Effective wrinkle face care??

my great aunt (who's in her 80's now) probably has less wrinkles than me (42), and she swears by vaseline.

BUT my mom asked her 'natural health' doctor, and he said "oh my goodness, don't put vaseline (petroleum) on your face!"

so I'm torn... people have used it for years for diaper rash, etc, but it "is" a petro product, isn't it??

I cringed when I saw folks use Vaseline--as I understand it to be a petroleum product as well. As for babies, I have never heard to use it for diaper rash, but my oldest was born in 2000, so perhaps this is earlier generations?

I've only seen it used in medical settings as a lubricant for ummm..taking temperatures the non-oral way.

While I don't use this as I just forget and I think it got lost in our move, I have a homepathic-nut friend (the nut is meant lovingly--she is like organic to the infinite degree and even has created her own organic, completely chemical free cosmetic line!)....she swears by coconut oil.

It is solid at room temperature, but with your body temp, it melts. She has awesome skin and this is her moisturizer.

It almost seems vaseline like in texture and probably does the same job. It is pricy--but a little goes a long way. I had a free sample that I was still working on a year later. I wish I could remember where I got it. I ordered it online. Coconut oil is also sold in the "organic" section of your grocery store or if you venture to Whole Foods. Trader Joe's might have it as well.

In the mean time--I'm using the regenerest line from Oil of Olay. I'm enjoying it, but do wish there was a more holistic approach that would produce similar results. I'm suffering from the post-baby old-lady look as my body bounces back post-partum.

Funny how most women think they look younger than all the other women their age, lol. Didn't see one woman on this board write "I look much older than my age. I've never been carded and I'm only 20 or everyone calls me grandma and I'm only 28." In reality, we probably all look our ages give or take a year or two. I have noticed that often overweight women and those with fuller faces look younger than thin women. So we can either be wrinkle free and heavy or thin and wrinkled as a prune! Can't have it all!

:thumbsup2:lmao:

I've actually had a 'plan' for this... i've always been thin and still am (I'm 42), but I've got the crows feet by my eyes, and 2 deep 'worry' wrinkles between my eyebrows. I plan on slowly gaining weight in my 50's... I think very thin older people look kinda of 'sickly' anyway - a little meat on the bones later in life I think looks better than thin.

so that will be my wrinkle remedy - I'll be back in 10 years and let you know if it works... :rotfl:

(I'm laughing, but I'm actually 1/2 serious)...

Retin-A is really the only thing that will work. Those miracle creams like Strivectin are a scam. Any cream that doesn't have retinoids will basically give you the same result. Sometimes the more people pay for a wrinkle cream, the more results they will see because they have to justify the expense. It's all psychological -- and good advertising.

Several years ago I was able to get a large tube of Retin-A prescription from a dermatologist to use for acne treatment. I didn't have acne, but did have some blemishes. By getting the prescription for acne, my insurance paid for it. I'm not sure if that would still work now, but you could ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Not only does weight play a role in wrinkles something I've noticed over the yrs is how oily the skin is....those with oily skin do not get wrinkles, those of us with dry skin wrinkle.....my skin has always been very very dry an it did not help that I've abused it most of my life...lots of pollutions while riding the harley sometimes 30,000 miles or more a year, sunbathing an smoking.

I believe it was Sophia Loren who said that at a certain age, a woman must choose her butt or her face (meaning be skinny or look better as we age). She said she was choosing her face. I figure if it's good enough for Sophia's looks, it's good enough for me.

According to the BMI tables, I need to lose 10 pounds to be healthy, and 25 to be the perfect weight. I think I'll stick with my size 8/10 body and have less wrinkles.

Retin-A is the only way to get rid of wrinkles. When I got my prescription, I had to get pre-approval and it was a PITA, but worth it. I mix it with my regular moisturizer 2-3 times per week and my skin is virtually wrinkle free. It's worth it to take a trip to the derm to get the prescription rather than spending money on over the counter stuff that doesn't work.

I mostly agree, but I'm pretty certain first line is Renova for wrinkles, When I saw our derm (for DS appointment) I asked about wrinkles and Retin A and she gave me samples of Renova, which has the same ingredient as Retin-A, but that Retin A is for acne, and Renova is for wrinkles. Or to Prevent them !:thumbsup2

(Unless the Doctor is prescribing Retin A for Acne just to get it approved?)

And I must agree, my skin is also virtually wrinkle free! :thumbsup2

(But I will never say I look 10 years younger! :lmao: but ya'll can!:rotfl2:)

My skin has more break outs than when I was a teenager!

Recently I have noticed my pores looking larger. What to do to shrink? Any budget ideas because although a $20 solution is better than a $100 solution - but only if you have an extra $20. What is your home remedy?

But can't I have at least one! Since I was 19 everyone thought I was in my late 20's early 30's. I was happy to turn 30, at least it wasn't at insult when people guessed I was 30. I actually receive laughter when people comment that my sister & I must be siblings. They think I'm her mother!:scared1: It doesn't help when I say "yes, we are sisters" and she responds, "Don't lie mom".
BTW I'm overweight, Asian, and I have acne & wrinkles. Can't win!

I began using A&D ointment.

I'm 49 a bit overweight and had no wrinkles until last year, which I believe was due to stress, taking care of elderly parents and brother with advanced cancer, kids, moving in to help parents, etc.

My SIL always used A & D for many things, chap lips for kids, thigh chafing for kids, etc. We were with them on vacation with their family this summer and used it for cuts and bug bites. It was amazing.
I was so dismayed recently because the wrinkles came on so much. I started using A&D at night around eyes, lips, between browse, it really makes a difference with smoothing out skin.

My Grandmother just passed away last week at 92 years old. The beautician who prepared her for the viewing said they never saw a 92 y.o. without wrinkles until they saw my Gram.

Every night for the past 50 years at least....she used vaseline on her face at night before bed. She would also use prep h under her eyes if they were puffy.

Obagi~Obagi~Obagi!!

A little pricey, but it's the best! The Elastiderm eye gel is wonderful! Sometimes you can find a great deal on eBay!

I heard it mentioned years ago that Prep H worked for under-eye-puffiness. Then recently on the Today Show they said that beauty fix is a myth. Prep H used to contain an ingredient (but no longer does) that would also help w/under-eye-puffiness. So guess that one is out the window!

PS - sorry about your grandma. Sounds like she was beautiful!

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I think I'll try this for wrinkles!!!!! and also....LOLOLOL to a PP who mentioned that 'all women feel they look younger than they actually do'.....:rotfl2: I'd like to think that too,but in spite of the fact that at 43,I have just one light eyebrow thingywrinkle starting up (yuck) I do look like a woman of approx . my age...I wouldn't want to be anything else!
now....that said,I am reading this thread for ideas,as I want to prevent wrinkles too....:thumbsup2
I currently use a combo of Oil of Olay 7 vitamin cream, plus a hydroxy acid wash a couple times a week, plus plenty of sunscreen....I got sucked into the Clinique serum,it advertised "100% proven results':sad2::rolleyes:
I'm a sucker, sure.......

I always heard Prep H work too, and was going to try it this week for my eyes! Between allergies and recently turning 40, I wake up much puffier than I used to.

What was the ingredient that supposedlt worked, and are you sure it was removed? Maybe we can find it in something else!? Any *testimonials* here if it really works?

Believe I have tried them all!!! I am amazed at how Oil of Olay Reginerest products beat out many ENORMOUSLY priced products. So I tried them and Yes they do great and for the money it is even better.

Olive oil or almond oil. Olive oil is cheaper. Works great, does not burn sensitive skin. If you already have fine wrinkles, Retin-A will help decrease them. Follow up with olive oil (wipe off any excess). Retin-A at night, olive oil in the morning.
