Electrical appliances :- Do you need to take them?

We have taken a kettle to BWV for many years so that we can make a decent cup of tea. We leave it out in the kitchen and it has never been questioned. We don't take it over from the UK, it is one we bought in the US and keep at our holiday home.
In order to get the tea just right we also take teabags from the UK and a huge container of water from Sweet Bay or one of the other US supermarkets as the WDW water tastes awful.

Just because you do it doesn't mean that Disney allows it.

And just because you make some blanket statement about Disney not allowing you to take your own electrical appliances doesn't make it a fact!

People take laptops, phones, mp3 players, video game players, camera chargers, hair dryers, hair straighteners, shavers and so on, without it being questioned.

I believe the issue is with cooking equipment (eg toasters) because of setting off the smoke alarms etc. Presumably there is a reason why they're provided in the food courts :confused3

Also, you're talking about BWV which has a kitchenette and is therefore meant to be cooked in. The OP is talking about a standard hotel room, I believe. Bit of a difference.

My mistake was in using the words 'electrical appliances' as opposed to 'cooking appliances'

I took my 42" plasma on my last two visits to Orlando. I can't stand watching hotel room tv's.

If you want to take your toaster, you do it. To be safe take two in case one breaks down.

Only a 42"

Thanks for the advice but what if the 2nd one breaks down?!:scared1:

I believe you are correct. It is to do with the cooking equipment. I would imagine since BWV has a kitchen and the kettle the Ford Family refer to is a standard US appliance that this would not be a problem. But I know that people have actually contacted Disney and reported being told that "cooking appliances" (in quotes because I don't recall exactly how they phrased it) are not to be taken in. I think the big issue is where there is no designated kitchen area you have carpets and soft furnishings around and aside from a safety issue, it is a bit of a health issue as well. I would hardly think of plugging my toaster in my bedroom as the done thing, so similarly, I can see why this would be a problem at a resort where you have a room only.

:lmao: We'd got to the stage where this thread needed this! :rotfl2:

We used to have toasters in the building I work in, it even has a kitchenette on each floor. They are now banned as the toaster would set off the fire alarms semi-frequently and being a big office building it meant full evacuation and even if the innocent culprit was found that triggered the smoke alarm we had to wait for the fire brigade to arrive, check it out, and then give the all clear.

Considering the size of the Disney resorts I can easily see how it might be...irritating....if that were to happen because someone burnt their toast in a room without adequate ventilation or over sensitive smoke alarms.

Sorry, but this is insane..

Our big worry is getting my son's medical equipment into the USA to enable him to eat, thousands have died in Pakistan, soldiers are being killed daily and the big question is taking a toaster to the USA. Do we all understand how crazy this is?

As I was the OP, can a Mod now close the thread.:thumbsup2

I have all the info I need. Thanks for all the input.

KH, I know there are serious problems going on in the world...I never posed the question looking for such a serious debate. I hope you do get all the help you can get to get your son's equipment in to the USA.

Not all threads can be about serious issues tho:thumbsup2

Hey Grumpy

Glad you got your info. Sometimes threads veer a bit off topic - or on topic and take a twist. It's part of the fun, but it can go the other way too. Always remember, when you start a thread with an innoent question, which I believe you did, you are not accountable for the answers and comments you get. If any of my posts made you feel ridiculed in any way, it was not intentional and I sincerely apologise to you and your DW

No problems with any of the posts, as a member of a different forum on a different topic, we always get a MOD to close it down when we feel we have the info required rather than the topic drifting on and on and on....

Have a read of some of my threads, wouldn't call then serious. There is a post somewhere about the time I put deep heat in a room mates underwear in Florida. It was me that kidded around about my plasma.

The point I was making is where we are at as a society. Surly you can see how ridiculous wanting to take a toaster abroad is. Not a pop at you personally.

Oh kevin you kill me:lmao::cool1::rotfl2: I was thinking of taking my own car as I dont like left hand drive:thumbsup2

Surely lots of hotels have toasters that you can use in their dining areas? Or are you like the secret lemonade drinker and have to go downstairs in the middle of the night for some toast?

At this point I think it is only right and proper that I encourage all users to post any question that they have - regardless of how insignificant it may be to others.
The whole point of the Dis is a friendly place where everyone can come, ask their questions and get the answers they want without fear of being ridiculed or belittled - and without having to worry about the state of the world before they post.
I'm glad you got the answers you wanted Grumpy, and look forward to seeing you posting more in the future :thumbsup2
