For the next couple years a spectacular movie gross will be in the $300 million range. The majority of movies will be much less. Much less.It appears the Rock's two previous films made over $300 million each on opening weekends, but that WAS before the pandemic.
This is it for us, exactly. With 4 kids and only 3 vaccinated, it definitely plays a part in our decision. But since we have a projector & screen at home, it’s much easier & cheaper to just pay the premium and watch it from the comfort of our home.Family movies, especially where kids under age 12 would love to attend, shouldn't be expected to do well at the box office before the kids have a chance to be vaccinated.
Clifford, the Big Red Dog movie (Paramount, not Disney) was supposed to be released next month, but that's been postponed because of the virus.
DD has three kids under age 12 and it's just simpler to watch movies on their big-screen t.v. at home, and not just because of the virus. Paying the premium for Disney Plus is so much cheaper for a family of 5, especially when you factor in the snacks.
What will go away with time? Straight to streaming? I don’t think so. I think it’s here to stay. It’s something the companies have been wanting to do for well over a decade. This is it for us, exactly. With 4 kids and only 3 vaccinated, it definitely plays a part in our decision. DD17 has a group of (vaccinated) friends coming over on Friday to watch the new Suicide Squad (HBO Max). It’s much easier & affordable for them.
I’m sure it’s something that will go away with time, but for now we’re really enjoying it
I did get Indy and Pirates vibes but it’s a movie about The Jungle Cruise. I don’t think we’re supposed to take it that seriously. The jokes are supposed to be forced/corny/ridiculous.I found this movie to be a hot mess. You had characters from the 1500's that came to life (like the Original Pirates of the Carribean with living dead pirates), looking for a treasure of a magic tree (Indiana Jones), with a comical German with visions of world dominination (accept rather than WWll it is set during WWI), and throw in a bunch of forced jokes from the Jungle Cruise Ride. Did I mention the Skipper is 400 years old? This is from someone who mostly likes all movies that are Disney. As I said in the beginning, a real hot mess.
If it continues to hurt their bottom line, yes I think it’s limited. Disney may still do it because they’re charging a premium, but it’s included with HBO Max. That I don’t see sticking around. What will go away with time? Straight to streaming? I don’t think so. I think it’s here to stay. HBO Max is desperate to get subscribers. Really desperate. It’s why they’re doing it to hook people in and then they’ll start charging. It’s exactly what Disney did. We’ll have to see but I don’t think there’s any going back. That genie is out of the bottle. If it continues to hurt their bottom line, yes I think it’s limited. Well I’ll be thrilled if it doesn’t! I’ve gotten very used to being able to watch in my sweats, with a glass of wine and being able to pause if I need to use the bathroomHBO Max is desperate to get subscribers. Really desperate. That’s what I’m saying. People are going to be used to it and won’t want to go back. Who knows? I’m personally done with theaters.Well I’ll be thrilled if it doesn’t! Jungle Cruise made $90+ million opening weekend. Over $30+ million with Disney+. $27.6 million internationally. $34.1 million in theaters. Jungle Cruise makes dream voyage to No. 1 at the weekend box office (yahoo.com)
To be honest given our Black Widow experience in theaters and Jungle Cruise streaming, we're going streaming from now on.
BTW was that Metallica Nothing Else Matters I heard in the movie? It was a moving version.
We saw this at the drive-in. When that seen appeared, I said to my wife, "We are not a codfish." She laughed.Yes it did. It was funny. There was quite a few Easter Eggs in the movie. Thought little girl with her mouth open and was told to close her mouth was a nod to Mary Poppins.
