What are Elephant Ears?

As in Chef de France's:
Assiette de Sorbets du jour et son palmier - Daily assortment of fresh sorbets served with an elephant ear. - $7.25

The only place I've seen them (and eaten them, yum!) is in the French bakery in World Showcase...:goodvibes

It's kind of a cookie, it's dough rolled around to look like an elephant ear. It's not very sweet and it's very tasty. I love them!

They're very a flakey, wonderful pastry. Very buttery, and sometimes has large granules of sugar on the top. The pastry itself doesn't tend to be terribly sweet, but they are WONDERFUL.

Are they considered like puff pastry??? My DH loves these, me not so much.

i wouldnt concider them a puffy pastry, we used t o have them where i worked, they are very fluffy, look kind of like a crouissant (totally ruined the spelling on that one) only bigger) with large sugar crystals on it, you dont taste the sugar much. the above poster is right, buttery tasting, again like the crouissant...oh they are just yummy, airy and fun....i want it i want it i want it :rotfl: you should definately try one!

i definitely wouldnt describe them as a cookie. theyre exactly like a funnel cake but shaped differently (at leastthe elephant ears where I live are) they are shaped like a big flat elephant ear but the taste is the same as a funnel cake. usually they have sugar and cinnamon on them. some people put fruit on them.
