Egypt 2011 ***IMPORTANT UPDATE 2/4/11 Post # 190***

I was expecting that there would be costumes available on the ship. I gather the dinner is part of cruise in any event as it is listed on the web site of the cruise line as one of the activities.

I am not too worried about the security as we have armed air marshals on many of our flights and armed police at most airports anyway. Will it really be much different? Hard to say but certainly more obvious.

Ok, good. I guess there are willing costume-wearers, if you can call it that. I'll bring them as well and see if anyone else wears one. My hubby is willing but he says only if other men will do the same since the costume is kinda like a shirt dress.

My aunt went on a Nile cruise with dress up night. She bought a c;eopatra dress on the ship for under $10. She still has it - Halloween party ready!

Just called... the Egypt trip for June 7th departure is 45% filled...7 children ages 8 to 16....hope its a go!

Even though I'm doing Lindblad/National Geographic for Egypt, I'm participating in this thread, LOL.

We leave in 2.5 months and yesterday I received another big envelope. Lindblad offers several excursions in and around Cairo if you come in a day or two early or stay a day or two after. We are not doing that because of my work schedule but it's great that they offer them. We had went in early for our AbD and no extra excursions were available for us (unless we arranged them on our own).

We just booked the December 27, 2011 ABD Egypt trip (DH, DD10 and myself). The Disney rep told me that trip was about 60% full.

We will also be on that trip. My daughter will be 14 and my son 11. It is always great to hear that there are other children. We did the ABD South Africa trip in August and there were 14 kids under 19. The kids had a blast with each other and now have friends all over the country.

My daughter will actually be 11 at the time of the Egypt trip in Dec. 2011. She also loves meeting new friends from around the world (she met a lot on the DCL Baltic cruise this past summer) and gets along well with boys as well as girls.

I'm interested in doing this trip with my daughter for her college graduation in Dec. 2012, but I see that right now they only go through spring 2012. If they do extend the dates, does anyone have any idea when that will be?

ABD usually makes the announcement in early August, but the trips came out in July this year. So the 2012 itineraries will probably be out in July or August 2011. There's been a lot of buzz about the Egypt trip, so hopefully it will still be offered in 2012 for you daughters graduation present. That would be an extremely awesome gift!

Thanks, that sounds great. From what I'm reading it sounds popular, so hopefully it'll still be around.

We were really excited when AbD added an adults only trip only to find that we could not book it on DVC points (new trip not in DVC contract), so now we are waiting to see what is offered in 2012. I am looking forward to reading the reviews of the trips to Egypt!

When is the first Egypt trip? I see you did Peru. I was afraid of altitude sickness. Did you experience any of it? What did you think of the trip?

Yes, we did Peru, but we live at altitude (6000 ft), so the altitude of Peru did not bother us, we did drink the coca (I think) tea to help with the altitude, but no one in our group had problems, we spent several easy days at altitude before hiking around Machu Pichu, which was the most strenuous of the days.

This is so exciting!!! I booked already, anyone else going? :cool1:

I hope AbD has a contingency plan for shark attacks at Sharm el-Sheikh! :scared1:

**********************************************************

Four Russian tourists have been badly mauled by a shark in two separate attacks at an Egyptian Red Sea resort.

Two of them had their arms bitten off by the oceanic white tip shark as they swam in the Ras Nasrani area of the Sharm el-Sheikh resort.

The same shark is then thought to have been involved in an attack on another Russian couple yesterday close to the resort beach, said Mohammed Salem, director of Sinai Conservation.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the waters at Sharm el-Sheikh! :scared1:

"A shark tore the arm off an elderly German tourist at an Egyptian Red Sea resort, killing her almost immediately, security and diving officials said Sunday, only days after sharks badly mauled four other European tourists in the waters."

I wonder if the AbD guides will jump in if they see a guest being eaten by a shark?? :rolleyes1
