The sad news that AIRFIX has gone bust alonmg with its parent company Humbrol is the end of an era of us guys who were young before the advent of computer screens, and a whole generation of aircraft nuts was formed from putting together those equisit models

Bye bye old friend :-(

Well I may not fit the 'older lad' category, but I understand your sentiments! ;)

Airfix kits are up there with trifle for Sunday tea and 'Sing Something Simple' on the wireless in our family :teeth:

My 10 year-old nephew still loves Airfix.

Maybe not quite the end. Humbrol, the parent company, has gone into administration. There are rumours (and only slim rumours) that another company will buy the Airfix brand. Remember, Airfix also went into administration in the early 80s, when they were bought up by Humbrol.

I've read that Hornby may take over Humbrol/Airfix.

It would be a shame if this is the end of Airfix models - I must admit I a kit for Christmas a few years ago (Lancaster, Spitfire. Hurricane set) and spent a very enjoyable Christmas holiday making the models :)

I made my first and only model at age of 36, I had to spend my childhood jealously watching my brother make them. Why my parents never got me one I don't know.
