Has ANYONE EVER known Epcot to close early....for any reason?

I ask this question because when I booked the Illuminations Cruise (yeah!) I was told that I should be aware that the reservationists had been told to let us know that there may be a "Media Blitz" for "Space" and there is the possibility that Epcot could close early but our boat would sail even if it did?

Epcot experts......has this EVER been known to happen....????

Did Test Track have a "Media Blitz" and if so what was it?

It closed early once that I know of for some Travel Agent convention. It really wasn't a problem, I headed over to another park for awhile then headed over to Downtown Disney.

This happens very rarely, once a year or less. They might do something like this is early October, since that's the beginning of the fiscal year and they like to do some press announcements during that time, and since Mission: SPACE is supposed to have its official opening on the 9th, it seems reasonable to tie these things together and close to park so that the press gives them better reviews

Things like this are usually announced well in advance though, so there will be plenty of time for you to change your plans should you be affected.

We were at WDW in May of 2001 and one of the days ( I had 2 planned) I had planned to go to Epcot there was and event and they scheduled to close the park at 6:00 or so. They opened up an hour early. It wasn't a big deal for us as I was prepared for it but I know there were people who didn't know about it until they arrived.

When we were there last summer Epcot was actually closed for a full day.. We weren't going to it that day but asked and we were told that it was due to an electrical problem. Go figure!!!

Epcot closes too early every day when FW closes at 6pm now....

Last summer, there was a fire connected to the electrical problem. It was funny since we were in the world at the time and had to learn about it from our family at home. But I do remember a rather cryptic message left on our phone about it being opened again. It took us a day to figure that one out.

They had a fire in one of their power substations that morning and had to shut the park down for the rest of the day. The Caribbean Beach and Beach Club Villas were also affected.
