Epcot bakeries--safe for peanut allergy?

Okay I have something to report to those who have young family members with tree nut allergies. See in 2007 my ENTIRE family (13 total) did a trip to the world and as we were going over my birthday I asked for Ohana for my birthday dinner. No problems we got our ADVs in 180 days cause they were doing that far out then and each of the adults in our family (there are 8 adults) called Ohana and asked that due to my niece extreme peanut allergy that they NOT put there peanut sauce on the table, we were insure each and every time that it wouldn't be . Well we show up at the very crowd restaurant waited for our table confirm yet again with the hostess and waitress that there is to be NO peanut sauce brought to the table. Was again insured that there wouldn't be so we are enjoying our dinner passing things family style as more and more dishes were put down around the table, then they start the coconut round up game all the kids ran from the table and at time with our very crowd tabled cleared out of 5 little kids when my sister looks over and lowers her finger into a light brown sauce and yep you guessed it peanut sauce not one bowl, not two bowls BUT THREE bowls were scattered all over the tables some had even been spilled a bit due to be putting down on the table. Needless to stay this caused a HUGE panic in our family as one of the sauces that has spilled were right next to my niece. Which caused a HUGE family argument thank the Gods my niece had managed to avoid getting any on her which is a HUGE relief as she is asmatic allergic to it even if it just touches her skin. Needless to say we called and confirmed that none of the rest of our ADRs had anything peanut in them so as to not have a repeat.
So I would be very very carefully we did everything we could and it still ended up on the table and we thank the Gods everyday that they called the coconut game when they did.

We are planning a trip in early Novembe to DW and we were thinking of going to the Cinderella dinner at 1900. I see its a buffet. Has anyone with peanuts/tree nuts been there. My daughter has the allergy. Thanks.

I am so sorry to hear about your experience! I am happy that they called that coconut game when they did too! Thank you for sharing your story, I will be extra extra vigilant about what comes to our table now.

We ended up canceling our Ohana Reservations, my mom, dad, and sis are coming now, so we are a party of 11. So I had to do a bit of rearranging with ADRs yesterday. We have Chef Mickey, Tusker House (both breakfasts), 1900 Park Fare Dinner, Le Cellier, Teppan Edo, Coral Reef, Whispering Canyon Cafe for dinner.

How do you all feel about buffets? Do you usually ask the Chef to bring out a plate from the kitchen, as there could be cross contamination at the buffets.

Yes we did Tusker House (for bk) and after the scare at O'hana (which was our second night at the World) we simply called ahead and told the restaurant about our niece gave her our ADR time/name/number. They then asked what my niece would like for her bk and gave her plenty of choices to choose from (since she was 4 my sil choose for her but there were like 20+ things that they offered to make for her) so that is what we did for there they brought her plate out in a covered different colored plate (which we later found out was for guest with tree nut allergies (yes they had different colors for the different main allergies) children which let every person see what the allergy was so no one would grab that color plate with tree nuts anywhere or on their hands. i don't know if they still do the colored plates or not.

First I have to say, Disney is very good with allergies, we have been to the world 2 times with DD who has a peanut/tree nut allergy and knock on wood, we haven't had a problem. We are heading back in August for 8 days.

As I have said, we have been there twice, and we are going again in August. Both times the Chef (I think it was the same Chef both times actually) came out and said everything on the children's buffet line was nut free, but I was a little cautious with the dessert items and just gave DD the soft serve ice cream.

Allears has the menu, but it says that PBnJ is served, both times we were there they did not have the PBnJ on the buffet line. We were there in May and that was updated in July, so maybe the menu has changed? It also says a cashew type of salad? Again, that was not there when we went in May 09 or 08.

However, we had a WONDERFUL experience at Chef Mickey's breakfast. The chef made DD a meal in the kitchen, gave her fresh fruits that were not on the buffet line....he was great. After that experience I am now going to ask the Chef's at our buffet meals if they could prepare her something in the kitchen. I should have done that the whole time, you never know someone could use the tongs from a meal that has nuts in it and use it in a nut free meal. I should have been more vigilant and thank God everyday that she was ok.

Make sure when you make your reservations that they note the allergy, and you could also e-mail specialdiets@disneyworld.com. Last year they sent me a form to fill out and that form was sent to each restaurant noting our allergy (the form asks for all your ADRS, the dates, times, confirmation #s and your allergy). The chef from whispering canyon actually came to our table with the form in his hand lol.

Good Luck!

Have you tried the prepacked Divvies? If your kid doesn't like that chocolate chip cookie, I'd just have to venture that she doesn't like chocolate chip cookies. Divvies are soft, delicious and very chocolatey. If you haven't tried them, use Disney as your chance!

Thanks for the information about the buffet and the updated menu. I will definately make a note about the allergies when I make our reservations.

I believe it was another brand she tried and didn't like. It was peanut free but also egg free, milk free, etc., kind of tasteless. She has eaten the Divvies candy and liked it, so I think we will give their cookies and brownies a try and maybe bring some along in case they're not always available at the Disney bakeries.
