Happy Birthday America. I am heading to the grocery store for about the 10th time to get things I think we need for this afternoon.
Jeff you mentioned lanyards as a way to identify other members of this forum. Where do we get those? Thanks for all the great posts I am learning alot about Disney cruising.:cool1:

Hi Everyone and Happy 4th!

Welcome to our new members!

It's a bit of a weird day for me....DH is taking vacation through the weekend to paint his hobby car (or project car, or whatever). I'm not sure of the terminology and don't know how to shorten "car that takes a lot of time and money but gives him great thrills to drive". So, he's here/home, but at the same time, he's not, and I am responsible for the kids. I'd love to get some errands done, like grocery shopping, but don't want to deal with the stores being like zoos today. It's really hot here which makes it tough to take the baby out, which then means my 3 year old boy is stuck inside and bouncing off the walls. In any case, we will watch some Disney movies today!

Manon - as far as rebooking, I would not do it unless it saves a ton of money. With your GTY, you have a much better shot at a good upgrade than with IGT. We did IGT and they say the best we will get is a 10. Two years ago we booked 11 GTY and ended up with a large porthole on Deck 2 (CAT 9 at the time, before they added the letters).

It does appear DCL is trying as hard as they can to fill our ship, but I doubt that will happen. As we have all found, it's hard to pull kids out of school at that time, it's hard to get 2 straight weeks off from work before the holidays, it's going to be rough to return home on the 23rd and then get ready for Christmas (for those who celebrate it), and there is no stop at Castaway Cay (a dealbreaker for some). Therefore, I am thinking the ship will not be full and there will be at least some upgrades.

Even though we are IGT, I'm hoping for some magic. We are also going to see what upgrades are available in port.

We are so excited to be going on this cruise December 9 . We haven't been on the Wonder in 6 years! We are from Florida, palm bay to be exact . We are a family of five

Happy fourth of July! Just put a picture of the castle on my phone decorated in red white blue!

We are an IGT also.. What does that mean and what are our chances for an upgrade? We are dvc members and just got off the Fantasy with a super room with a balcony. Saw someone wrote they would ask at the port for an upgrade. Do you just ask as you check in? Please advise!

Just put a picture of our wonderful husky shepherd we adopted in Texas named Bonnie Bluebonnet. We named our boat after her too.

IGT simply means you are guaranteed an inside stateroom on the ship. I would recommend that everyone reconcile themselves that they are getting exactly that and anything better is a wonderful bonus.

I say that because on a previous cruise in a similar situation, we had DIS posters here getting fabulous upgrades (Our party was upgraded to a Cat. 6 with verandah for example) while others got Cat. 11s. I remember one lady being so disappointed about not getting upgraded that she canceled the cruise altogether! Who knows what criteria Disney uses...we tried to figure it out, looking at how many previous Disney cruises families had taken, when people first booked the cruise, whether they were DVC members, etc., and we could find no rhyme or reason. I will say that the three DISers that all happened to be traveling alone that linked their dining reservation with my family also got Cat. 6 verandahs right next to ours so they did keep us together. :cool1: The way we look at it, we are tickled to death to be doing the cruise regardless of the room we end up in. Anything better than that is Disney magic. pixiedust:

We make them. I did that for a previous cruise. We've got one of those Hobby Lobby cold laminators that makes it easy. The lanyards and materials are inexpensive. Cost last time I did it was roughly $2 each. Here is the one we had on our Med. cruise. Seems like someone earlier volunteered to make them or help.

Our oldest son is a 5th year senior at SRU, a convenient commute from our house. Did you like our outlet mall?
My SIL/BIL live in SR; we were just in the area about a month ago. Went to the outlets specifically to eat at Primanti's and use a gift card I had for Wendell August (love their stuff!). Only been in Pitt once (a few yrs ago for a Jimmy Buffett concert), but really liked the city...lots to do.

Origianaly we would loved to book the IGT room, now we have booked an 11C GTY because there were no IGT's at that time.
Should we change to the IGT or stay put and hope for pixiedust on our GTY?
What are the chances of a free upgrade on this sailing???
I agree with others...you will have a much better chance of an upgrade with a regular GTY instead of the IGT. I originally planned to book a GTY, but they weren't available when we finally decided to take the IGT. I feel good about saving the $, but I'm certain we will be in an inside (no pixiedust: expected).

HAPPY 4TH to everyone celebrating!!!!! This is a great week for us every year . 33 yrs ago yesterday, DH and I met (blind date), and 32 yrs ago 7/9, we made it official (in St. Thomas while on our first cruise, the Carnival Festivale). That was before people were really doing destination weddings, so we thought we were really being different! Great memories :cloud9:.

Today will be a wonderful day doing absolutely nothing :woohoo:(exactly what we want). DH must watch the Coney Island hot dog eating contest, or his day will not be complete. We'll catch the fireworks on tv tonight, but it will feel good just to relax.

We are just sooo excited to be going. We aren't expecting an upgrade just let us on the ship!!! We are flying out two days early to stay in the grand Californian and go to Disneyland. We have year passes to WDW and love it

We really depend on the nametags to identify other Dissers, but found on our last cruise that the Disnames were too small! Somehow, staring at people's chests and squinting to identify them just seemed wrong :laughing::laughing:.

Happy 4th of July!!!

I am also on my way back to the grocery store to get things for a big family BBQ today. I am in Southern California and it is actually overcast outside right now!

If there is someone on the boards who is making lanyards can you please repost the information. I have read everything since the first post and don't remember anything about lanyards. Of course as a new Disney cruiser I will admit I was taking in so much information it made my head spin.:rotfl:
Thanks. Sherry

I don't remember seeing it either.

Those are very nice, Jeff! You have SO much energy and creativity:goodvibes

I'm thinking even though the lanyards are nice for identifying each other, except for new cruisers, they're redundant. Every castaway club member will get a lanyard on check in - only the new cruisers (who need them most) don't. I find them all very uncomfortable - and wish there was something equally convenient that wasn't so scratchy.

True, the lanyards are redundant to Castaway Club members but the name cards aren't. I wear a lanyard with my NASA badge in it all day, every day so I don't think twice about it. The badge holders have the clips on the back so the lanyard isn't required. They can be clipped on a shirt, hat, purse strap, whatever is convenient.

Nice! Love to have something like that for the PC Cruise. I don't have a creative bone in my body so I'll have to see if someone else is going to make them.

Hosted by schepp: Look at the "Meets" tab on the web site and if you already have a room assignment and want to be a stateroom host, just post here. A lesson learned from previous cruises that have done this it NOT to plan for everyone to go at once. :)

What I have found to work well is to break the group up into smaller groups of 8-10 people with all the stateroom hosts in the first group. The hosts in the first group stay in their stateroom when they get there on the tour until all other groups go through and then rejoin the last group, which allows the hosts to see all the rooms too. My experience is that these are best done early in the cruise before the rooms get too "lived in". ;)

For those that are unfamiliar with the Disney Wonder or the different Disney staterooms, it's a great opportunity to see them firsthand. For those that have seen them all, it's a good opportunity to meet up with fellow DISers and get to know one another.

Yes, we are fine with whatever inside room we get. It was nice to save some money and feel like we have a bit more to spend on things like adult beverages, spa, souvenirs and the like. I also agree that there is no rhyme or reason to upgrades. I honestly wonder if they randomly generate a list of passengers/parties and then look at what that party currently has and see if they can arrange an upgrade or not. I doubt they put too much work into figuring out how often you sail, when the last time you sailed was, are you DVC or CC or which level, etc. That could be a lot of work.

So, to the person who asked about in-port upgrade. I have been researching it here on DIS and here is what I know:

1) You can't count on it, because if the ship is full or there are no nicer rooms available, there will be a sign saying there are no upgrades on the cruise.
2) You want to get to the port as soon as you can to check in, then get in the upgrade line.
3) If upgrades are happening, then each time someone moves up, it frees up the cabin they had for someone else to upgrade to.
4) The price REALLY varies, and no one should count on anything, but IN GENERAL, the cost is 1/3 to 1/2 of the price difference between the cabin you booked and the cabin you want.
5) Also, the price is the same regardless of your family size, so it is an even better savings for those with more than two adults in the room.
6) If you booked a GT category (I, O or V), the base price is the lowest room you COULD have been assigned to and not the one you were actually assigned to. (Though this is the most confusing part and there seems to be some disagreement on the DIS about this.)
7) Basically, you get in line and the CM shows you a chart with what it would cost you to upgrade to categories above what you have and you decide if it's worth it to you or not.

My feeling is that it never hurts to ask and see what the price is. Some people have upgraded to the really nice suites. For us, personally, of course I would love something nicer than a 10 or 11, but we just want to go on this cruise. We paid what we feel we can afford and were thankful for the IGT.

Right now, the economy still isn't great, we have en election coming up and that always affects things, and DH's company may ask everyone to take a week off without pay. So, we'll just sit tight with our IGT.

But, by sailing time, things may have improved all around and we may feel we have the funds to splurge on an upgrade, if one is available. And if not, there are plenty of other ways to spend money on the cruise! :)

Hi everyone! I've been lurking here for a week or so, reading all of your posts while DH and I work through our decision about whether to book this cruise. I think we are about ready to commit. You sound like a happy, bubbly group. I'll tell you more about my family in another post (gotta rack up the posts so that I can sign up for the FE!), but I'll mention that we are an adoptive family (one child from Vietnam and three from Guatemala) and homeschoolers, so it sounds like we have a lot in common with some of you!

:welcome: Here's hoping you pull the trigger and book the cruise! :thumbsup2
We are also an adoptive family (I attended my daughter's birth), and we homeschool! :) How old are your children?
