Cast: Me (Emma), 18; Lucy (sister), 15; Mum & Dad!

Note: I've had to put it in two parts because apparentely I have too many pictures! Click on the small pictures to view the full version. :)

We had our first Good Morning Fantasyland Breakfast booked for today and were in the park by 9.15. On our way up Main Street we decided that it would be better to make use of the extra ride time rather than waste time getting our breakfast at Au Chalet de la Marionnette, which would undoubtedly be really crowded!

We stopped off at the Cable Car Bake Shop to buy pains au chocolat and hot chocolate/coffee. The shop looked a bit dead and not very open at all, but with a quick "A quelle heure ouvrez-vous?" we found out that we were just the first customers of the day!! This really is one of Disneyland's best kept secrets at that time of day.

We didn't leave the Bake Shop until gone half 9, at which point it was drizzling, and Lucy doesn't have a waterproof coat. There was, of course, only one solution - one of Disney's renowned yellow ponchos! Woo!
After this we thought we might as well join the crowds for rope drop, so we never went into Fantasyland in the end. Mum and I waited at the "secret" side entrance to Frontierland while Lucy and Dad went to see if they could get Fastpasses for Peter Pan's Flight. As it turned out, you can't get them before the park opens!

So we went into Frontierland at rope drop, as planned.

I just love seeing everybody run up to Big Thunder Mountain, and kids dragging their parents along, who end up running anyway! We even saw some people running towards Phantom Manor, which was unusual!

When we got to Big Thunder Mountain there was a big queue outside the entrance, which was somewhat suspicious, and our suspicions were confirmed when a cast member went round the queue telling everyone that there were technical difficulties on the ride. Very frustrating! We waited for 20 minutes in the pouring rain, and it was bitterly cold, but we were determined to get on the ride. Finally they started letting people through at about 10.20, and finally we were about to have our first ride of the trip!

It was just as good as I remembered and we all put our arms up despite the fact that our fingers were going numb from the wind. :)

After this we grabbed Fastpasses to guarantee another go, and headed for Phantom Manor! This ride never gets old and I love that you always notice something new each time you go on it. And what's more, I was pleasantly surprised that I can now understand a fair bit of the French on the ride (I just finished my A Level French this year).

We were all now freezing cold, and when you lose all feeling in your appendages, it's definitely time for a hot choccie! So we went to El Fuente del Oro, and to my dismay the hot drinks were all Nestlé (I boycott them: see this website), but I was EXTREMELY reluctantly convinced that I was far too cold and that I could boycott them extra hard when I got back.

The hot choccies (which I tried to convince myself were, in fact, Cadbury's) warmed us up a bit, and it was now time for our Big Thunder Mountain Fastpasses! It was lots of fun again, but this time we decided against putting our arms up in the air. ;)

It was then very nearly time for the 12 o'clock showing of Mickey's Winter Wonderland at the Chaparral Theatre. We were literally some of the last people in the theatre and the show began almost immediately! I really enjoyed this show - very impressed by the characters' ice skating abilities, and plus one of the songs was Winter Hoedown from Une Journée!

Evidently I took a lot of photos during this show, mostly because I can't get over how fantastic the 12x zoom on my camera is. We were three rows from the back yet I could get photos like that!!

Day Two - Part Two

After this show we decided to catch the train to Discoveryland, with me managing to get a few photos on the way.

Once in Discoveryland we went on Star Tours, which had a tiny queue. I never stop loving this ride... hmm, I notice I'm saying that about a lot of rides! It was, however, spoiled a bit - and I apologise in advance if this is a case of tmi - by an unpleasant smell on the way out, followed by not one, but two (inevitable) pools of sick...!

Anyway, let's move off that subject, shall we?! How about some nice Discoveryland photos:

Space Mountain had a huge queue, so as Mum and Dad weren't interested in going on that we used all our park passes to get two Fastpasses each for Lucy and I. This is quite a common thing for us to do, as after all, how else are we going to get on popular rides without a huge queue?!

It was now time to grab a lateish lunch at Buzz Lightyear's Pizza Planet. I don't mind this restaurant as it's quite fun watching the kids have a whale of a time in the little playground, but it wasn't so funny when a kid of about 12 or 13 went in there and began throwing balls at the poor kids!!

After eating our pizzas we saw that Honey, I Shrunk the Audience was letting people in, so we joined the queue. I have to admit, I'm still too wussy not to lift my feet up for the mouse bit - it really creeps me out!

It was now about half 3, and my parents needed to go to the supermarket for supplies, so they headed off to Val d'Europe on the RER whilst Lucy and I went back to the hotel for a swim.

We knew that the changing room at the Sequoia Lodge pool was communal, and tiny, and I really didn't fancy that, so we decided to put our swimming costumes on under our clothes.

The pool is great fun! Now, I have had bad experiences with water slides, what with ending up going backwards and head first when I fell off my mat on a local slide as a kid, but I braved this water slide and thoroughly enjoyed it! I felt a bit of a muppet as not many people over the age of 11 were going on it, but frankly it was too fun for me to care. :p

We went in the jacuzzi before getting out of the pool, and it was lovely and warm, but it all went pear-shaped when we realised that you actually have to go through the main pool to get out of the jacuzzi, which meant it felt freezing cold - whoops!

It was back into the park at 5.20-ish and by the time we reached Discoveryland, it was almost time for our Space Mountain Fastpasses, so we had our two gos on that. Is Space Mountain: Mission 2 really any different to the original one?! Because I honestly didn't notice much difference! I also miss the big moon they used to have halfway through. :( But, it was still fun nonetheless!

We then headed back to Frontierland, stopping on the way to take photos (read: me annoying Lucy by stopping to take photos) of Discoveryland in the dark, which I think is gorgeous.

And we stopped again to take obligatory photos of the prettiness of the castle and Christmas tree at night!

In Fantasyland the Carousel looked too tempting, and so we joined the queue. This was actually the longest queue of the entire holiday - 15 minutes, equal with a later go on Big Thunder Mountain!! There were some English kids of about 6 or 7 behind us in the queue for the Carousel, who didn't believe us that we were going on it, and kept asking "Are you SURE you're going on?!".

But we did indeed go on, and we felt it was a little too extreme for us, so we headed to Adventureland where we went on Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril.

We really didn't enjoy Indiana Jones very much as it's a bit too rough and the seats are designed for people with incredibly short legs! Not a nice experience overall and we don't plan to go on this ride again.

At this point we were all hungry enough for dinner, so we said goodbye to Mickey:

and headed back to Disney Village after discovering that the Cowboy Cookout closes at 7. :( One look at the queue for Annette's Diner and it was King Ludwig's again! This time we were upstairs. We were 100% sure that upstairs had been non-smoking the previous day - the toilets are up there at it was an unmistakable smell - but today, it was non-smoking, and the smell, which had been overpowering yesterday, had mysteriously gone! To this day I do not know what was going on there! Magic, obviously!

Anyway, this time I had King Ludwig's Caesar Salad, which was HUGE, and to drink I had the Castle In The Sky mocktail, which was absolutely delicious. We had desserts today, for which I had the Royal Pancake.

It was then gone 10 and we were all stuffed. On the way back to the hotel, the water in Lake Disney was really still, creating a really nice reflection of Panoramagique:

We headed back "home" and were definitely all ready for bed to prepare for another long day in the park - this time for our first ever visit to Walt Disney Studios! :)

Great second day Emma - I loved reading it. You sound like you had a great time!!! Wonderful pictures of Mickey's Winter Wonderland!!! Thank you for writing it all and for the photos!!! Looking forward to day 3!!!

Thank you for the great report - you are getting me very excited. I love your photos!!!

Another great day!

Your photos are lovely - I especially liked the night time ones. I'm looking forward to seeing it all after dark, last time I was there in April and it was still daylight when we left the parks.

I'm surprised that Restaurants close at 7.00 in the wek before Christmas - still it sounds like you enjoyed King Ludwigs! Looking forward to the next part!

WOW !!!! what a nice report and ... marvellous photos !!!
The one with the castle at night is my favorite : a dream !!!!
Thanks for sharing !!!!

Wonderful reports Emma (just read the first one too!). ITA about Discoveryland in the dark - it looks SO wonderful!! And what great photos you taken!!! What sort of camera have you got? We've got a Konica Minolta Dimage Z3 which has also got a 12x zoom, and we love it!!!

Sounds like you had a great day Emma, and made great use of Fastpass to avoid the crowds. Your photos are really fantastic! The park looks so great at night! What camera do you have?

Looking forward to reading about your first visit to the Studios!

Fantastic report with photos made it even better :goodvibes
Sounds as everyone had a super time :)
Roll on day 3 ;)

Aww, thank you so much everyone for your kind words! :goodvibes

Becky and Rhiannon - I've got a Canon Powershot S2 IS. I got it for my 18th birthday I just love it to bits!

Expect day three in the next two or three days. :)

Some awesome photos there - the most I could get was a 5x optical zoom and still have it fit in my pocket but seeing your photos is making me seriously think about trading in, again, for a much better optical zoom and forget having it pocket size - especially when I never even kept it ion my pocket the whole holiday!

Thanks Steve! :) I definitely reckon it's worth investing in a larger camera with more zoom, especially at DLP where you're not often very close to your photo subjects. The size of it didn't bother me much at all - I had it round my neck for about 60% of the time and barely even noticed it - bearing in mind this is the first trip where I've taken most of the photos; I normally get my dad to carry everything. :teeth:

Nice camera Emma, but it is what you do with it that counts :) That's why your photographs are so good. I'm sure there are a few you could post up here

Wow just one Day not in the Forum and there is a paradice of Tripreports.
Really enjoying it. Great Trippi and faboulus Photos.

Great that you had so many rides on your second Day.

And for the water slides - who said that they are just for kids. This Year I booked the Explorers just for the reason that they had the biggest slide in the resort.

Awww, it sounds like you had a really lovely day. :) Your photos are fabulous, too - I especially love the ones from Mickey's Winter Wonderland! ::MickeyMo

Oh and I completely agree about the temperature of the Sequoia Lodge pool after being in the jacuzzi! Brrrr!

Another lovely day :goodvibes Your photos of the Winter Wonderland show are superb.

Some fantastic photos there! Doesn't that castle look like someone's decorated it with sugar icing?

I always look longingly at the carousel when I go because I love carousels but I do feel a bit silly at my age on a roundabout! Next time I'm determined not to let embarrassment get the better of me. I'm riding that carousel! :cool1:
