I had already read on these boards that the living sea was closeing for refurb about 6 weeks ago.

we had planned to do the dolphin experience within the next 2 weeks.i recieved a call from disney yesterday saying it had beeen cancelled!!!.

i really do find it very shabily handled by them.To only advise us under 2 weeks before the experience in my view is shameful.it leaves us very little time to plan elsewhere.

this has left a very sour disney taste in my mouth

I would image that like all buisnesses, that they can only confirm the closure of a particuler thing that far in advance, as many number of factors could put the closing and reopening dates back

Thats a shame Nick N Sara, will pm you

What a shame :(

Can you maybe get into Discovery Cove?? As an alternative?

So sorry for you nick and sara. It is awful when you have planned something a long way out for it to be cancelled like that, especially if you are not sure when you can go back.

Hope it does not spoil the rest of your holiday too much and you have a great time.

Looking forward to hearing all about it (and your flight with TCD!). Where are you staying?

Hi nick n sara - we had our dolphins experience cancelled too - although I had a tip off from someone here on the dis that it was about to happen. I read on another site that the reason they are cancelling some of the tours is that the dolphins are becoming distressed during certain aspects of the renovation work. When I read that I didn't feel quite so bad about it.

You'll have a wonderful time anyway. - And hey it's an excuse to book another DIsney trip :0)

From what I've read they didn't want to cancel the tours (they are still running on certain days during the renovation) and then when they made the decision they had trouble contacting UK guests. I rang them direct in the end to save waiting for the call.

I can see why you are dissapointed, but I expect disney were not sure what was happening themselves and try to leave to the last minute in case they can go ahead. This has happned to me by tour operators I had my holiday cancelled 10 days prior to leaving for the Domican Rep when we had a call from the TA saying it was cancelled due to a hurricane, the hurricane was in Sept and we were going in November. Apparently there was damage at the hotel and it was remaining closed, my thoughts were surely they knew before hand, but she said they wanted to leave it in case it re-opened. Luckily we managed to book Barbados for a reasonable price. I couldnt moan in the end.

Try not to be dissapointed with Disney that they left it so long, as somebody else said the dolphins were getting distressed this is maybe one of the reaons. Have you tried discovery cove? Is it more expensive as well though?

Good luck and try to keep your chin up!

we have already done DC.this was more of a personalm touch as you get 40 minutes with two different dolphins.

we know all about hurricanes we actually landed in dominican republic 36 hours before hurricane george hit 7 years ago.we stayed in the south boca chica which was absoultely flattened.the south of the island is ten times as nice as the north.and the sea is the caribbean which they dont tell u when booking mmmmmmm.the north (porta plata) area is the atlantic.

we have already booked seaworld trainer for a day as its oure wedding anniversary so we do have some solstice.we do feel better now we know the dolphins are getting stressed.we would not want them to get even worse.

:guilty:
