off each pavilion through some combination of merchandise sales, restaurant sales, sponsorship fees, and rent, in addition to the admission fees the guests pay for entering Epcot. But that doesn't mean that each pavilion is "paid for" -- just as the lands of the Magic Kingdom are not each "paid for" by a private company and/or tourist bureau.

I dont know, a Brazil pavilion with a Carnival theme could be interesting. A Chili/Andes theme could be neat too.

Oh please do not suggest that. That will only attract those Brazilian tour groups. We had the misfortune of running into them AGAIN last week, and, well, let's just say it was a really bad move on our part. Never again! They have these huge, screaming groups of noisy, obnoxious kids {young adults?} that have no respect for anybody or anything. Screaming at the top of their lungs everywhere they went. I actually prefer the cheerleaders to the Brazilians! :scared1::sad2:

Let me cast my vote yet again for the Duchy of Grand Fenwick.

Back to reality, we'll all probably be long gone before they add another country to Epcot. A shame, but evidently there are many obstacles that have prevented it for as long as these rumors have existed.

Yep, you pretty much hit the nail on the head. Disney will NOT be putting in another country anytime soon. All the parks moneys are going to the overseas parks, for the most part.

Wow. Them's strong words.

And I know exactly WHY you say that.. and I have to say that would be my preference too. :)

But if you have ever traveled to Brasil, you will understand why it is such a big deal. Disney World is a once in a lifetime experience for the kids from Brasil. They are enthusiastic and make the most of their trips, I can't blame them for that. Many of the tour guides push them to make all the noise so..... Just my .02

You should be forced to spend the day with them, but you would have to have fun.

I think an India pavilion with a Dell call center inside a replica of the Taj Mahal would be a great fit. They could even have an interactive ride in which you have to attempt to get an actual problem solved without loosing your patience and/or sanity. I suspect there would be a very low success rate.

Oh gee, golly gosh my friend, what do you mean?

I would love an India pavillion, highlighting some of their cultures beauty and food. It is unfortunate people associate India as a negative event with the outsourcing initiative that many companies have choosen to engage in (which, I'm actually not against, either).

That was just meant tongue in cheek. I actually do think India would be the best fit and they are one of the few countries I think would pony up the cash in the current climate.

I really don't think that they are adding any countries to WS in the next 5 years and I would be willing to put a small wager on the next 10 but you never know. Any new pavilion I think would have to have a thrill ride to try and move some of the people into WS from FW and take some of the burden off of Soarin' and Test Track.

So how about a bet of ten "2020" dollars on the ten year country-add. I'll say they add a country (or announce it) and you say they won't.

This is as safe as it gets.. given the likely push on inflation in the next ten years ...
