EBTA 2014...Across the Atlantic we go!!!

I would be really interested in a chat group for the kids. I know my DS would feel better if he had got to know some kids before we go. I will be keeping my eye on this thread and hoping someone more technically minded than myself sets this up :)

Happy New Year to you all and not long to go now :cool1:

Hi yeah Happy New Year all

I work in IT as a consultant so could help .. you could use something like yahoo groups its enclosed, private, has all the common functions but you can lock it off so only kids and parents could get to it. or you could use the DIS ... the good thing about that is I know CMs read these posts from both Disneyworld and the cruise line .. you maybe able to get a kids CM to talk to the kids there is one I saw doing that the other day she was answering questions. What you want is so its membership enclosed for the kids and parents can keep an eye on it and its safe (my sister is a child protection officer for the police so I could have a natter for her). I could show you how to set something up like that easily enough ... it should be a parent who manages that but I could help and support them. I think the DIS threads can be made private that's what you need when setting something up for kids so you know who they are talking to.

by the way I have been doing some research on the cruise... hay :surfweb: I am a planner anyway been writing myself some guides such as using shutters ... which if any one is interested I can post up here and probably will start doing so next week or so ... I have a ton of info and links

I am really excited about the cruise myself .. just come back from disney world spent two weeks there had an amazing time (I need the downtime and rest time my job is stressful) but when I did the west bound Transatlantic in 2010 it really was Disney service + with some amazing experiences I had Donald really upset with me cause daisy kept blowing kisses at me it was soo funny :lmao: the great thing about the cruise is they get to know you so the characters especially go into character with you. Me I am a real character kind of person love it they are such fun ... for those not done a Disney cruise the shows are great and the fire works are amazing .. pirates night is great and a great chance for even adults to dress up

All computer people must think the same way! My husband also mentioned yahoo groups when I mentioned on here getting something together. I was waiting to see if there was any interest and now that there is some, I will have hubby set up the yahoo group. Please PM me your email address you would like to use for the group. Once it is set-up, we will send out the invites.

Hi yeah we must :rotfl:

Yahoo is/can me made secure so the kids can be safely talking in a safe area while parents can watch what is going on the moderator can be the parents of the kids. We maybe able to get a kids cast member to join in now and then? its always possible. The other one is face book but I really am not a big fan of that .. it links to many people in with little control who they are .. and is not secure ... not to mention they claim copyright over everything on there

Happy to help it would need to be invite only group so its secure... me don't have kids .. have a nephew and niece who benefit from a cool fun uncle that have lots of cash to spend on them... but never got around to getting married. So no point in me joining that group. However I am happy to help.

cheers
Jason

DCL website
http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/ships-activities/ships/services/photography/

There will be many opportunities for photos on the ship; one of the major costs when you get on the ship will be your photos. The cruise ships just like the parks have their own photographers.

So what’s the deal:
• They do not charge for a photo and you can have as many as you want queues/lines of other guests permitting.
• The photographers are cast members.
• They tend to be very good photographers.
• You can see your photos usually toward the end of the day every day (though some later photo sessions will be next day).
• There are touch screen booths in shutters photo studio on deck 4 to see all your pictures attached to your stateroom.
• Your photos are referenced by your room number and name so make sure you remember it, although they also use the magic to the key to the world card as well.
• You can also see your photos so far as they print them out (usually) the day after (if they were taken after 17:00) and put them out so you can look at them complete with borders.
• You do not have to buy any photo.
• The photographers will use your camera as well or any CM will take photos of you don’t be shy and ask.

Shutters Packages how much does it cost ?

There is a whole range of packages and products but the two main ones are prints and a CD package on the transatlantic cruise you are likely to have 100s of photos.

If you only want one photo – well you’re looking at (prices are subject to change):
Prints
6x8 photos are $9.95 each.
8x10 photos are $19.95 each.
You can have a package of a number of photos which cost depends on the size of the photo

6x8 Photo Packages
10 photos - $84.95 ($15 saving)
15 photos - $119.95 ($30 saving)
20 photos - $149.95 ($50 saving)
30 photos - $219.95 ($80 saving)

8x10 Photo Packages
5 photos - $84.95 ($15 saving)
10 photos - $149.95 ($50 saving)
15 photos - $219.95 ($80 saving)
20 photos - $289.95 ($110 saving)

You can have a mixed photo print package

Mixed Photo Packages
A - $169.95
Any 5 - 6x8 photos & Any 8 - 8x10 photos

B - $239.95
Any 8 - 6x8 photos & Any 12 - 8x10 photos

C - $299.95
Any 12 - 6x8 photos & Any 15 - 8x10 photos

All photo packages are refundable; this means you can decide to change your package at any time through the cruise. So you could decide you only want one photo so buy that take it to your room as long as you can bring it back in good condition you can get your money back or upgrade to another package .

WHEN I UPGRADED I RETURNED MY PRINTS PREVIOUSLY BOUGHT IN GOOD CONDITION AND UPGRADED TO THE CD IT WAS PERFECTLY FINE AND DON’T FEEL FUNNY ABOUT CHANGING YOUR PACKAGE.

When I did the Transatlantic cruise I originally took at mixed photo package “B” then I saw how many pictures I had I ended up buying the CD.

CD Prices
Just like the Disney parks you can get a Disney CD. They do not have the borders the prints have. However it’s very easy to put borders on and there are tons all over the internet.

The resolution is around 3216 x 2136 of the digital images (based on my own photos from DCL in 2010).

The online website is here
http://www.mycruisephotos.com/DCL/?utm_source=Photography&utm_medium=Disney&utm_campaign=Photography

Should be noted they are not Disney but an official partner. You can pre buy packages and after your cruise. Although I have never used it, I just bought the package on the cruise and they even linked my pre-boarding images to my account! .. it seems easier just to deal with someone at the shutters photo studios they are really helpful and friendly.

With the CD you can now purchase a CD that contains all photos taken on your cruise. The price is based on the length of cruise:

3-Night Cruise - $249.95
4-Night Cruise - $299.95
7-Night Cruise - $399.95

The likely hood is that our cruise it will cost over $399.95 for a photo CD. That is a substantial amount of money.

Is it worth it?
Well in the last Transatlantic West bound Cruise I had over 395 photos all of them were brilliant. I was really impressed and people that have seen them have said they looked like they had been done professionally and many are on my Itouch now or as desktops. So the answer is yes it’s worth the cost and how many times are you going to do this?

It also helps you can upgrade or downgrade your package if it no longer suits you. I also noticed that the photo cast members took much more photos of me when I upgrade to the photo CD to fill the disk up. So personally I will be buying the photo CD on my first day and enjoy filling it up with formal nights, character meet and greets etc.

If you’re not going to buy the prints and buy the CD then I suggest on the night before the end of the cruise have them download it for pickup of the disk on the same day (the lines will be mad busy on the last day- so start of the day) or for pickup on the day of disembarkation. You will not be able to have them burnt on the last day (disembarkation day). It should be noted that they are kept on file for 6weeks.

Hope you find that helpful.

Jason

The photo CDs now include the borders.

they do ... cannot find that any where .. good they listened I complained about that back in 2010 saying it was poor that they did not have their borders

well even more reason going for that photo CD

oh yes you can now
with $50 to add to the cost of the CD and get ALL the prints

also there is an option to buy only a few digital images apparently there is a programme that you download to unlock them

Signed up!

Just trying to work out how best to use it. I think I have just cracked it and managed to add an alias for him. :)

Thank you for setting up the group. :thumbsup2

Send it again. Can you put a message on it? If so, include your DIS name for their references. They may be out of town for holiday travel. I do not know. But only two people are able to approve members as I understand it and Christmas week has kept the page quiet.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was unable to join FB group too, so I cancelled my original request to join and submitted a new request. Could not find any way to add a message to the request to join the group. Is there a way to do so? I am going to wait to see if my second request works...

Of course, the moment I posted here, all FB group access issues were solved! Thanks all!

I am at the stage now where I need to look at car rentals.
I will be hiring one from the airport and plan to keep it for a few days to go see a few places. I will want to return it so I can relax by the beach for a couple of days before the cruise. We will be staying on Cocoa Beach for 6 night pre-cruise.

Any suggestions on the best places and deals? I know there quite a few deals to be had, I just need a little help on the best places to look for them.

Thanks

Wanted to post this here as well as Facebook because I know some are not on both.

For those interested in the We Love Malaga Gourmet Walking Tour. I’ve been in contact with Victor and they are very happy to offer the Gourmet Walking Tour as a private tour for our group. The price will be 35€ per adult and 20€ per child ages 4-14. Those under 4 are free. No prepayment necessary, we will each pay the day of the tour. He has reserved the date 5/29 and time of 10:30 am for us. I will need to contact him about a month before with our final numbers.

I will need the following information from those interested in joining this private group tour by April 1, 2014. I will close the group on that day.

1. A name (First and last name of one member of the party)
2. Party size
3. Number and ages of children

You can PM me on the Dis, FB message me or post the info as a comment under this post on FB. As we get closer to the cruise date I will request your cabin number so I can send a reminder on the ship.

I've searched the DCL website and I can't find which hotels DCL is using/recommending in Barcelona. Only found a reference to the hotel used by ABD. Could someone please point me to the right info? Thanks!

Found it. Two hotels are the Hilton Diagonal Mar and the Renaissance Barcelona Hotel.
