Trip dates: 10/06-10/13
Party size for most meals: 7 adults, two children (5,7), and an infant (5 mth).
Special Note: All of our waiters and waitresses, as well as the counter service people taking orders, were all very good to excellent in their service.
Pictures: Sorry, I have none. There were usually four cameras in play with my party, so bringing my own would have been superfluous. (I have to wait for everyone to burn me some CDs)
1900 Park Fare
Supercalifragilistic Breakfast
Excellent character interaction here, which helped the meal do down. They had an interesting 'blueberry sausage' that was tasty. The regular breakfast sausage links were good also. Also some nice flavorful carved up ham was available. There was some sort of poached egg with a lobster hollandaise sauce (hard to recall exactly what it was called) that I found disappointing...a weird citrus taste We pretty much shut down the place that morning, so the omelet station was wide open.
Tony's Town Square
Lunch
No bread with lunch! Just lap up any extra sauce you might have on your plate with your tongue.
Pasta Primavera was excellent, or so I was told, which really makes me upset because I was going to order it but inexplicably changed my mind and went with the Chicken Parmigiana over spaghetti....which was merely adequate. The baked ziti was also said to be tasty. The smoothies, a cookie and cream and some other pink thing, both got rave reviews from the side of the table that tasted them. The general consensus of the table was that the water tasted horrible, forcing those who asked for just water to order a coke and lemonade. I thought the water was tasteless...I was called crazy for not noticing how bad it was...
While waiting to enter the dining room I got the sense that we were not all that welcome to be dining there. It felt like anyone who worked or walked through the waiting area was miserable. Then we were short a chair at the table when we did get inside, and it was as if it was our fault they couldn't count to nine. It would have been a nice gesture if someone from Tony's had noticed that we left the collector's mugs the smoothies came in at the table as we left...and a party of nine plus an infant tends to move slowly...but alas...
Tutto Italia
Dinner
This place had a very friendly atmosphere from start to finish. Someday I will want to go back and try and take this restaurant seriously, because the night I ate there I was not at all hungry or in the mood for a sit down meal. Half our party went to eat there, while the other half had decided (or so I thought) to graze the F&W booths. But I foolishly took a few minutes to stop and listen to Sheena Easton while the others huddled, and next thing I know I was being dragged to Tutto.
I ordered the Lasagna al Forno, which I thought was good. I gave about half of it away to others at the table to taste and they all thought it was very good. The Bucattini and Tagliatelle both got high quality reviews from those I was dining with.
I think this place is a winner, I just was not mentally prepared for it that night.
'Ohana
As we all entered and located seats around the table, I looked up and realized that Cinderella's Castle was staring right back at me...can't beat that with skewer. Let the gorging begin!
Having previously tried a Lapu Lapu, I ordered a Malibu Macaw and liked it very much. When at 'Ohana I really do not care about the salad or fried wontons and sauces, but they are there if you want them. I tasted it all and liked it well enough, but they are mere distractions.
The honey coriander wings and sweet and sour shrimp were both properly cooked, which is always a plus. I enjoyed the taste of both, and I think the sweetness of these appetizers is a nice contrast to the meats that are to follow.
The Pork and Turkey I received were also well cooked this evening, stayed juicy, and had good flavors. Unfortunately the 'Hawaiian Pork-sausage with pineapple terriyaki glaze' was way too dry, and simply not something I wanted eat. I wish I could have used those few bites on something else. The 'star' of the meat party this evening was the steak. It was cooked rather rare, allowing the meaty flavor the opportunity to mix with, rather than be dominated by, the spices on the outside.
I should add that the scalloped potatoes and stir-fried vegetables were also very good, but again, I just didn't have enough room in my belly to eat very much of either.
I am not usually much of a dessert guy, but I was there to eat hardy, and the bread pudding dessert with Bananas Foster Sauce was quite tasty.
The kids in the party enjoyed the hula and limbo action, and visiting the Poly is always a pleasure. An all around pleasurable experience at 'Ohana.

Dinner
I was quite impressed with my meal here. I started things off with Mediterranean Sunrise, and it was an excellent drink. Then I doubled up on the kabobs: lamb for the appetizer and beef for diner.
The grilled lamb kebabs with chick pea salad and harissa was excellent. The lamb was properly cooked, and I made a couple people at the table happy by sharing with them. In return, I had he chance to sample the Hummus (impressive fresh taste) and the Four Cheese Flatbread (nice).
The Oak-fired Steak Kabobs with pilaf, balsamic onions and harissa, was very good. The steak was a pretty true 'medium rare', and in retrospect I should have have asked for a more 'rare medium', or rare. But it was quite tasty as it. Get the harissa on the side, and then have some steak by itself...some with the harissa...some with just the onions...some with both...lots of ways to play with flavors here. The rice was good also.
The Rigatoni with italian sausage here looked very good, and the consensus of the three folks at my table who ordered it was that is tasted good as well. The Snapper and Linguine were also in play at the table, but I did not get a report on it. (Although I did notice the five year old girl at our table eschewed her kids meal and was diving into her grandmother's linguine and seemed quite pleased with it.)
Nice, spacious, colorful, 'alive', restaurant atmosphere. The setting of the Sun can be a bit of a (serious) problem for some seats.
F&W Booths
New Zealand: Kiwi and Custard Roll = not "kiwiee" enough for my taste.
Spain: Papas con Chorizo = yum, nice and zesty
Canada: Chedder Cheese Soup = I liked it well enough, although a bit much on a hot sunny afternoon.
Ireland: Potato Pancake and Cheese Plate = pretty good, especially liked the apple chutney.
China: Chicken Sha Cha and Pork Pot Stickers = Pot Stickers were a quality item, the chicken did not have a lot of flavor and was bit fatty. (Also had a green tea mango slushie next to the booth which I liked a lot.)
South Africa: Durban Spiced Chicken and Bobotie with Mango Chutney = an interesting mix of flavors at work hereb that did not really appeal to me personally.
Turkey: Meze and Manti = eh...nothing struck my fancy here.
Itlay: Lasagne and Pizza = both were nice. That's a lotta ricotta. Nice chuncks of toppings on the pizza.
Poland: Cabbage Roll and Kielbasa and Pierogie: These were OK at best...but I'm used to home cooking in this genre.
Pinocchio Village Haus
The Grilled Turkey and Bacon Panini was fine, and the Italian subs looked and smelled good. I liked the Figaro Fries which were topped with lettuce, tomato, cheese, and bacon I think. They had a good taste, and seemed unique imo.
Toy Story Pizza Planet
Pizza and salads, what could go wrong? The potential of tripping up the stairs while carrying your food tray to the second level adds a nice degree of diffilcuty to the dining experience. Oh, and that place was noisy...really noisy. But the pizza and salads met expectations.
Boardwalk to Go
Kiosk
I thought the onion rings and fries were very good here. I had a corn dog for the first time in my life...I really didn't like it, but that was my problem not the kiosk's.
Boardwalk All Day Dining
In Room Dining
I had the Reuben with some french fries and they were good. A lot of meat on the sandwich. The ketchup was not Heinz and was too sauce like for my taste. Excellent service by the cast member on a very large in room dining order.
Finally, the Dole Whip and Mickey Bar both were top notch!
