Enough !

I don't usually post on any political threads. It's not like anybody on here is going to change my mind who I am going to vote for. So I just avoid them.

You've been keeping up pretty good! LOL!

In a way, the OP's assertion that there will be fences to mend after the election is an encouraging thought. What I've found (not just here online, but even out there IRL) is a general refusal by some to accept that people who hold to different beliefs deserve to exist. I am not as optimistic that such folks will be willing to entertain the idea of mending fences at any time. They seem (pardon the pun) hell-bent on eliminating perspectives different from their own, and it doesn't seem to me that winning or losing an election will change that.

Ravencotygrandma did you ever meet the Monkees? They came through your town on a train a while back.;)

I usually find the back and forth debating somewhat enlightening. I've learned things here about both candidates, good and bad, and have gotten to see different viewpoints from people across the country. I do not like reading the nasty posts by a very select few that bring nothing new to the table, but name calling and school bully tactics. But, I do my best to laugh it off, feel a little sorry for them, and then go about my day. I will never be a McCain fan, but that doesn't mean I can't genuinely like some of his supporters. After all, people are people. We just need to step back and thank all those who've come before us and have fought for us that we have a choice.

Things always seem to turn ugly when major events occur. It has been a pattern since I joined in 2000.

War...Turned ugly
9/11...Turned ugly
Katrina...Turned ugly
Gore/Bush election...still ugly
Bush/Kerry election...Turned ugly
Refillable mugs...Ugly
Smoking in a non smoking room...Ugly
More than 4 to a room....Ugly
Peanuts....Ugly
Conservatives...Ugly
Liberals...Ugly
Breastfeeding in public...Ugly
Saving places for parades...Ugly
Pool hopping...Ugly
Towel Animals...really ugly
SAHM...Ugly
Working Moms...Ugly
Public schools...Ugly
Home schooling...Ugly

Bottom line is that UGLY has been happening on the CB for years. Some of the most brutal threads I've read have been non political.

Whenever you have a large community of humans with strong emotions things are bound to turn nasty. It is unfortunate but true.

I pick and choose what I read and respond to. I come to the DIS for entertainment. When it begins to raise my blood pressure I walk away.

debating is fine but 30 new mean spirited threads a day, , I just stay away

I agree. These threads are not intended to be enlightening debates. Extreme statements are made to evoke a strong response in return. These threads and the people who post them have the sole purpose of stirring the pot.

I can't believe the nastiness that is coming from this election! I do my best to avoid political threads because I don't need to seek out that kind of negativity right now. I wasn't around during the previous election, but the board I used to post on was just as bad.

Keep your chin up, it'll be over soon! Then we can go back to other kinds of debates. ;)

That's why I don't even bother going to ANY of the election threads.
I already hear enough of it on the radio and TV.

Same here. After going on the CB I have learned to grow a tough skin. It is most likely Iron by now.

You must be mistaken. There are no more mean, hateful people here.

thats probably when W is going to do after january.

lets all just keep bumping the non-political threads!!!

maybe they will get the hint.

or post humor on them, they can't stand humor, its like anti-matter too them!!

I happen to enjoy the back and forth, and find very little of it hateful....some of it is, but that is america. We should all celebrate the fact that we are all here participating in the process. I think some of the indignation is easily solved by not paying attention!!

I have to agree. Any nastiness from anybody, I just attribute to their passion. Yes, we have a few that have gone over the top (I got points for calling someone from "my" side out - but they were well deserved points), but they are from both sides and luckily few and far between.

And actually, I am thrilled to see everybody so passionate about this race. It is an important one. I am glad both sides are fired up and ready to go to the polls. I would be much more disturbed if in this time of turmoil, everyone was being indifferent about this election.

I also am loving all the political threads. It is the ultimate clearing house. If anything happens in the political world, you can be sure that somebody on the CB has posted a link to it.

I can get up in the morning, get my coffee and without trying, find links to every legitimate and not so legitimate story that broke the past few hours. I don't have to do any work. Just come to the CB and I can find anything and everything. It is the ultimate political google page right now :goodvibes

And sometimes, the CB has the links up before the MSM does. :rotfl2:

True, but then again, most of the OP's of those threads are staffers and political workers for the various parties, and are assigned to "get the message out"

You forgot though
September - It is two weeks into the school year and my Gifted Child is not (fill in the blank).

You are so right though, after the elections, the sniping will go back to the teachers, the neighbors, the co-workers and the inlaws.

I don't know who the OP's are, but I personally enjoy reading everything I can from the far left, far right and everything in between. from legitimate news accounts to ridiculous blogs. And if the OP's are supposed to get the message out, then so be it. I'm lazy. And you got to admit, with everybody's different opinion, the CB is the least skewed place to go. You get everybody's opinion. :rotfl:
