Electrical appliances :- Do you need to take them?

The other half has decided that she is going to be taking a toaster with us when we go. Is this being extremely well organised or just insane?!

We normally go to a hotel that has a small kitchen and facilities but this time we don't. Has anybody ever thought they needed to take any appliances with them

There's no guarantee due to the low voltage that the toaster will even work in the US, I know people have reported problems with other low voltage items such as hair straighteners etc in the past.

Will you be going anywhere near a Walmart or anything? If you're really set on the idea I'd be more inclined to pick up a cheapy cheapy one there and then for $20 it'll have proper plug and voltage for the US. Or just eat muffins instead of toast for brekky

We are staying pretty close to a walmart, as we are going there to pick up some essential food and drinks..have said that we could buy 1 there and just leave it....but what do i know I'm just the other half

You'll do as you're told and like it!!

Another thing to bear in mind that while a toaster may not be that heavy, it takes up a bit of luggage space that might be rather useful for the trip home.

Also, dunno what your toaster is like but mine leaves a trail of crumbs no matter how hard I try to shake them all out! So if you do take yours with you, be sure to wrap it up very well so you don't get bits of toast in your clothes.

I wouldn't take one.

I was just going to post a thread for a similar thing. From my ticker can anyone say if any of these resorts have a toaster? I cant remember when we stayed at OKW if there was a toaster or not. Not a deal breaker. And grumpy I wouldnt personally take a toaster. Like disney said cheap enough to buy.

Just to say, I'm not sure about Universal or offsite hotels but Disney don't allow you to take your own electrical appliances for obvious H&S reasons.

I thought so, but as Wilmabride posted, you are not supposed to take your own into the Disney hotels. However I am not sure that the OP is staying onsite.

Still, it would never occur to me to take a toaster. Also, remember that we have chunky, solid UK plugs on our appliances. The US sockets take those piddly little 2 pin ones so if you put something heavy (like a UK plug) into the travel adapter, it often pulls it downward from the socket and downwards meaning the pins don't connect to the contact points. I know I had a compact battery charger a couple of years ago and the only way to keep it connected was to place a bag or something under it to hold the weight so the darn plug would stay in.

crabbie1 will be fine, as the hotels she's staying at have toasters in the rooms. As for the OP, I'd guess that most hotels wouldn't want their guests bringing electrical appliances in, onsite or otherwise. Whether or not people adhere to such rules is a different story I guess! When I was at uni, we weren't allowed toasters/mini fridges/kettles (etc.) in our rooms but some people still had them (not me! ).

Thanks disney princess and tiggies my ever faithful friend. I know the resturants have them as styed at POP but I couldnt remember for the life of me if the DVC studios have one. Great. Will post on RPR thread to see if they know.

Disney don't allow you to take your own electrical appliances for obvious H&S reasons.

We have taken a kettle to BWV for many years so that we can make a decent cup of tea. We leave it out in the kitchen and it has never been questioned. We don't take it over from the UK, it is one we bought in the US and keep at our holiday home.
In order to get the tea just right we also take teabags from the UK and a huge container of water from Sweet Bay or one of the other US supermarkets as the WDW water tastes awful.
