Endometrial biopsy UPDATE with good results. :)

I had one done a few weeks ago, and kept getting warned it was going to hurt. The doctor made me take a lot of motrin before coming in. She ended up taking maybe 5 or 6 samples, and it was only that last one that was a little uncomfortable. As for results, it was maybe a week or so? Anyway, mine were inconclusive, so that's why I'm up before 5am today. I'm going in for a D&C and hysterscopy, so nothing to eat or drink after 5am. (Going to get a big glass of water and go back to bed!)

I've had several done so I know to take pain killers--- so why did I forget this last time.

Usually it feels like really bad cramps. The last couple of times I had a sympathetic dr who gave me a shot of liticane (sp?) to block the pain-- not this last time.

I have to have anesthetia with my d&c's so that is worse for me than the pain. It makes me super nauseaus so I don't think of the pain.

I've had it done twice. The first one was bad but not horrible. The second one, I think the doctor was going for a specific location instead of just a sample from anywhere, and after that one, I decided that if anyone wanted to see what was happening inside of my uterus again, they could just slice the dang thing out.

I've been avoiding this thread all evening because I thought you were gonna ask IF it's painful and I didn't wanna be that honest with you and scare the bejeesus out of you.

To all those doctors and others who don't think it's a painful proceedure who on earth told them it WASN'T???? I wasn't warned and was quite surprised at how much it hurt......I'm sorry for any woman who has to go through these without pain meds.The results of my tests were back in about a week. I believe it was one of the tests that still gets sent out and isn't done *in house* so that's why it took longer to come back.

Hope your results are normal!

I totally agree! I wasn't warned either and feel I have a pretty high tolerance to pain. I actually screamed out in pain during the procedure which I have NEVER done in my life. I wish my doctor had warned me so I could have taken some pain medication as a preventive measure. The cramping afterwards was nothing compared to the pain during the procedure.

I also found out my results about one week later.

I've had two as well, the most recent about a month ago. The first one, the appointment was specifically made for it, so I had a chance to take some Aleve and prepare my brain for it. There was pinching and a little lamaze breathing, but that was it.

This last one, I went in for an office visit and he decided he needed to do both endometrial and cervical biopsies right then. Ummmmm. I had like 2 minutes to get into the "zone". Again with the lamaze breathing (told him I'd used it more for 2 biopsies than I had delivering 4 children ). This last one, there was a fibroid partially blocking the cervix, so yeah, a wee bit more pain, but to be honest, I've given birth to two 9.5 lbers with little to no anesthesia, so it's hard to top that pain-wise. The worst for me was the cramping afterward, but that stopped after a few hours.

I'll be having an ablation in June, but that will involve general anesthesia.

I cried when I got home! And let me tell you, I am not a crier, in any way shape or form. But the stress of it and everything. I just felt sorry for myself.

I had the holy trinity all at once: a hysteroscopy, several biopsies and a D&C. Let me tell you, those biopsies HURT. While we are at it, the D&C hurt too. Most of it was all for nothing too because I had some cysts blocking the cervix which complicated things. It is not something I want to repeat anytime soon.

I would definitely take some Advil or Aleve first if I had to do it again.

Worst pain I have ever had from a medical procedure other than full blown surgery, I kid you not.

What made it even worse is the crazy gyn that did it kept insisting "it will only feel like a tiny pinch."

Honestly, I was so traumatized by this event (I blame it mostly on poor prep by the doctor) that when it came time for me to have an HSG years later I needed TWO valium just to get my bp down enough to do the procedure...and it ended up being a breeze!

I had one last week and 99% of it didn't feel any different than a pap. But that 1%..............

The pain went all the way up to my teeth! It was horrible. I didn't realize I had dug my nails into DH's hand. Poor guy!

I had cramping the rest of the day. It wasn't as bad as a really painful period but it wasn't mild either. I also had a lot of bleeding. I was under the impression there would be spotting but I had a lot more than that. Thankfully, the cramping and bleeding were completely gone by the next day.

One thing I really like about this doctor is she said she makes everyone come in for the results. She said there is nothing worse than getting that call that says, "the doctor needs to see you and we can't get you in for a week." I would freak if I got that call.

I've had them twice. The first time it was planned and I was a nervous wreck. It really hurt. The second time I was there for my annual exam and she decided to do it right there. Since I didn't have time to get nervous, it wasn't as bad.

Yep. Can't say I will ever do THAT again! If there is a next time, I want to be put completely out!

I had it done too. The stress and anxiety was worse than the procedure. The cramping after was worse than the procedure. I also told my doctor that should be done with DRUGS! Ridiculous to suffer because its a quick procedure. Yeah - quick for them! Had a hysterectomy following that so at least I wont be having another!

I have to say I am getting tired of my male doctor - he is just clueless how anything could possibly feel. I don't even care how good he is.

I had one and it wasn't too bad. However, I have a very high pain tolerance levels - my first experience of childbirth was completely drug free and involved a forceps delivery. The consultant kept asking me afterwards whether I was "traumatised" by it. The biopsy was pretty quick - longer and more painful was having my cervix manually dilated a year later to have an IUD inserted.

I have a high pain tolerance and went through a mulititude of test when determining the cause of my infertility, I will say this was the worst test I had

Test results came back normal! Still waiting for the blood test results, but she thinks it may just be hormonal. She gave me some info on getting a uterine ablation, so it's something I'll think about and see what it involves.

Had my ablation done 7 years ago.....haven't had a period since best decision I ever made!

I had an ablation done in November no periods since then. It's wonderful!
