Elf on the shelve MIA-help!

Our Jingle is MIA too! It must be the name! LOL. I ended up buying a girl one (not Elf on the Shelf) from Hobby Lobby for $4 and a boy elf at Family Dollar for $4. They are so much cuter than the originals IMHO. They arrived Friday with a note saying that Jingle got promoted and can't come to stay this year. Hopefully, he'll turn up and arrive for a "reunion" sometime during the season.

That's brilliant!

OH NO!!!! I am so afaird I will do this too... so far so good... Frankie arrived Friday Night... :) UGH now to think of 30 more days of things for him to do... AHHHHHH

There are a lot of fun things that Frankie can do. Some of the things Jingle has gotten up to over years are....

Make snow angels in flour
Played Mario kart
Played in the Barbie car with Barbie
Played a game with Barbie and GI Joe
Got all the fixings out for cookies, including a new cookie pan.
Hung the kids underwear on the Christmas tree

Oh I hope we find Jingle, she is do much fun!

We only good "extra" things about 2 nights a week. Other nights its just hanging from the shower curtain, or ceiling fan, cabinet handle, sitting on the mantel, just basic sitting. Momma can't handle 30+ nights if creativity lol.

I think if I can't find a new Jingle that is the same as the old Jingle, i may have to try the "she got a promotion or oh look Jingle got a make over"!

And this is why I emailed myself our Elf's location.

EXCELLENT idea! I just randomly ran across Pippy the other day, just in the knick of time. I NEVER would have looked for our elf in that spot. Thankfully Pippy showed up this afternoon and both of our kids are SOOOO excited! Now for me to remember to move him each night...

I do the same thing here too. Most nights Pippy is just hanging around somewhere so he came keep an eye on our kids. Every now and then Pippy will get mischieveous and do something like make a snow angel in marshmellows, go fishing from a shelf, etc. Probably the one that freaked our kids out the most last year was when Pippy was in the car on the dash! ;) The looked EVERYWHERE in the house but couldn't find him. Finally they found him in the car. I knew we had a lot of errands to run that day and guess who came for a ride to keep an eye on things?!?

How's this ...

I'm notorious for losing things ... I would lose my own head if it wasn't attached, and I'm known for the amount of times I've lost my id and debit card. We had a move coming up this year, so my mom offered to keep our elf for us. She'd bought a different elf that I thought of using, but ended up getting the Elf on the Shelf with the book as a package.

So I brought our elf to her to hide, and she said "This isn't the elf I gave you" so I explained to her why'd we gone that route. At Thanksgiving, I mentioned needing our elf back, and my mom said I never brought him. :confused3 Maybe she just wants me to use the slightly less creepy elf she found ... lol

I still have boxes to unpack, and I couldn't go through our Christmas stuff this week since DD was home, so I have no idea if the elf is here or at my mom's. I tried to get around this issue!!!

I ordered a boy and a girl today from Book Depository after reading this thread! It won't arrive for a few weeks I guess but it will be so much fun to do with DD 12 and DS11.

Our elf Freddy Jenkins was delivered on our front door step wrapped in brown paper and addressed to my girls, return address to the North Pole. Really cute packaging and cost us nothing. Love supporting Small businesses! The girls were really excited to find a package for them at the front door to open and then we sat and all read the book together to find out what it was.

Last year my Boys (12 & 9) were both in the know so it became a game of hiding Curly. We all had a great time hiding him in crazy places! He was hidden so well we never found him. I thought ohh well they're over it and put up the decorations over the weekend. Last night the 10 year old started screaming I FOUND CURLY!!! He had hidden him a present box that I stuck on our pillow Santa's lap. LOL I never thought it open it. He was so excited! Now that he's been found we're thinking he needs to come with us for our Christmas trip in 26 days! 10 year old is trying to figure out a way to attach him to hand so he can bring him on Space Mountain :)

My kids are getting older too, but they still get a kick out of seeing what Jingle has gotten up to during the night!

Jingle has been with us for two years and after she "left" last Christmas I put her somewhere safe for this year. The only problem is, I can't remember where I put her!

The kids are already talking about her return, so I think I will be buying a new one. Is there anywhere that sells just the elf without the book. I need the original doll, not the plush.

Thanks for your help!

I was at Bass Pro Shop this evening and they have just the elves for about $16.

Thanks, there isn't one of those around here:( Once the kids are off to school today, I am planning operation Jingle. I am going to search everywhere....if not i will have to either order a new one, or go out looking for one....ah the things we do for our kids:)

I am so excited....I found Jingle:yay::woohoo::yay:

I thought i had put her in my dresser draw, like i had done the year before, but i had emptied all my drawers out looking for her, and she wasn't in there. So this morning i shone a flashlight behind the draws and sure enough, over the last year Jingle had worked her way out of the draw and was inside the dresser, but behind the draw!

I am so happy i found her and can't wait to bring her out soon, so she can get it to mischief!!

I also saw just the elf at Target. Hopefully you'll find Jingle soon. :thumbsup2

Not to hijack your thread about Jingle but I do have a question about the "Elf on the Shelf." We don't have an elf yet, but I want to start this tradition this year. How do I go about starting it. I haven't purchased the elf or book yet but was looking at them this year at Target (that's when I saw just the elf for purchase) and I know my boys would love this. I just don't know how to introduce the elf to our family. Does it just magically appear? How about the book? When do I read it? How does the elf get its name?

I want to buy this this week so we can start it by next weekend. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When Shorty came to us the first time, I just put out the book and the elf for my DD to find. We then read the book so she would know the rules. He then moves around each night. He always comes on Thanksgiving night and arrives with the book again so that DD can be reminded of the rules. She does not even know he came in a box. I keep all of that hidden.
