Eggs-plaining the Egg-stravaganza -- The 2016 Hunt Is Over!!!

Well, we did all three maps and we have one of each egg. DH and I had our own maps. We had a great time.

Oh, that's a good idea! That's a smart way to get all of the prize eggs -- just make sure each person has each map!

My 5 and 7 year olds were able to find all the eggs on their own and did all 3 in one day. If you get stuck, just look for the cluster of people with maps, there was usually a group around every egg in the parks.

I was lucky in that, going on the very first day of the event, there were not too many clusters of people out yet -- which is what I was hoping for. I ran into some fellow egg hunters throughout the day, but the groups had not yet begun to form. In fact, more people saw me taking photos of eggs and were spoiled by me than I was spoiled by them -- which was okay with me! :lmao: In all seriousness, though, that aspect is one thing I don't like -- it will be very easy to see groups of people gathered around. Even if you don't get stuck on a clue, you will see the groups of people -- and, for people who actually want to hunt and find the eggs, and are in it for the challenge, seeing the telltale groups of people gathered 'round will ruin it.

However... there is no avoiding it. It comes with egg territory, sadly!

We actually did it the first day too, and didn't really find the groups to be an issue except when we had a hard time finding a couple- then we looked for people with maps to either see where they were or get a hint from them.

Maybe we passed by each other during our egg journeys, since we were both there on the same day! :lmao: I started with the DTD hunt, then moved into DCA, and then over to DL. There was one egg hunting couple that I encountered in DTD in the morning, who I later encountered in DL. There was another woman who I ran into in several lands around Disneyland, as we were pounding the pavement, looking for eggs. I saw quite a few people with the DTD maps -- even in the morning -- but then, by the time I got to DCA and DL, it seemed like every 3rd or 4th person/group had at least one map.

My favorites are the little kids that loudly shout THERE IT IS while you're trying to look. :rotfl:

I encountered that issue a lot. I was worried about seeing the groups gathered around eggs because I did not want to be spoiled without at least trying to find the eggs myself, but there were plenty of times when kids would run up nearby -- when I was searching the landscape -- and say, "I found an egg! It's Pluto" or something like that. But then there were other times when people saw me taking pictures, which clued them into an egg's location. I guess there is no way to avoid any of those scenarios.

Yeah. These were my kids. Sorry folks!

I apologize if these cute girls ruined it for anyone last week!

We ran into the same people on our journey. We did notice people huddled around an egg a few times. And while we were eating at EOS people would point and yell out what egg was there. We had not found that one yet but it was Thumper and above our heads.

I did the Easter egg hunt today at Disneyland :) I enjoyed finding the eggs and thought it was so funny that either Chip or Dale had a red nose just like a certain reindeer. Sherry, can that count as a Christmas picture in December? :D My favorite eggs were Minnie and Mickey, adorable and they were who I chose as prizes (got 2 maps). DL sure was crowded today! I hope of you who were there enjoyed the sun and had fun :)

This is off topic but something I never realized until today (called DL yesterday to ask) is that you are able to pay for parking using a Disney GC. I had gotten one at Target yesterday and that helped save in general but also on parking.

Happy Egg Hunting to all!

DD and I are going right before Easter. I hope they have enough maps and prizes then. She is excited and wants to do all 3 since it will probably be the only Easter egg hunt she will get this year...we are heading home on Easter.

This was so fun! My kids absolutely loved it! We did the Disneyland one, but they were pointing out downtown disney and California adventure eggs as well! The one by bugs life was found by my 5 year old. She was so good at finding them. She saw the china closet one as we were walking by, not even looking for it.

I never even knew about this Egg Hunt and it sounds adorable. We will be there next weekend and plan to do this.
Now the plan is to do Disneyland, Downtown Disney & California Adventure.

It's so weird -- I checked this thread a couple of nights ago (late at night), just to see if anyone else had posted here (since the Egg-stravaganza is currently going on) and I saw no new comments at all. I decided to pop in here today to bump up the thread, only to find that several comments had come in since Wednesday night -- and I did not receive any email notifications about them at all!

Anyway, I'm glad to see that people are enjoying this event, or are going to try it before Easter. I think it's a lot of fun -- and it's a reasonable price. People can choose to do one hunt, two hunts or all three. It's a great way of getting some extra exercise by walking all over DLR to areas you might ordinarily skip, and it's a different activity to participate in that isn't going on for the rest of the year.

I really have a feeling that in the future there might be a more difficult hunt added in, alongside the easy one, for those who are up to the challenge. If so, I can't wait to see what a more difficult hunt would entail -- but I am inclined to think that, similar to the Looking for Mickey Quest last year, it might involve getting on some rides or going through the queues to find eggs.

Finally got around to doing the hunt this morning and all three were fun for the family! Many thanks to Sherry for guiding this thread and keeping everything up to date! In DCA, the Incredibles helped out to find one of the more difficult locations, and at Grizzley, Chip and Dale helped us find one as well! We all got in over 13K steps by 10:30 and will take it easy the rest of the day. Still lots of maps and prize eggs (CM at DCA indicated they have tons to last the rest of the month).

How fun that the characters played along!

You're very welcome! :goodvibes

Did you do all 3 hunts in just a few hours (by 10:30)? My time wasn't nearly that good, but I was doing a lot of back and forth between the lockers and one park or the other, and then back to get my prizes. I could have saved myself some time if I had collected the prizes at the times I got the maps.

It is a good bit of walking, and as I was doing the hunts I thought that I should have had a pedometer with me to track how much walking was involved in case anyone wanted to do all 3 of them in one day -- so I'm very glad that you mentioned the 13K steps! At least that gives us an idea of what is to be expected (oops, sorry -- eggs-pected!).

A couple of the CMs did mention last week that they had a lot of maps and prizes this time (I would certainly hope so, since the event is lasting almost a full month!), but one of them ominously warned that the prizes tend to run out early on. This was on Day 1 of the hunt, so I wasn't too worried about my Woody prize egg being gone by the time I made it back to the shop later on that afternoon! I didn't think there would be a mad rush on plastic Woody eggs within several hours of the Egg-stravaganza beginning!

The Parks Blog, of course, shows what the prizes are up front -- but they are very protective of the eggs' locations. They do not want to give any info away (I can't really blame them, as I think it removes some of the challenge and fun from a pretty easy event). I posted a comment on the Blog shortly after getting back from doing the hunt, to mention how much fun it was and that I was happy that some of the eggs are a wee bit more difficult to find this year because it adds more of a challenge. I am careful about not giving out spoilers so I wouldn't specifically name a precise hiding place in the Parks Blog, when someone new to the hunt might be looking there for info. However, I think I mentioned the general land where there was an egg, to indicate that I had some trouble with that location -- and the Parks Blog did not publish it! :lmao: You can see they have no problem posting my other comments, but I think they left that one out because of that one reference to the land. I noticed that another person posted a couple of days later, and he also mentioned a land where there was a hiding spot, but he did not mention the hiding spot if I remember correctly. They posted his comment at first -- I saw it -- but by the next day it was gone! Again, I think it is because he mentioned the land where there was a hiding spot.

We did finish around 10:30, but we didn't have to go back and forth between the lockers (my backback was essentially the locker for everyone), and we did redeem the prize eggs at the start (I wanted to make sure we got Stitch and Cheshire since those two seemed to be the most popular of the 6 prizes) so that saved a lot of time not having to circle back to Elias & Co, WOD, etc. We started at DL and our primary mission today was to do the egg-stravaganza before anything else. We were lucky because we were the only ones at the normal entrance gates without MM/EMH, and the CM there gave us a pass to go in for MM/EMH. We did a couple of rides first, but saw the eggs in Fantasyland and Tomorrowland before buying our maps, so we got a headstart on things. Overall we spent about an hour in DL, about an hour-15min in DCA, and finally went from one end of DTD to the other. You're absolutely right, DL was easy, and DTD was even easier. But DCA was by far a bit more challenging (and I now know what you mean about one clue being totally misleading and not providing any guidance to the location of said egg). It was really fun, and there were a lot of other guests doing the hunt as well. Definitely an egg-cellent way to spend the morning at DLR!

Stitch and Cheshire Cat were the two prizes that I thought would be most popular -- I wondered when or if they would run out. I am disappointed that I didn't get a Mr. Toad egg last year -- especially when I learned that Epcot is giving out some leftover Mr. Toad eggs this year, along with their 2016 eggs.

I would love to see Mike & Sulley/Monsters Inc. eggs. I'd also love to see Little Green Men eggs, or Mr. Potato Head eggs.

Not only is there usually a misleading clue (or two) of some sort every year, which leads guests to one location when they should be going elsewhere, but this year there was a clue that was not intended to be misleading when the map was printed. I won't say where it is or in which land, but you will probably know what I am talking about when I say that the clue made it seem as though the egg would be off to the far right somewhere. When the locations were planned out and the maps were printed, that egg was supposed to be way off to the right somewhere. However, after the maps were printed the CMs realized that the egg could not be placed in that location... and it had to be moved way off to the left somewhere. They tried to keep it in the same general vicinity, but the location where the egg ended up had nothing much to do with the specific clue on the map! :lmao: So that was an unexpected misleading clue that was throwing some people off track!

A couple of different times I found myself mumbling under my breath, "Huh? Where is the .... [fill in the blank with hiding spot referenced in clue]? I didn't even realize there was a .... in this park!"

We JUST got our first smart phones before this trip, and since we are not local or very familiar with the parks, Google was definitely our friend just to get to certain locations. Also, I think we may have placed a few in the wrong spot for the DCA map and I was super concerned 'is it this one??? Or THIS one???' When it doesn't matter. No one is checking with a key. I think all 3 had one in the end we were trying to find, and every time, my 7 year old would say 'you know.... We could just put the last sticker down...' But my five year old would have no part of that. She needed to see the last egg.
