EBPC December 9, 2012!!! PART 2

Here's today's DCL post on Facebook:

"Today, Captain Mickey Mouse officially kicked off the countdown for the arrival of the Disney Wonder to Port Miami with a Disney-style unveiling of a larger than life banner proclaiming "See You Real Soon." “Like” this post if you want to set sail December 23rd from Miami on a holiday Disney cruise with your family!"

Is it just me, or does that look photoshopped (DCL dropped in the Mickey boat). I don't think a wake like that would be allowed in the harbor...

Okay, my bad, there was a video of this. Most harbors don't let you do a wake like that, but it's probably where boats are docked.

Love your list! I will be doing laundry on the ship, too. Don't be surprised to see me in the same outfit more than once. My wardrobe is severely limited at the moment, and so there will be no formal clothes. I also won't be bringing a swimsuit - as mine has holes in the knees.:rotfl2:
Oh, that made me laugh! I'm debating the swimsuit thing, since we're not going to CC (one of the few places I'll go in the ocean :worried:) Don't worry, many of us will be wearing the same outfits over and over. One thing I love about the DCL ships is having laundry facilities; it would be tough for us to do 2 wks onboard without them.

This will be our first 2 week cruise. We chose it because the one week cruises seemed a bit too short. Just when you've gotten your sea legs and just entered vacation mode, it's over. Hopefully, at the end of the 2nd week, I will be ready to go home.

Then again, maybe not.
NOT! :cool1:

We feel the same way, which is why we don't book anything less than 7 days. I just can't imagine us doing those 3 or 4 day cruises.
Ditto...and now that we've been spoiled with the 14-day'ers, even 7 feels like "settling" :goodvibes

Wow! Everybody has been burning up the board today with all these posts! It is so fun to see everyone getting excited.

I mailed my FE gifts to the ship today. Traveling with two kids, I wasn't sure I could manage the extra luggage space. I am not sure I feel completely confident they will arrive.... I called DCL to get the shipping address, but when my coworker (UPS goddess) call Metro Cruise to verify, they gave her a different address. Hopefully they will be there and I won't have to leave everyone a "I'm so sorry" note.

Anybody have experience shipping to DCL in San Pedro?

Laura, sorry I have not shipped to LA, so can't answer your question. I have another question for anyone who might be able to answer. It looks like at Port Canaveral they are no longer allowing the rolling coolers on board (read this awhile ago on the cruise thread)...are they allowing us to bring them out of LA? This is very important in how we pack our necessities!

Wow... ok.... so surprising news that might effect some of you.

I just called DCL to see if it was possible to do the onboard airline check-in with luggage transfers in Miami without actually using DCL transportation. My flight isn't until 7pm and I didn't want to go directly to the airport. The representative said it was a good question and she'd ask a supervisor.

When she came back, she said she'd actually talked to a couple of people and, due to the nature of the cruise beginning and ending in two different US ports, they wouldn't be offering online airline check-in on the ship at all for leaving Miami.

She said luggage transfers were still included with the DCL transportation option but you'll apparently still have to collect all your own luggage and take it to your airline with you to check-in.

I will be sewing all day and will PM everyone tonight...
Jeff....LOL...sorry you havent been on any of our cruises in the past! I love sewing them and have given some away on every cruise we've been on. That being said..so not a pro here. LOL

The only thing I ask is that you not sell them, but feel free to pass them on someday to another family.;)

You are really generous!!

Does anyone know if we will have a lobster night on this cruise? I think I had one on the 7 night, but on our 11 night Christmas cruise we did NOT have one - maybe because of the specialty Christmas Eve and day dinners.

We went out of San Pedro last month. Having heard about the rolling cooler saga, we packed our adult beverages in a regular roll on suitcase. That said, I did see someone with a rolling cooler. DH pointed out that it had a DCL luggage tag on it so they didn't stop him from checking it in with his checked luggage and I don't know what was inside of it. :confused3 That said, I would not take the chance of having to repack the beverages at the security scanner.

Linda

Thanks for the info, Linda...DH really wants to take a rolling cooler b/c he says the insulated Costco tote bag would be too heavy:rotfl2: What we might do is bring the rolling cooler and if we can't bring it on board, we will get rid of it. It is an old one that we can do without, so no big deal if it is confiscated:)

WOW! When I asked that question a few weeks ago, I was told that we would be able to have the online luggage check-in. I guess I don't understand why it makes a difference where we sailed from originally.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if we were told something else on board, as it seems that people tend to get different answers from different CMs on different days. However, I just wanted people to know that there's a possibility that there won't be on board check-in so they can have a Plan B. :(

Are there duty free liquor stores in Cabo and PV near the port? There was a really great one in Cozumel right at the end of the pier. It will really cut down on the bottles I have to carry on the ship in LA. Sherry

I want to know as well. we were going to get some, but won't have a car now. Any walking distance places near Disney Land? I thought about getting a box of wine, classy. And a bottle or rum to add to cokes. We aren't huge drinkers. I usually add my one to Diet Rite White Grape, but Sprite may have to work.

I have not been here personally but this store is very close to DL. Susan and I are wine drinkers. Apparently there are a number of 7/11 type stores around as well.

I don't know for sure, but since we don't have a specific check-in time, we will be there at 10:30. Some mixup has us as pre-cruise passengers. So no specific check-in time is given.

Thanks for the response mug318ca. We've never upgraded at port before, so I wasn't sure just how early to be there.

The two gallons of milk I purchased today have expiration dates of 12-10-12. THAT'S how you know it's close - when you cruise PRIOR to a fresh dairy product expiration date. :cool1:

This is freaky - I thought the EXACT same thing yesterday. I grabbed some milk from the store and noticed it expired after we fly out next week - makes it all feel very real!

I have one extremely happy 11 yr old at the moment, as I just managed to secure 4 tickets to a One Direction concert that sold out in minutes. Don't know how I managed to score some tickets, but with this kind of luck I'm thinking I should go out and buy myself a lottery ticket!:yay:

Well, I finally have gotten around to packing. Guess I should as we fly out tomorrow. Started at around 2 am and am taking a break to go and make a cup of tea. Just thought I would check in and see who else is up....:surfweb:

GOOD Morning, Happy Cruisers!

There's an ABC Store near the corner of Harbor and Katella, about a 10 minute walk from the Disney hotels and virtually next door to Candy Cane Inn. They not only have alcohol, but also snacks and souvenirs for much less expensive than on property.

Happy Day, all!

How odd. Just clicked on this one, which had been sold out, and now it is showing availability. What's really odd is that it gives me the option to two times: 9:15 am or 10:45 am. Our itinerary, at least the last time I checked, had us going ashore at 10:30 am. How do we make a 9:15 am excursion unless they're planning on arriving early.

Interesting. Will have to go check. I would love it if they extended our port time, so we have time to do more than just the Canopy Adventure. Previously, the excursion was listed as 15min prior to port time, which I thought was weird.

Edit: Yep, our excursion is now at 9:15, when previously it was 10:15. I always wondered why our port time was so short when we don't have far to go overnight from Cabo.

Thanks for the tip Jeff. We were really wanting this excursion but it has been sold out for as long as I've been checking. :cool1:

I wouldn't be doing half as many fun things on this cruise without you guys! Thanks!

BF and I will definitely not be joining you guys. :( Flying back to England is not what we wanted to do but it has to be done. I am so upset - we had no insurance so it's just a huge loss money wise too. Ugh. Today we will be calling DCL and definitely cancelling.
