Eggs back up

Local Lidi is showing $1.77 for dozen large eggs.

$1.27 dozen at our Aldi

$1.57 a dozen at Meijer.

$1.27 at our Aldi

I paid $3.46 for 18 count at Walmart on Wednesday. They still show the same price on the website. Although a 36 count pkg of 2 18's costs $9.17. Why not just buy 2 separate packages and pay $6.92? lol
You really do have to check. Sometimes the bigger amount is the more expensive on a per unit basis. Sneaky they are. Very sneaky.

Yeah - same for so many things.

What really get me is when they have the similar items, one it priced per unit, one is per ounce and another is per pound.
I run into that a lot.

I buy Happy Eggs Free Range. They're $5.99 per dozen at Fry's today. A week ago, they had some marked down to $1.04 because they were close to the use by date. I bought them and they were long gone before the expiration date.

Just got back from an Aldi shopping trip and they were $1.27 there.

We got Eggland's Best (dozen large) 2 for $5 last week. Before that there was the Farmer's Cow extra large eggs on sale $1.99 for a dozen.

Eggs are an excellent value, even at $6 per dozen.

But no longer the best protein value - at that price (which is for about 24oz of egg), you are paying $4/lb.
You can easily get tofu, peanuts, canned beans/dried beans, and even chicken (drumstick/leg/whole full price, breast/thigh on sale) and some cuts of pork for that price/lb or less.

At $6/dozen, they are a pass for most people, who prefer meat/fish proteins to egg ones, but prefer eggs for a discount protein meal.

I may go over there and check it out. Maybe pick up some Arbys while there : )

edited to add: I just looked at shop walmart and it's saying $7.92 for Great Value 18 count eggs. Last time this happened I bought the brown eggs as they were cheaper (showing $3.92) but they did not have any brown eggs when I was there today. After reading all your responses, I thought maybe I missed something but I didn't. These are the same eggs I bought last week for $3++ (don't remember the exact price).
That's odd, I just checked, 9:45 am and the price is still $4.32 at the Madison Walmart.photo.jpg

I happened to be in Aldi today for something else and the lady in front of me mentioned to the cashier about the price of eggs today. Apparently a dozen were $1.79 the day before and $3.22 today! Thankfully I have 18 or so in my fridge.

ETA: 18 eggs...not 18 dozen eggs! :rotfl2:

I wonder if a store ended up switching the location of the eggs. So someone who thought they were picking up the "generic store brand" actually picked up the "cage free, organic" ones. 🤔

Yesterday I paid $2.24 for a dozen JUMBO eggs at Walmart. It is slightly higher than two weeks ago when I paid $1.97 for the same thing. Are you guys buying the golden eggs from Willy Wonka?

If not it seems like some of you folks are being taken for a ride or you're buying the cage free, free range, organic, antibiotic free eggs that are harvested only from virgin chickens and come out with the brand printed on the side of them. (eggs not the chickens). 😉

$1.62 a dozen here, bought some yesterday. Been around $1.58 for a several months.

$2.65 for 18 here and our Kroger has a $0.65 best customer coupon out right now. So, it’s $2 for 18.IMG_1295.jpeg
