EBPC December 9, 2012!!! PART 2

Everyone who has requested a log and certifcate, they have been printed. I will bring the logs to the first day meet and the certificates at the last day. Glad everyone liked them, please Thank Mel from the creative boards on designing them, she rocks! And I am happy to spare my time for you guys. Though having 2 computers with four monitors at work helps!

I still have 24 more FE's to complete, I won't be able to do them till Thursday night so it looks like no sleep for me that night, I am normally not so last minute...

Last night I heard cursing coming from the bathroom, DH was trying to remember how to tie bow ties. He ALWAYS forgets how to tie them! He needs to wear a tux more so he stops forgetting. He finally got it after a half hour but we will be packing a back-up pre-tied one just incase....

And finally, I forgot my rings this morning in my mad rush out of the house (It doesn't help that the boss interrupted my morning routine) so I won't have them thill Thursday night so for the rest of the week, I am going to "panic" everytime I look and they aren't there until I remember I forgot them...

I'm sorry you had to go to so much trouble! thank you so much!

I actually had to go thru the trash this weekend myself. the girls had an essay to do this weekend and Angela couldn't find her papers. After I dug into the trash can she decided she left it at school! Ugh!!

No trouble at all, and remember, I have been working at a landfill!

That dreaded LICE word. I've got 4 girls and I would be very proactive on this. Go to a drugstore and get a good lice comb such as a Nit Free Terminator Lice Comb, whether you think they have lice or not. Also have a magnifying glass handy. Start using the comb now. Comb the kids hair with the specialty comb and inspect the comb to see what it has picked up. I've found that this is easiest after they have showered and used hair conditioner. If all looks good..great! If you find a lice, I would contact your pharmacist or even your pediatrician to find out what is working on lice these days. I've heard that in the past few years the little buggers have become immune to some treatments. But combing daily, several times a day, can be very effective. Use this comb daily until you are absolutely sure that there are positively no lice. Lice is easily transferred from child to child and from child to adult. Bedding also has to be changed daily as the gestation time for head lice is 10 days. An adult can live for up to 30 days. If bedding and other items are not properly treated, eggs can hatch and reinfestation occurs. The last time my dd got lice (I checked after the dreaded school notice) I used the comb on her hair at least 2 times a day for about a week. Don't forget to remind the kids to not share hats, coats, hair brushes, etc. If you do find out on board that something has happened, just look me up. This doesn't freak me out at all and I'd be glad to help you with the combing if you would like :)

Linda D

All great advice, I am quite experianced in the lice department. It comes from working at a camp for eight years! Towards the end of those 8 years, I was in charge of checking every incoming camper for lice. When I first started working at camp, one camper slipped by with lice and by the end of the week, all 200 campers plus 40 staff had lice. The camp had to be closed for a week to disinfect. I did a lot of combing and washing that week.

Tips: If you have a black light, use it to search for the eggs, they will "glow", also, lice like to lay their eggs behind the ears and along the neck line, so check those areas first and well. I would bring things just incase. It will be a pain on the ship as all clothes, bedding etc need to be washed daily in HOT boiling water or keep in freezing temperature or in sealed bags for a few days. And I second Linda, I would be more than willing to help out. After you inspected close to 5,000 heads in your life and have shampooed and combed close to 200, you become immune and quite good at it! Let me know if you need any more info.
GOOD Morning, Happy Cruisers!

I pulled an Emily yesterday - Up at 5, breakfast for DH to go skiing, gym, 2 grocery stops, 2 loads of laundry, baked cookies, tidied up house, had neighbors to tea, backed two suitcases, unpacked one and repacked into a larger one, made dinner, talked on the phone (something I rarely do- thank heavens for speaker!), made another ornament, and collapsed into bed at 9 pm. The old lady can't hang.:sad2:

Your day was far busier than mine! I never left the house or my PJs but did finish 100 FE gifts

Finally done packing! That includes unpacking and repacking a couple of times due to too many clothes! And like WVUrunner, I didn't make it out of my PJ's either. Cold rainy day here yesterday, so put on the Xmas tree lights, warm fire burning in the fireplace, and made it an enjoyable, well as enjoyable as it could get! Can I check in a case of water at the port? I can't remember if I already asked this. I've read on the other boards, people slap a room tag on it, and check it. And we've had friends do this at the Port of LA, Pier 93, just another cruise line. The only thing I have left to do, is make a few more magnets, 'cause you can never have too many...

Love PJ days!

So my environmental side is going to come out for a second and I am going to make a plea:

Can I suggest that instead of bringing bottled water, you bring a reusable water bottle? You would be saving money and the hassle while helping the environment all at the same time! The water on the ship is great and tastes amazing and you can fill up in the stateroom or the drink station. The water in the sink in your cabin is the same water in the dining rooms.

Oh, we plan to drink the water on the ship. This is our emergency supply of water. I know the chances of winning the lottery or being struck by lightning are probably greater, however, if we were to lose power, I have a basic essential. We also have a couple excursions, and our small children will drink from them when we're off the ship. I don't want them drinking water from there.

I meant use the reusable water bottle for the excursions instead of bottled water, we fill ours up and then head off ship for the day. But do whatever makes you feel comfortable and what you need to do with kids.

Emily, I don't know how you do it either. I work 10hr night shifts, only get 5hrs sleep and still don't feel like I have time in the 9 remaining hours to get much done.

We will be bringing a few bottled waters also, but not a case as I have heard such great things about ship water. I also just want something to take off the ship for excursions. My DH got very sick after our 1997 cruise, never diagnosed but we think Hepatitis A. I remembered later that we had purchased bottled waters from the market on one of the islands, and I didn't remember having to break the seal. I can see that would be a great money maker for a local, refilling water bottles with tap water and selling it to tourists. I don't want to risk anything like that again, even though now we are all Hep A vaccinated.
Then when the bottle is empty, recycle it onshore and one less thing to carry around all day.

I'm finally getting around to arranging our Miami transportation. Our flight does not leave FLL until 6:40pm and I really do not want to be hanging around the airport all day. We are thinking about renting a car for the day but what to do with the day? Or do you you think it would be best to just enjoy a leisurely breakfast and be one of the last off the ship then take a shuttle or van to the airport?

We always do this. I think bottled water tastes funny...no, actually I think it doesn't have a taste at all! I grew up in Jersey City. The water there DEFINITELY had a taste LOL!!! We never used bottled water, mainly for the environmental issues, but also because tap water (especially on the ship) is just fine, and a whole lot cheaper!

Keep your dds hair up and wash and condition hair & clorhes daily. Tell them to be cautious of putting their bookbags on the ground or near other kids stuff (are the big enough to have lockers?) No hair brushing at school or letting other kids play with their hair (if the girls braid each others still). The ship has treatment but you'll be quarantined - not a fun way to spend vacation!!

I have a lice story. Years ago my daughter went on a field trip where they spent time together in cabins of some type and she picked up lice. It was my misfortune that DW Susan was on a business trip so I had to deal with them. I was washing my daughter's hair in the kitchen sink wasn't sure about something so I tried calling my mother-in-law, whose area code is 910. So I start dialing 1 + area code - 1, 9, 1...except I accidentally dialed 9-1-1. I hear the operator come on and ask what my emergency was and I hang up. Bah! Stupid lice-stupid phone-stupid me. I went back to washing but in a few minutes the doorbell rang. It was the POLICE! They told me 9-1-1 had been called from our residence and then the call was terminated. I told them it was an accident and everything was fine. They didn't believe me! My hands were wet and my shirt was wet...I think they thought I was drowning someone! They insisted on coming in the house and checking things out. I showed them that my dear daughter was still alive...no worse for wear except for the pain of combing through her long hair with that fine tooth comb. :)

Oh, Jeff, that is priceless! I bet those cops still tell that story. "So this guy was soaking wet.....":lmao:

Sorry, been lurking this thread for a while and will be on the cruise. Signed up when I saw the running certificates and log. Think thats a great idea. Any way me and my wife can get in on this? Would like a 50 mile certificate and 26 mile certificate.

It is cuz I'm kidless. My sister keeps telling me that once I have kids, everything with my time management skills will go out the window and that the kids will just suck away all my time. Hopefully I will find out one day if this is true....

I have a lice story.

Oh Boy! I bet the cops were confused. All this talk about lice has my head itching. So Jeff, you might enjoy this one, one of the time I had lice (yes, I've had it quite a few times, so cruel when you have long curly hair!) was in Huntsville while attending space camp. They do not check for it and you share all those helmets, which they did not spray after each use. My mom was not happy, she was joking that GS camp is 1/10th the cost of space camp and they take precauctions. I just like to think I made a few more friends that week who wanted to come home with me!

Ugh, I can't imagine spending that much time in the airport. You may be able to get a rental for around $50 if that is worth it to you.

Welcome, glad we found something that interested you enough to post! I will try and print one of each today, if I can't you can have DH's Ultra and my marathon and I can print ours when we get back. I was smart enough to print extra logs as those don't waste as much ink.

Works for us, I am assuming you meant Deck 4?

Mel (Bababear 50)from the creative disigns came up with these designs for us. Please let me know what certificate you are going to try to achieve because I will print them out them tomorrow morning (they only time I will be able to print)

I also came up with this running log, I will pass the out for everyone the first morning. Let me know how many logs everyone wants so I know how many to print and bring.

These are amazing!!! Thanks Emily. If it's not too late, we'd love three full marathons. My crew took one look at the Mickey certificate and immediately announced that they can do six laps a day, no problem.

I have to tell you all that the idea came to me when I realized that my sons will need to burn off some serious (and seemingly endless) energy with all of the sea days. They are soooo happy to see all of your responses. Thank you one and all. We can't wait!

And, yes, I did mean Deck 4. But, at 7:30 in the morning, it's likely I may end up on Deck 3 anyway.

My flight back to England is today. I suspect I will have zero time to do anything once I get there so I will wish everyone a happy cruise now. :)

I am so sorry that you are missing this cruise. I know you will soon be on another one after you have helped your mother recoup. Godspeed and safe travels for us all!
