if you have star wars fans in your family, definitely do it. if not, try to see if there are any reservations available for the Wishes Firework Dessert Party, but don't count on it since it is very hard to get a reservation for.
The Star Wars Dessert Party was definitely my favorite dessert party. The only one I would consider similar was the Illuminations one which is a bit cheaper. The food offerings were fine but not as good and the alcoholic beverages offered are a bit more limited too. I would not do the Wishes one again. I did it once a few months after they first offered it and then again the next year. While there was a lot of desserts to choose from I found the Tomorrowland Terrace location to be one of the worst views of the fireworks and back when I did it they encouraged everyone to go to the railing to watch so those who had the front tables couldn't see the fireworks unless they got up to go to the railing. So if you wanted to enjoy your desserts at your table you ended up behind people who hogged the railing as soon as they entered the dessert party. I don't think the Wishes one is worth the price.
If you want to do StarWars Fireworks for your last night, make your own dessert party and save the costs Disney charges. That's what we did last winter for the Osborne Lights. They had a dessert party there. Instead of paying the fortune it would have cost for the 5 of us to sit at one of their tables, we bought a dessert from the endless places that sell ice cream, cookies, whatever in HS. And while it's crowded, it's not Main Street during Wishes crowded. So we found a great place to stop and sit, relax and eat our dessert while taking in the Osborne lights. You can do the same for Star Wars. Buy or bring your own dessert and you will have no problem finding a good spot to enjoy it while watching the show with a great view.
DH and I are ending my birthday trip this way! We saw the previous fireworks show at Easter, and loved it. We are SOOOO looking forward to the new show! And having snacks and drinks inside (instead of in the July heat) makes the cost well worth it for us.

I agree with you for Osborne Lights - that attraction was so spread out and designed to be enjoyed from so many vantage points, seeing it from one location would be a disadvantage to me. But postings for this new SW show focus again and again on how critical location is to experiencing it as designed. It seems if you can't see the projections well, you're missing a major part of the show. And that only a relatively small area yields that good vantage point.
I'm stealing this idea. I simply can't bring myself to spend $70 for a cupcake to watch a show I already paid for with my ticket. I am going to steal this idea and grab a dessert and beverage (where available) and bring with me to each night's thing and make my own.
And I can't bring myself to spend 90 minutes or longer of expensive "Disney time" sitting waiting for a 13 minute show/fireworks. For our family, we didn't see Wishes from Main Street until about our 5th trip; we simply weren't willing to sit that long, even though I love fireworks! It wasn't until we got lucky enough that a late afternoon thunderstorm and following intermittent showers cleared most folks out of the park, and we could get a Main Street view with only about 20 minutes of wait.
Spending extra for a party is a treat; this will be our third time in more than 15 trips. It can be a very special way to end a vacation!

Yeah, for Osborne, it was kind of funny. We were sitting a matter of 10 feet or so from the dessert party and spent maybe $35 for all 5 of us to have our dessert.
The way the Star Wars show is set up, it's really hard to see all of the projections no matter where you are. If you're sitting where the dessert party is, the projection on the far right is at a tough angle. The first time we saw the show, we were standing awful close to the party. The second time we saw it, we were on the other side...the right as you're facing the theatre. From there, we had a great view of most of the projections and could still see the other ones. I don't have anything against the dinner party, and if money were no object, I'd do one in a heartbeat. But for me, no matter how much I water it, the darn money tree never seems to grow. For our kids, sitting with an ice cream in their hands watching fireworks makes them really happy, they don't really care where we sit.
