"ENCHANTED TALES with ROB" - A Birthday/Christmas DISer Celebration! **NEW TR LINK**

"IT'S THE SPIRIT OF THE SEASON, YOU CAN FEEL IT IN THE AIR."
Day 8 – December 10, 2013 Part 2

Despite my unbelievably official looking documentation confirming my FP’s, I decided a little backup to the backup couldn’t hurt.
I found a FP+ CM just out roaming, so I asked him to bring up my ressies and took a photo of his screen.
Which resulted in a photo of me taking a photo of his screen so... cool beans.

18.jpg

At least it was something since I can’t add the app to my phone because they don’t make it for Blackberry.

I headed towards the Emporium to pick up a couple of things, passing the Piano Man on the way.

19.jpg

While inside, I somehow ended up in a conversation with a CM originally from Germany, but living stateside for 30+ years.

Our discussion turned to a recent (at the time) article in an Orlando area paper (perhaps the Sentinel, but I’m not sure).
I haven’t seen the article, but it had something to do with wages and workers and whatnot.
The main theme was that it wasn’t too kind to how Disney treats its employees.
Again, I in no way know the details, so I can’t comment either way.

What I really found fascinating though was Disney’s response to the article which came earlier that very day.

And what was that response?

Disney management dug down deep and presented each and every Cast Member that morning with his or her very own…

Bag of chips.

Yup… A bag of chips.

I sort of jokingly stated that I personally would prefer no response than to be given a bag of chips,
As I would find that somewhat insulting.

She agreed.

We continued to discuss the subject and talked about how these kinds of things would never have happened under Walt’s watch.
She wasn’t concerned so much for herself as she was retired, but she did really feel for many others who are not so fortunate.
She didn’t NEED to be there… She WANTED to be there.

I just had to tell her that it’s Disney CM’s, just like her, that truly make Walt Disney World special.
Yes, the theming is off the charts, top notch ride experiences, unbelievable and magical shows, etc,
But it’s the CM’s, the ones in the stores and on the streets and in the shows that make Disney… DISNEY!

Her expression changed as a HUGE smile cascaded across her face and she reached out for a big hug which I was more than happy to reciprocate.
I could tell she was touched, but I was just telling her what I felt, and what I felt was the truth.

20.jpg

If you find yourself in the Emporium, take a second to say hello to Verena.

I bid farewell to my new friend, picked up a few purchases that I dropped off in my locker, and headed back down Main Street.
I was getting a bit weak, so I decided food was next on the list, and en route I noticed some filming going on, so I took a photo.

21.jpg

If anyone knows who she is… Holla!

My lunch today was here.

22.jpg

23.jpg

After lunch, I had a FP to use (no it didn’t turn green, but I didn’t need to haul out my special FP documentation either), so…

24.jpg

25.jpg

29.jpg

Yeah, I just can't ever seem to get in sync with the rest of my ride mates.

I blame them.

As I was wandering through Frontierland, I got a text from Carrie that they were back and had just gotten some Orange Bird.
So I short-cutted through the connector by Country Bears and met up with them.

Before arriving here they had stopped to visit a certain mouse and I have to include the photos because of Mickey’s reaction to Santa Duffy.

30.jpg

31.jpg

He does love his bear, but thankfully he gave him back to Riley after the photoshoot.
I would hate to have to throw down with the Main Mouse... But I woulda!

Since we’re on the subject of bears, we made the decision to see Country Bears since it was right nearby.
Of course this prompted me to go on and on (and on and on) about my deep seeded love of Big Al.

32.jpg

While Carrie and I sat on a bench and waited, I thought Riley had gone off to explore the room.
But when she returned, she presented me with this.

33.jpg

A BIG AL CRUSHED PENNY!!!

Seriously, is it any wonder why I adore this kid? She totally gets me.

On a side note, Disney’s Limited Time Magic for the week was “Secret Santa”,
Which offered uniquely themed autograph cards at every single character meet-and-greet throughout the park

So they made sure to pick up some extras for me which is just way so sweet of them.

33a.jpg

33b.jpg

33c.jpg

The Country Bear Jamboree, of course, was fabulous.

34.jpg

One of the original benefits of this DISmeet was it provided a wonderful excuse for me to finally see Enchanted Tales with Belle.
That isn’t to say I wouldn’t go otherwise, but this just seemed like an attraction that begged to have a kid included in the party.

Since Carrie was bringing Riley on the trip, I had suggested getting FP+ for this a few months prior.
Initially, this was going to be where we would meet for the first time, pretty much just to do this attraction.

Little did I know then that not only would I be sharing this attraction, but I would be sharing much more time as well,
And having such a wonderfully fun time.

On the way to Enchanted Tales, we stopped at the Tangled Tinkle Spot and went on a Pascal hunt.

36.jpg

37.jpg

38.jpg

Unfortunately, our FP time was in full effect, so it was time to move on before we could search some more.

Now, a lot of kids may not be so quick to move on knowing that there were many more Pascals to find.
But Riley made a proclamation that since we had all found one each, it was the perfect time to move on.

Seriously… I adore this kid.

TO BE CONTINUED…

Disney fries are my favorite...so, naturally, after seeing your lunch picture, I am seriously craving some right now!!

Verena sounded super sweet -- love that! :thumbsup2

Love that Splash Mountain photo! You always outdo yourself!

Interesting conversation with the CM. She sounds like a sweetie!

I'm a pretty big Country Bear Jamboree fan. I just wish more of my family would share the love.

Tangled Tinkle Spot!! :rotfl2: Love that. Of course my first comment is about potty stuff.

Wow! Really, a bag of chips? I wonder if they had a hard time not busting out laughing. I mean if it was a big 'ol bag of chips like what Disney so generously provided for the Illuminations cruise I could see that but one wee bag? Not so much.

How nice to take the time to talk to Verena and give a shout out to her. You may just make her as popular as Barb on Main Street with your CM endorsement. It could happen.

BTW, you eat your hot dog just like me... mustard only. Thought that was important to mention since we totally live in different countries and yet enjoy our dogs exactly the same.

That photo of Riley and Mickey with Duffy is adorable. I love the smile on her face.

I obviously don't pay attention since we had one of those "secret Santa" cards and I couldn't remember why we had one. Of course I kept it since it is sacred since it's Disney related you know!

At least it was something since I can’t add the app to my phone because they don’t make it for Blackberry.

Disney management dug down deep and presented each and every Cast Member that morning with his or her very own…

Bag of chips.

Yup… A bag of chips.

I feel your phone pain! I can't get the app for my Windows phone, either.

Now there is absolute proof that working for Disney is "All that AND a bag of chips"

Really sweet update! Love the pictures with Mickey Mouse and his reaction to Duffy. How cute is he holding the bear?!?

Love your gifts/souvenirs- the signature cards are awesome and the pressed penny was so thoughtful! Goes to show you don't have to drop a ton of money to get some meaningful reminders of a wonderful trip.

As someone who will not have the opportunity to experience ETwB anytime soon, I look forward to seeing it through your eyes with your friends.

:goodvibes

Wow! How exciting that you have a trip to Niagra Falls planned and get to meet up with Carrie and family!! That's awesome, sounds like so much fun!

I don't understand why you thought you had to get more proof of your FP+. You already had that incredibly official paper!
I'd say most of the cms are there more because they want to than for any big money, but I still understand the concern. A bag of chips? That's a bit like tipping a penny at a restaurant. Yikes. A great cm interaction though, Verena sounds lovely and I'll have to watch for her next time!
Love mickeys reaction to Duffy, that's so cute. Very thoughtful of Riley to go get you that pressed penny!
You guys found three Pascals? Awesome, that's two more than I found! :rotfl:

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

Verena sounds like a wonderful CM! Will definitely have to keep my eye out for her the next time I'm in the Emporium.
But wow, a bag of chips? Let's see, better wages...bag of chips? Better wages...bag of chips? :rotfl2::lmao: (Although, I have heard they are considering moving the starting wage up now, but still, chips are sort of insulting.)

Glad you were able to see Country Bears with the girls and get the opportunity to share your love of Big Al. I seriously need to venture into the show with Landon one day.

Pascal hunting! Fun! And that was brilliant logic on Riley's part. One smart girl right there.

BTW, you eat your hot dog just like me... mustard only. Thought that was important to mention since we totally live in different countries and yet enjoy our dogs exactly the same.

Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one who wanted to point out the hot dog situation. :rotfl2: I, too, like Brenda, only put mustard on my hot dogs.
Important info right there....:lmao:

I definitely think I've seen Verena before! Glad you had such a lovely conversation with her :goodvibes

YAY Mickey & Santa Duffy :)

Of course you had to go see Big Al! So sweet of Riley to get you that pressed penny! And I love the autograph cards they picked up for you.

Sounds like a wonderful interaction with that CM, I need to do that more often!

MMMMMMMM Casey's!! Why does it have to be 2 hours yet till lunchtime. :confused3

I got that Big Al pressed penny when I was there last year! I cannot wait to meet him at the Christmas Party this year!

Cant' wait to hear what you thought of ETWB.

Verena is precious!!!

I agree totally about Disney being so magical bc of the CM's... Sure the rides are breathtaking, everything practically perfect but it's the CM's that really make your experience.

We are about 40 min away from the mouse right now! Eeekkkk

Aw. What a sweet kid, for real! Love the pressed penny! :goodvibes

Can't wait to hear what you thought of Enchanted Tales with Belle! And three cheers for the CMs - they really do make or break a trip!

I love how easily you meet people and engage them and how they seem to always enhance your trip!

Aw, the pressed penny was so thoughtful of Riley

The CMs really do make the Disney experience for me. I've had so many wonderful experiences with CMs that make up some of my strongest Disney memories. I just hope I'll get to join their ranks one day!

SPLASH <3 I enjoy your pose even though the rest of your boat missed the memo.

 Riley got you a Big Al penny! Your favorite!!! TEARS. And I am so jealous you got those autograph cards. They look amazing!

So excited to hear about ETWB. I love it, but I'm biased because Belle's my fave.

Disney fries are my favorite...so, naturally, after seeing your lunch picture, I am seriously craving some right now!!

Verena sounded super sweet -- love that! :thumbsup2

Haha sorry about that Julie. This was my very first Casey's meal, so I needed a picture for sure.

OMG she so was. Just what a CM should be. And the fact that she was there simply because she loved it... you can't say much more than that.

Love that Splash Mountain photo! You always outdo yourself!

Interesting conversation with the CM. She sounds like a sweetie!

I'm a pretty big Country Bear Jamboree fan. I just wish more of my family would share the love.

Aww thanks Annie. I try. Now if only everyone else would fall in line.

She was so sweet and I loved chatting with her. But wait... I have a CM conversation coming up soon that will blow your mind (or at least it did mine).

This is my sentimental favourite, hands down. So many precious memories in there.

I obviously don't pay attention since we had one of those "secret Santa" cards and I couldn't remember why we had one. Of course I kept it since it is sacred since it's Disney related you know!

Haha, well of course Brenda. Bathrooms are my calling card!!

Yup... a bag of chips. I found it so sad and yet so funny at the same time. Honestly, I can't even imagine what my reaction would have been. That's right!!! I ended up with more chips than a Disney CM!!! Just one of those bizarre tales from a Disney CM. And, as mentioned above, just wait until my next CM convo. Dum Dum DUMMMMMM!!!!

Brenda, she was so nice. She deserved a shout out. I loved talking with her and hearing a bit about her history, and her love of working in MK. It was just so sweet. If I can get her anywhere near Barb level, that would be awesome!!! I hope people do stop at the emporium and say hi.

Ooooh, I have a confession to make... there is ketchup on it if you look really close. Now I feel like I let you down. :( We can still be friends... right? :flower3:

I loved that photo when I saw it. When I saw Mickey's reaction to Duffy I just had to include the photo. It was just way to precious.

Truth be told, I didn't know anything about it until they started handing me a bunch. It was so sweet that they got extras for me though. They are sacred.

I feel your phone pain! I can't get the app for my Windows phone, either.

We're out on the fringe Dee!!! I can't really complain since my phone is bought and paid for by the company. Still, it would be nice to be included, lol.

:rotfl2: That is awesome!! Touche!

Thanks Dee. I fell in love with that photo the second I saw it. The reactions are perfect. He does love that bear.

The sig cards were a neat surprise for sure. AND OMG the pressed penny. This will sound like I'm lying, but I swear it's my truth. Give me a choice between something expensive but with no meaning, or something cheap but with meaning, and I will choose the cheap one every time. The thought behind that pressed penny was simply priceless.

I'll do my best, but I imagine there are much better summations out there than mine, lol.

I think WOW is a good word too Wendy. A summer trip coming solely as a result of a DISmeet. That's pretty special.

Haha, well, you can never have too much backup, lol.
You know, it's so hard to say. With over 65 thousand employees, there's bound to be more than a few who are there for a job and nothing more. But my experience with CM's has been so positive that I like to think they're there because they want to be. I know I would. The bag of chips was just so unreal. It is like tipping a penny. Verena was absolutely lovely and a perfect example of what a CM is.
Isn't that precious???? I loved seeing that. And the pressed penny is one of my absolute favourite souvenirs of Disney... ever. It really meant a lot to me.
Yup, one a piece. So, about the same as you really. But as Riley pointed out, it was perfect since it was all equal.

Important info right there....:lmao:

She was. Yes, please do keep and eye out for her Alica. It would be so comical if people kept coming up to her, lol. And I have a feeling she would LOVE Landon ('cuz seriously, how could she not.) I just couldn't believe the thought process around that. I have heard as well about a change in wages, so that's good I think. But yeah... chips... kinda insulting.

Visiting Big Al was completely necessary. Carrie had seen it, but it was Riley's first time so that was extra fun. I think Landon would love it.

I wish we had more time because I need to find them all. And seriously brilliant, and extremely mature, logic from Miss Riley.

Oohhh.... Ahhhh.... Geeee... Embarrassing... See post to Brenda above....

Oh that is so cool Alexis!!! She really was lovely and really does enjoy her job.

Seriously, how cute is that?????? I love that photo. He was so excited!!!

Oh Yeah! That kid just surprised me constantly. That 51 cent penny is absolutely priceless to me. I liked the cards too. I wish I'd known about it beforehand.

She was awesome. There really is so much to be gained and learned from them. I highly recommend it. It's one of the main things I remember from trips.

My FIRST Casey's too. Arggg, now I want a hot dog!

My favourite penny of all. Kind of funny too since we no longer even use pennies in Canada. But meeting him in person is so very wonderful. Hopefully he'll return this year.

Coming up next!!

Verena is precious!!!

I agree totally about Disney being so magical bc of the CM's... Sure the rides are breathtaking, everything practically perfect but it's the CM's that really make your experience.

We are about 40 min away from the mouse right now! Eeekkkk

She was Marcie. I loved chatting with her.

It absolutely is. The CM's are what has always been the Disney difference. I feel so lucky that the vast majority I've met or encountered have been fantastic. I don't know that Disney would feel as special if not for them.

AHHHHHHH!!!!!!! HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And don't forget... POP PICTURE!!!!!!! ;)

Aw. What a sweet kid, for real! Love the pressed penny! :goodvibes

Can't wait to hear what you thought of Enchanted Tales with Belle! And three cheers for the CMs - they really do make or break a trip!

Amazing kid, without a doubt Dani. I love that penny so much.

That's up next. And yes yes yes, cheers for the CM's. :cheer2:

I love how easily you meet people and engage them and how they seem to always enhance your trip!

Aw, the pressed penny was so thoughtful of Riley

Thanks Phil. Strangely, I'm actually a pretty shy person. But Disney really brings out the closet extrovert I think. But they really do enhance my trip, no doubt.

I was blown away by that honestly. Just such a thoughtful gesture. It meant (and still does) a whole lot to me.

They sure do. They are the difference maker. Some of my fondest memories are the result of those interactions. AHHHH I hope to see you as a CM one day Courtney!!!

Aww thanks. Seriously, why can't the others ever pay attention????

OMG Courtney, I died!!! Something so simple and yet it just meant the world. Right up there with my Rainbow Loom bracelet. Aren't those cards cool?? I wish I'd known about them beforehand.

That is coming up!

Your ride picture from Splash is too freaking funny! Are you trying a selfie. :rotfl2:

Love the Big Al pressed penny. That is really cool.

I'm glad you got to see Belle because, you're right, that attraction does scream for a kid.

Awwwww - your picture with the CM, Verana? was so sweet. Love it! I got all misty reading your story.

What an awesome little mini trip... and such a great reason for it!!!! And Niagara Falls is THE BEST. I can spend hours there, just listening to the rushing water and trying to get the perfect picture of a rainbow!!! For it being so close to me, it's pathetic that I don't go more often since I love nature. We will be needing Maid of the Mist pictures of all of you! (Not sure if that's what it's called on the Canadian side...)

I think I saw someone else mention it, but there is a really cool butterfly observatory right outside the Falls on the Canadian side.

Cool story that is slightly off-topic, but not really. Clear as mud? Anyway, at nighttime they light up the Falls. I'm not sure if this is a daily thing or not... but what I do know is that you can request them to light it a special color in honor/to raise awareness/etc of a specific charitable organization. My former boss is involved with an MS organization because her dad has it and one day a couple months back she sent me an article about how they worked their magic to get the Falls lit orange for MS awareness :goodvibes Unfortunately, I had other plans that day and didn't actually get to see it, but just thinking about it is so cool.

Knowing how much you like the Castle illumination, I figured you'd appreciate that!

Back to Disney... I love Mickey's reaction to Riley and Santa Duffy! That is just precious.

And here's my rose-colored-glasses take on the bag of chips situation. First of all, I love chips. So I wouldn't turn them down. *grin* BUT... maybe something got lost in translation somewhere and message they were trying to give was something along the lines of "we think you're all that... and a bag of chips", which I think is a great saying! Because, again, I never met a potato chip I didn't like! ;) Maybe it was supposed to be symbolic like that? Because I know that's how I feel about the CMs! And even more so after reading this thread, which I discovered the other day and am still working my through.

Or maybe my parents just should have named me Pollyanna :rotfl:

Those Secret Santa cards are adorable and I love that Riley made you a Big Al penny! What a great friendship :goodvibes

I love the secret santa cards.

I may make some.

I thought they were great too and was so touched they thought to get me some.

Haha, thanks Mary Ellen. Splash just beckons for a pose. Nope, I actually wasn't trying a selfie, but I think I will now.

Oh me too. I was so touched she did that for me.

I'm sure I would go to it at some point, but this situation presented itself, so it just fit perfectly.

Aww gee thank you. She was truly lovely and a perfect example of what a CM is to me. I love talking with CM's plain and simple. Their stories are so amazing. And speaking of CM stories... just wait.

What an awesome little mini trip... and such a great reason for it!!!! And Niagara Falls is THE BEST. I really can't wait to see the Falls Sue. It's something I've always wanted to do. To be honest, I have absolutely no game plan at all. My only real plan is to see everyone. Everything else is gravy. But I would like to do one of the attractions (Maid of the Mist, etc.), but as of this moment, I have nothing planned.

That's something I think I'd like, so I may have to check that out.

Yes, I have seen photos of the colourful falls at night. That is pretty spectacular. I hope I get to see something like that. I also understand they do fireworks too. And from what I can tell, the night of my arrival is fireworks night!!!!

Oh yeah, I LOVE the thought of that.

Those photos were just so darn precious, I just had to include them.

You may be right. I too like to look and find the positive. But this one just seemed... an odd choice. Even if you do love chips, lol. Honestly, I have no idea what the mindset was. I'm sure it was a gesture of good faith. But... still odd. That said, I do love me some CM's. I LOVE the idea behind that thread. Thank you for sharing. CM stories are some of my favourite things in Disney, no doubt. It's the little things that mean the most.

Case in point Pollyanna ;)... A Big Al pressed penny. Not big, not expensive, but something I will cherish forever.
