How long have you been going to Oshkosh? Do you know Doggie Kline, he used to fly a 170 taildragger then near the end flew a SE-5 he built at his strip in AZ. ? He used to love Oshkosh every year! I never got to go with him but o e day I'll make it! :)

I've been twice...once in 2003 and this year. Don't know Doggie Kline. I fly a 172 (nose wheel versus tail-wheel). It's definitely a blast. The aircraft are amazing and the people are living history. This year went to presentations by surviving Tuskeegee airmen, two of last five remaining pilots from Jimmy Doolittle's raid on Japan, the navigator of the Enola Gay. Even got to ride along in one of the warbird formations in the opening day airshow.

I meant... fiction. Ever have one of those days? All day long I've been typing emails and talking in chat and saying the wrong word to people. I swear if I had any other symptoms, I'd think I was having a stroke. :faint:
Maybe you're just too busy planning the "Girls Gone Disney" cruise! It's a good thing there's a break between that one and the PC cruise. It will give us PLENTY of time to recover! ;)

I'm bringing a book to read too. I love to read. Right I'm reading the second book of twilight.:cool2:

I bring my new ereader!
There are more than 3000 books on them!
Right now i'm reading a thriller but don't have a specific thing i like!

Pinkpug i read twilight (all 4 of them) twice now!
I love the books!!!

I read all three of the Hunger Games books. I really liked those. I see the DVD comes out soon, I may have to buy that DVD. Currently I am reading a free Panama Canal book on my IPad. I am also reading Land of Stories by Chris Colfer. I am also a fan of the Jack Reacher novels by author Lee Childs. (don't get me started on why they have picked Tom Cruise to play the six foot four hero, Jack Reacher.

I can see that I might need to bring something along. Not having a hundred things pending might mean that I'll have some time to read.

Linda

Done! I got involved in watching TV and suddenly it was midnight. Got my excursions and Palo so I'm good to go! Good night, fellow travelers. It's hours past this old lady's bedtime LOL!!!

THANK GOODNESS you mentioned booking things tonight. I'd totally forgotten about it after dinner and now have Palo brunch and dinner and Cartagena excursion booked. Whew! Don't know where my brain was tonight. :rolleyes1

ChipperMerlin, I'm also a mystery fan. My favorite authors are Michael Connelly, Elizabeth George, Laurie King, CJ Box, Tami Hoag, Sue Grafton, Kathy Reichs, Tess Gerritsen -- I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch. I was recently impressed by In the Woods by Tana French, and Sacrifice by SJ Bolton, so I'm going to hunt down their sequels. When I find a new author I like, I try to start with their first book and then read them all in order. Who do you like? My want-to-read list is long, but I'm always on the look out for new ideas.

Buckeyesix, you read some of my favorite authors, too. I've known Elizabeth George for almost 37 years, as her folks lived around the corner from us. I like Sue Grafton and Laurie King and, like you, try to start with a first book and read them in order. Have you read any of Deborah Crombie's books - set in London, they are excellent and not as gory as Ms George's books. I love all of Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache books. Carola Dunn has a great series about Daisy Dalrymple, and London in the 1920s. Also, try Hank Phillipi Ryan's new book - The Other Woman - coming out September 4th. I have an Advanced Reading Copy and stayed up really late finishing it. I've got a bunch of other authors that I like including authors who write humorous books: Joan Hess - both series; Rhys Bowen - both series; and Donna Andrews - her newest book is Some Like It Hawk. Sue Ann Jaffarian writes three series - all good, and she "murdered" me in Twice As Dead. Her latest book is Hide & Snoop and it just came out. She's a friend and we're having brunch with her on September 1st at Disneyland.

We should get together and discuss our faves. BTW, have you ever been to Bouchercon? If not, and you have a chance, go to one. I went to the 2010 one held in San Francisco and had a wonderful time. Met lots of authors, went to interesting panels, and generally had a great time.

I'm not participating in the ornament exchange (it would cut into my reading time too much :rotfl:), but if we are all finished with any of our books by then, I'll drop by the room with our extras.

And I should have said... anyone would be welcome to participate in the book thing, regardless if you're doing the Ornament Exchange. I don't even see it being a "leave one, take one" exchange thing.... just take them! :rotfl: They'd only be there if someone was done with them anyway.

Suggestion : One of you, Post your room number on the cruise website labeled BOOK EXCHANGE. Then hang a shopping bag on the rail outside your door. People can leave their completed books and select from what's there, if they wish. Any leftover books, your stateroom host can take to the crew library.

I used to read mysteries - read ALL the Del Shannon books, All the Agatha Christies, ALL Dorothy L. Sayers, ALL the Rex Stout Nero Wolf series (gotta love Nero - he likes to EAT) . . .

So many books, so little time! Can you tell you hit on one of my favorite topics? Both my undergraduate and graduate degrees are in literature, and I've worked in libraries, bookstores, and publishing. I also love children's literature, so reading to the kids, which we do a lot, is always fun!
Yup. I worked in a bookstore. I worked in a library. And I LOVE kids books - I have a whole series published from 1919 - 1945 about a young girl from tween years to married with child. What an amazing view of life in America for the upper middle class. And how could I have forgotten Frances Hodgson Burnett (Sara Crew, Little Lord Fauntlroy, the lost Prince, et al)

I was also in the no ebook camp as I enjoy the feel of a real book until I borrowed my mom's Kindle - now I'm so in love with my Kindle touch I don't think I can go back for pure reading. Pictures are still best in the printed books so my bookshelf will remain for art & travel books!

I'm a biography lover myself, anyone read a good one lately?

1. More Room in a Broken Heart: The True Adventures of Carly Simon
2. Making a Difference: Stories of Vision and Courage from America's Leaders - Chesley Sullenberger
3. 1. Dream New Dreams: Reimagining My Life After Loss by Jai Pausch (Her late husband, Randy, wrote The Last Lecture, which was also amazing)
4. What Do You Care What Other People Think? Further Adventures of a Curious Character by Richard P. Feynman
5. Seabiscuit by Laura Hillenbrand

Hello all,

I've updated the Roll Call on the web site consistent with Liz's last update on page 6 of the thread. Work's been crazy the last month plus I took off a week to feed my aviation bug up at Oshkosh, WI. Anyone that would like to add a photo to their Roll Call listing just email it to me. :)

I am with envy! My husband and I try to hit an aviation museum of some sort on every trip and would have really enjoyed the lectures you attended. We've been to The Mighty 8th, near Savannah; NAval Aviation Museum, Pensecola; Air & Space in Washington; Air Power Park, Hampton, VA; US Air Force Museum, Dayton, OH; Kitty Hawk; Walterboro Army Air Field, South Carolina; Military Aviation Museum, Virginia Beach; Museum of Aviation, Warner Robins, GA; Tuskeegee National Historic Site, Alabama. I'm sure there are others I've forgotten, but you can see we are kindred spirits.

With the cruise being in the PIF range now, do you think they will have any special fares to fill the ship? I have friends who are on the fence about joining us and they missed the IGT rates. My guess is that if they offered any kind of special pricing they would jump on it.

Any speculation? We would love to have them join us.

Linda- I would love the name/author of that series. Are they still in print? I love kids/teens books, I think because I skipped them as a kid and moved on to adult books young.
Have you heard of Enid Blyton? A British author from the 40s-60s (I think) You can only find her books in Europe, and I have most all of them. They are mystery stories set in England, with teen characters. My brother just came back from Turkey and brought me 4 books, so my entire family knows of that addiction.

Since we're cruise newbies, we are the last to book anything online. Is Palo usually completely sold out? Also, do they hold back a some bookings for after you board?

on a 14 night cruise, even if you do happen to get shut out on line, you will be able to get one on board. (Do I dare say here that I like brunch better than dinner? Now that my diet is so restricted, though, I need to avoid the temptations of brunch.)

Oh, Yeah! Good answer, good answer! :) What are your favorite brunch temptations/recommendations?

We like brunch better than dinner too. Of course we really like both and can't wait to eat there again! I haven't been able to get a brunch reservation for my Canada cruise yet, but I'm sure I can get one once I'm on board.

I like brunch better too! I only booked brunch because I want to have all my dinners wth my kids. I will probably book another brunch once on board.

My favorites from brunch are the grape/gorgonzola cheese pizza, the blue cheese/walnut bread, all the different cheese and crackers, marinated mushrooms and artichokes....the list could go on, my mouth is watering! I hope the Dream has all the same goodies when I have brunch on her in a few weeks from now!

If we can manage, we will do brunch twice - it's my favorite meal on the ship and I LOOOOOOVE being able to eat all the caviar I want. At brunch in May, that was all I ate, along with the toast points and egg. It keeps me from eating the sweets. Our waiter just kept bringing it, and I never went to check out the other food. :rotfl2:

My favorite Palo dinner item is rack of lamb. Yum! I am looking forward to both Palo brunch and dinner on the Pacific Coast cruise sailing on October 7th.
