Epcot - Mexico

Its very average Mexican food. Here in Kansas City I can think of a dozen places that do it better, but the atmosphere is great. Watching the boats go by as you eat in the pyramid/temple is nice. If you haven't been its worth at least one visit.

Having grown up in Southern California and lived in Houston, I would say that the food at San Angel Inn is okay. I don't go to a theme park, even Disney, in search of authentic ethnic cuisine of ANY kind. We find that all of the ethnic cuisine is Americanized to appeal to more visitors. We still eat there because we really enjoy in atmosphere - the Mexico Pavilion in general is probably my favorite. I don't think the food is bad, but then again, I think if you are expecting delicious ethnic cuisine of ANY kind at WDW, you will be extremely disappointed. If you are wanting a real great meal somewhere at WDW there are many other options and we have restaurants that we prefer at Epcot. Go have a few margaritas at La Cava before you ADR time, and you won't care that the food at San Angel Inn is just okay.

Forget the food, it’s nothing special. But, one of my favorite places in all of Epcot is LaCava Del Tequila. It is often overlooked because it’s smaller an tucked away but it has the best drinks in all of WDW. The margaritas are beyond amazing and a must try.
Overlooked with 45 minute waits haha. The lines have been out the pyramid every time I've gone in the past year! :scared:

San Angel Inn - love the atmosphere, its beautiful inside. Not a fan of the food. Some love it. I don't find it to be very authentic or good. Its not a Tex-Mex style or Chi-Chi style. But its also not like the authentic mexican I've had. As others have stated, we have better Mexican around us, so we skip it.
I think the food at La Hacienda is better.
The tequilla bar is amazing.

No, no it's not. Every Mexican restaurant around us serves chimichangas - nothing "original" about them being served at DL.
At DL they serve them as QS around the park. Very different from WDW. I also dont know what “around us” means? Yes plenty of Mexican places across the country serve chimichangas but I have never heard of the the QS chimichangas at WDW the way they are at DL. It’s a Classic snack there which is what the OP was referring to.

so, assuming i'm not looking for authentic mexican/tex-mex, should we go with SAI or La Hacienda? i'm basically looking for something that has straight up, plain quesadillas (for my son) and margaritas that will take the edge off after a long day ;) and whichever has the better food.

we're on the dining plan so cost isn't the issue.

TY!

Both of them will meet those needs, at least. I love the food at La Hacienda (the costillas and carnitas were both delicious, my sister also liked the tacos when she had them). The empanada for dessert is also really good.

We love La Hacienda's Parrillada de Mar for 2--shrimp, fish, scallops, and veggies. Everything on it was good, but the corn was outstanding. We also love La Cava de Tequila. It is a great place to get a margarita or tequila to sip and a snack.
The Del Mar for 2 is one of our absolute favorites in all of WDW. Everything on the platter is delicious! The shrimp and scallops are always huge and the seasonings are perfect!

La Cava is on our list for this October F&W..:drinking1YUMMY, have read great comments about the margaritas!:cheer2:

Mexico is one of our favorite pavilions in Epcot. Last visit to Cava de Tequila was a good 30 minute wait and it was crowded the whole time we were there, but it's still a fun place to go.

DH really enjoyed the Avocado Margarita at La Hacienda. We like the food and the atmosphere. It's romantic at night if you're there when they dim the lights for Illuminations. We were several rows over and didn't have a great view, but having seen Illuminations many times, we didn't care. Enjoying the ambiance with those after dinner margarita's was very nice!

Haven't eaten at San Angel for many years, but also think the atmosphere is lovely there too! I wouldn't hesitate to book at either.

Can someone give me their opinion of Mexico's food? We have really good Mexican were we live. Just seeing if it is really good.

I've always had good meals at San Angel Inn. I've usually opted for the Chicken Enchiladas which is typically on the lunch menu. Haven't been in a while though so not sure if they are still offered.

La Hacienda is one of our favorite restaurants in Epcot. I don't know if I'd call it authentic, but it sure is good food.
