Hey everyone! This is my first post on the DVC boards. My husband and I are REALLY wanted to get into dvc probably at AKV. We are going to buy direct from disney hopefully. We have spoken once to our guide, Megan Moriarty and she mentioned that she would fedex some documents to us.. anyone know what that stuff is? Also, Do the guides prefer to talk on the phone or do they email? I have sent 2 emails to her with no response, but maybe they just do things by phone.. She is soo nice though!!

If it was you, would you try to get in before the Jan. 15th increase, or wait and see if they are going to offer new incentives.. Ugh.. so many decisions!!

Please Help!! Have a great weekend!:goodvibes

Welcome to the Disboards! This is a good place to start your research on a possible DVC purchase.

In general guides communicate by telephone. The only emails I get from my guide are promotional ones or trip planning ones. The info that they are sending you by fed ex are probably the intial disclosure information. There will be a lot of good info and fine print.

Only you can decide whether this is a good time for you to buy or not. No one can predict what kind of incentives they might roll out in 2009 with BLT, AKV and VGC for sale.

For what it is worth, buy where you want to stay should be the number one consideration. We when bought AKV we got developers points that we used for a trip to DL this summer. I will be buying VGC in a few weeks without any incentives to be sure that I have my foot in the door. I also like buying from Disney because it is so easy and with my December use year, I ususally end up with an extra year's points.

Good luck with your decision!

Guides don't email because Disney legal doesn't want a record kept of incorrect information or false promises.

Of course she is nice, would you spend thousands of dollars with a person who wasn't nice?

It's unknown what Disney will offer next, but with resale, what you see is what you get.

Good luck and best wishes.

Hi! We just bought in at AK in May. Probably the documents that she is sending you is the Dream Book. It has pictures and lots of information about all of the DVC resorts. My guide wouldn't email either, but always called me back right away. To answer your question if it was me, I would try to get in before the increase. If you have any other quesitons I would be happy to help - just let me know. And good luck!

I've read alot of posts saying the cost of points will be going up Jan 15. Then some one else says not all places are going up. Anyone know the latest on the price of BWV points and are they going up or not?

I don't get personal e-mails from our guide, but do get phone calls. Yesterday a letter came, reminding us that the price of AKV goes up January 15th. I am so torn, I've decided "yes" "no" DH says he's ready to support whatever I do.:confused3

I spoke to our guide yesterday. He said yes the BWV and BCV and the rest are going up but doesn't know to what. He thought he would know more on Monday.

He did say they have changed their minds and the minimum buy in at BLT will remain 160 points.

Sorry I don't have more info.

If you're not ready, or don't feel you have enough information, wait. I know that's hard, but Disney always ends up running specials. I remember when we bought in, Disney was running a 15th anniversary, Friends and Family promo. It really was a fabulous deal, as SSR points were selling for about the same price as you could buy through resale!

Now granted, I don't want to throw money away, but if you buy 160 points, you're talking $160 for every $1 per point you drop. If you really want to save money, check out the resales. Disney will RARELY run anything that comes close to competing with resale. Closing costs and MF expenses can be negotiated. We ended up picking up three contracts via resale (SSR and VB) and didn't pay closing costs. Because all contracts had prior year's points, we picked up the current MFs since we purchased in January time frame.

Best of luck with your decision! :thumbsup2

:scared1: "don't want to keep records...." You mean the phone conversation are not recorded either? So it's back to "he said, she said" type of deals... ? :rotfl:

Disney doesn't want the Member/Guest to have a record that could be legally binding. Member Satisfaction will not respond to you via email either.

Our guide periodically emails,

I think one reason Disney prefers phone contact is that it is difficult to judge emotional content and alter your tone accordingly. It's really easy to come across in an impersonal way in email and DVC is based around high touch hence the phone calls and in-person meetings.

I am a engineer for a major university and the majority of our communication with collegues is by email unless it is a VIP or a delicate issue and then the rule is PICK UP THE PHONE as it is too easy to get off on the wrong foot with email.

I think the Disney Legal thing is a side benefit for the lawyers but not the driving force behind the policy.

We had some problems with lost paperwork and our Guide would mail us status updates so my take on it is email is simply not appropriate in a business based on personal contact.

Seems as if Disney is the only one against personal contacts via email Many companies out there use email regardless what situation is. I closed on a house and never spoke to the lawyer or agent on the phone. All done via emails and faxes. Avoid phone tags when all of us tend to have a daytime job and email is perfect for convenience. I'm on computer all day and the only time i have calling guide is after work. Had it been email, it would be lot easier to reply back and forth at my convenience. I tried calling guide from work, he misses the call and vm comes on, i leave message, he calls me back, im out to lunch. Phone tags. not good.

Disney's email policy is strictly due to legal issues. If it's not in writing, Disney's has no accountability. If your Guide emails you that the incentive is x-y-z and that morning Disney changed it to a-b-c, you could demand the x-y-z incentive because you have the proof in writing.

As much as you would think that the Guides are in the loop, in reality, they are sometimes the last to know.

Wouldn't that be bad business practice- not have staff properly train and informed- so instead, not put anything in writing to avoid lawsuits. Maybe McDonald should stop serving coffee... just in case someone spills it and ..... :rotfl2:

Plus, i doubt that would hold in court anyway- emails from guide as proof in writing. Could argue that it was typo, or misinformed- some type of error or something. But could affect customer relations though.
