I live in southern Ca and my mom lives in Las Vegas so if you have any questions regarding your future visit just ask.
Me and my husband were thinking of doing a cruise that goes to Scotland.Ireland.England and France.Whats you opinon? Hows the weather in Aug?

Aug is usually nice in England, def France, usually ok in Scotland and Ireland, but it can be wet but it can also be really glorious!
Trouble as always with cruising is that it depends where you want to go, Edinburgh is pretty cool, like no other city Ive been to. Dublin, ok,wouldnt go back, now the west coast of Ireland is really lovely and rugged. The west coast of Scotland also, Devon and Cornwall is England is lovely, personaly I think England in the middle is flat and boring with the exception of the Yorkshire Dales. Have you seen a specific cruise? Also we get good, cheapy flights here in the uk, If you wanted to get about that way, I can link the websites if anybody is interested.I work a week/off a week so with the cheap flights midweek, and Len seems to have endless hols we are always away!

London is cool, but I could only stand it for a few days, way too busy for me.
I have been all over the UK, here is a picture of my favourite ,most gorgous place, the Kyles of Bute. If you are going to do aything make sure it is the west cost of Scotland!

just had to stick my .02 cents in on the HWY 1 travels. We really enjoyed stopping in at Hearst Castle this last summer. We have driven by many times, I'm so glad we made the effort. The prices to visit seemed really high to me but it was well worth the money for the visit.

We live in San Jose, but had a beach house in Half Moon Bay (30 miles and 30 minutes south of SF) from 2001-2003, it is a wonderful little town to visit also
Thanks, all suggestions welcome, my boss has just come back and said it was amazing, I did think it was pretty expensive but he said it was worth it.
So many places so little time.
Did I tell you all I have tickets to see Barry at the Las Vegas Hilton:hippie:
We thought abot staying at the hotel as well?? Anybody stayed there?

We haven't stayed at the Hilton, but we visited it while we were in Vegas. We found in kind of "off the beaten path" since it's not on the strip, but a nice hotel. My preference is to be on the strip, but if you want something that isn't, it's a good choice.

orlando, where in Scotland do you live? I lived in Edinburgh for three years for school. I mean college. I mean uni. Hehe. I'll never forget the first time I said "school" and the looks I got. Almost as good as the time I started talking about my "pants" (meaning my trousers, but no one knew that). It was on a very busy bus travelling down Princes Street.
Ah, the subtle differences between our countries....

I also lived in Portgordon (near Elgin) for about 6 months. THAT was an experience. Could barely understand a word anyone said to me there. :lmao:

Lol, We live near Kinross(10miles north of edinburgh) I work in edinbirgh.
Princess street is worse than ever, they are building a tram network and it is just crazy with all the road work! How long ago did you live here. Maybe you would be better saying what the weather is like in august from american point of view?
It is funny you mention Elgin, were you in the forces by any chance? Last night we were looking at route planners to Elgin as there is a half marathon from one raf base to another, it is a 5 hour drive so we are not doing it.
AS for the Lingo thing, I was on the thread for our western cruise, we were all saying what we had bought, I said I had bought a ridiculous pack of 3 iluminious pants just for fun. They said they couldnt be that bad and I said they were that my dh had never seen anything so bright in his whole life, they told me to post a picture, so I did, well, I never thought ,even going to america, having american friends staying, bla, bla, bla.
Lol, now it is really funny but how could I have been so daft?
Linda my dis friend said she sprayed her coffee all over the moniter.

I thought I was going to find a trip report, but I didnt, any you guys know links to trip reports?

I lived there from 1997-2000. Well, with a few months home here and there. I went to Queen Margaret! Cutest little college ever. It changed to a University in 1999, which was pretty neat. I lived in Corstorphine for 2 years, and then over near the Royal Botanic Gardens in an area I forgot the name of. LOVED it there. So close to the center of town. And the Jekyll and Hyde pub :rolleyes1

I wasn't in the service, but I had a boyfriend whose parents were from that area. For a few months before I returned to Florida I stayed with them. Don't miss the boyfriend at all (married a much nicer fella) but oh......waking up and looking out into the North Sea was pretty awesome every morning! I had to wait until it was time to come home to ditch him or I'd miss out on the view! :rotfl2:

Good times!

Ok....

... at the request of the off DIS web site webmaster : EDMARTIN... I have edited in a refererral to the new semi-private web site for our voyage on the 1st posting for this thread:

Here is a link to a private off site web site for this sailing ...

The webmaster (Edmartin) has generously volunteered to provide this for our community!
All Ed wants is a keg of Rum from each DIS cabin in return....

OK... I was just kidding about the KEG ... just slip Ed a 5th and we'll call it "even"....

that looks just like another web forum, not a website with info. What is the value of that over this? :confused3 I'm happy here on the DIS.

Night guys...I'm heading to bed. Have a good rest of the week if I don't get back on!

Well...

... folks please don't misunderstand Ed and I here. We were recently on the EB Panama Canal repo this past August and THAT DIS meet thread ran up 75,000+ postings and some 700,000 hits before the webmasters on the DIS began to break up our meet thread into smaller 2500 posting chapters. This served to SPEED UP the DIS when they broke up ALL of the long legacy threads [not just our little 75,000+ posting monster] and it made it near impossible to quote old stuff from retired chapters. Plus this made for greater difficulty in finding useful information that was less of a conversational nature. IE, the various activities, port references, roster info, and so forth were all consolidated OFF the DIS in one stable place while the numerous fluff postings stayed on the DIS. THAT community enjoied having the same sort of off DIS web space for convenient reference - and it was NOT intended to support the volume of conversation that the DIS meet thread generated.

This new off DIS web area is generally intended as a reference point - and as such is now at its' initial creation point. Naturally there is virtually nothing on it (so far)... but over time it will have consolidated a lot of useful info. This meet thread is likely to go through several chapters in the next couple of years and the old threads may become lost to most of us. Myself, I had about 6,000 of my 10,000 postings on those Panama Canal DIS meet thread chapters... and perhaps a dozen or two dozen postings on the off DIS reference area.

Nothing is being pushed on anyone with this new web space - generously created by ED. May I suggest we entertain an open minded and optimistic attitude in this matter? There is truly no cost or penalty to anyone in doing so? The off DIS site is NOT intended to compete against the DIS - only to support certain aspects of it for our specialized community here.

I'd like to tip my "virtual" hat in thanks (with polite applause) to Ed for creating/providing this FREE off DIS space for everyones' mutual benefit...

Cheers!

Yeah, I hear ya. I'm glad I was on the WB Repo. We had a nice pace on our DIS thread nothing like what happened on the EB Repo. With that experience I suspect this thread will be much more tame than the EB Repo. We haven't run at break neck speed so far

Help me out to understand the other site as to me it really looks like another Forum, rather than a website, with tabs and such. A website is very helpful indeed to retain info over the course of many months/year(s).

For that very reason we have a website already created, perhaps you have missed it. I think it is Craftymouse that is heading that up. To be included on it then you need to drop her a pm. (Help me if I got this mixed up, it might have been Tinkerbelle)...

Okay those are my thoughts, for whatever they are worth.

Hello all. I thought I'd pop in to say I'm still around and just quiet.

And I'm still planning a "Shots Around the Ship" event just like I did on the Panama Canal cruise. And then there's also the "Edwardian Tea" to be planned.

You're not off the hook yet...

I wasnt on the panama canal trip, was everybody else?

Any way, explain away! :thumbsup2

If people would rather go with the new website I understand. I'm not really sure why there was any need to create a second one, but it's fine. Just let me know if you'd like to switch and I'll take care of dismantling the Spanish Reposition one.

512 days to go!

Hey Crafty.
I dont think we are on any list, can you add us please.
Lynne 37 and DH Leonard Zabek 50:thumbsup2

Hi everyone!

We just booked this cruise. It will be me (Joann), DH, DD8, DD6, &DD3. We will be moving to a new job in Kampala, Uganda next summer, so I hope my new boss won't veto the vacation plans. But the girls' school has a two-week spring break, so I can add this two-week cruise and make decent use of our one-round-trip to and from the U.S.

I look forward to meeting everyone.

Joann

Hi There Joann!

Drop me a PM with your group's information (Names, ages (at time of sailing), hometown, cabin number and dinner seating...or any of those you feel comfortable sharing) and I'll add you to our website (www.freewebs.com/spanishinquisition/)

For anyone else who's recently booked this cruise, please PM me with your info as well so I can add you to the list!

I'm with you Nan-- if this thread sped up like the other one, I'd never keep up!

I'm not really interested in joining another forum thread, just because I'm so far behind as it is! There's so much going on with the pregnancy and the other kids and work and housekeeping!!!

Mmmm, I missed out on the shots last time because of the pregnancy, but I shouldn't be so encumbered on the next cruise!
