my great aunt (who's in her 80's now) probably has less wrinkles than me (42), and she swears by vaseline.
BUT my mom asked her 'natural health' doctor, and he said "oh my goodness, don't put vaseline (petroleum) on your face!"
so I'm torn... people have used it for years for diaper rash, etc, but it "is" a petro product, isn't it??
I cringed when I saw folks use Vaseline--as I understand it to be a petroleum product as well. As for babies, I have never heard to use it for diaper rash, but my oldest was born in 2000, so perhaps this is earlier generations?
I've only seen it used in medical settings as a lubricant for ummm..taking temperatures the non-oral way.
While I don't use this as I just forget and I think it got lost in our move, I have a homepathic-nut friend (the nut is meant lovingly--she is like organic to the infinite degree and even has created her own organic, completely chemical free cosmetic line!)....she swears by coconut oil.
It is solid at room temperature, but with your body temp, it melts. She has awesome skin and this is her moisturizer.
It almost seems vaseline like in texture and probably does the same job. It is pricy--but a little goes a long way. I had a free sample that I was still working on a year later. I wish I could remember where I got it. I ordered it online. Coconut oil is also sold in the "organic" section of your grocery store or if you venture to Whole Foods. Trader Joe's might have it as well.
In the mean time--I'm using the regenerest line from Oil of Olay. I'm enjoying it, but do wish there was a more holistic approach that would produce similar results. I'm suffering from the post-baby old-lady look as my body bounces back post-partum.
